RealGM.com loves the Knicks

I have to let you all know, I read RealGM.com.  I know that is pretty bad, but they provide nice concise rumors from newspapers around the country.  That and their editorials are pretty funny.  If you've ever read one, they can always see the sunny side (in fact they pretty much only see the sunny side), and their expert analysis is always the same.  So and so is a poor outside shooter, defender, rebounder, you pick a flaw and they will generalize it to one of 5 main catagories.

Yet I always have to go back for more.  I think it has to do with the fact that I love to hear what they say about the Knicks.  For instance this article tries to detail the good and the bad (and the ugly) of the franchise in its current state.  Mostly not worth the read because it is really long and doesn't point out any specifics to validate their arguments, but they do have one hilarious tidbit.  They state:

Quentin Richardson, Malik Rose, and Jerome James ought not still be in the NBA.

While it is true that Jerome James sucks, Q is still very serviceable even if he misses 11 of his 12 3-pointers per game.  He is a good rebounder, leader, post player (for a G/F), dresser, and has nice spinning rims (unfortunately that YouTube video has been removed).  Side note, he needs to do another video like that with the Knicks.

Anyways their latest article is just awful.  They describe how Marbury is still a very good player with a lot of talent and has the ability to win.  I do not disagree with these statements (except that last part).  They basically say that it is everyone but Marbury's fault that the Knicks are bad and even condemn Scott Layden who hasn't had anything to do with the franchise for like 5 years.

They even say that D'Antoni won't play him because of his reputation.  Does anyone with any semblance of basketball knowledge actually think that someone won't play just because a person might be what everyone says they are?  No, this is the reason teams have practice.  Coaches evaluate the talent they are given and make decisions based on how they play in practice.  Why then isn't Marbury starting and getting the minutes he deserves?

That is simple.  Its because with all his talent and skill, he can't put it together on the floor and get a W.  Everyone he comes in contact with believes that he can do it, and unfortunately for the GM's around the league that have traded for him, he can't.  He couldn't win with Garnett, the Nets, Amare and Marion and the Suns, and he can't do it with NY (although with that there are some extra circumstances).

I know I haven't covered it all with him, but generally speaking people need to realize that he isn't the go-to guy, or even the on-the-court leader that teams need.  I do think he can help, but he is in the exact role that he deserves unless he proves otherwise.

One last statement about that column is that they say NY has the worst fans (maybe just regarding the Knicks), which is completely untrue.  EVERYONE knows that that honor belongs to Philadelphia (the city that booed Santa Clause).  The fans will cheer for Marbury when he proves that he can win, but until then we will all chant "Fire Marbury!"
