Clyde has been the nemeses of the knicks organization for a long time.
No other announcer, including the co-announcers critiques the home team with such negativity as Clyde does. He's the first to point out the negative stats of the players, even when they are winning, and the first to criticize any unsuccessful plays. The game before last he said the knicks are getting cold, and we were down by I think it was 5 points. A few plays later, the knicks were on top again. He's always looking for fault. Compare his coverage to Gus Johnson, Day and night. Gus keeps you into the game. He's not a boo generator like Clyde. In fact that name fit's him perfect. BOO GENERATOR. I watched the coverage of the knick game on the network covered by the Celtic announcers and the difference was huge. These guys did not spend time looking for replays to showcase the away team. Nate made a wacky 3 pointer from way out there and Clyde barely acknowledged it. If that had been the away team, his fingers would have been working on the replay. All away teams should be fortunate to have Clyde cheering them on at the garden. I say we trade Clyde for Gus Johnson and the 70th draft pick, or just the 70th draft pick. He's the worst.
Don't take my word for it. Count every negative thing he says about the home team and compare it to every negative thing Gus or any other announcer covering the home team says, and see the disparity. HUGE!!!
Clyde, will have the fans booing in know time. especially the neophyte fans who do not know any better.
Watch when the knicks are not doing to well during a particular game. Listen to the keywords he'll use to make them look worst. He'll use words like hero's when describing the away fans feelings toward their team. He will say stuff like they have been the Knicks nemesis. Trying to make the fans feel worst about there team who's about to lose a particular game. He's perfect at setting the stage for a lose he feels is inevitable. The Boo Generator is the worst.

bite your tongue
that’s arguably the 2nd best player in franchise history you’re talking about.
with the way the Knicks have been the past four years, what is there to be positive about? i think the negative far outweights the positive. would you rather have a sugar-coating, Yes-man controlled by James Dolan to be Mr. Positive during Knicks’ games? if you want a candy cane and gumdrops broadcast, maybe the Knicks can lure the Yankees broadcast team from YES to do their games.

The Knicks are a bad team.
First of all, Clyde gets giddy and over-animated at the slightest sign of life, so I’m not really sure what you’re talking about. “David Lee with the resounding rebounding!”.
That said, I think there’s an unsavory trend of “color” announcers devolving into the “homer” announcers for a given team. For a playoff team, perhaps that excusable. The Knicks, though, have been awful for nearly a decade now. Clyde’s just calling it like he sees it. The fact that the man has maintained his usual gusto and penchant for the ridiculous is stunning after working with such turmoil on a nightly basis. If you find him corny or irritating, I guess I follow that, but accusing Clyde of not celebrating a perennially lottery-bound team doesn’t make sense to me.

Wow.
I don’t think I need to my thoughts on Clyde, but just in case:
I guess everyone’s entitled to an opinion, but just know that I couldn’t possibly disagree with you more wholeheartedly.

i don't approve of this
because you got the word “neophyte” from the man in question. so it negates your argument. clyde is critical, but not negative.
i would argue that mike breen is infinitely more negative than clyde, becuase he is constantly bringing up any minor altercation a player has had, even if it was ten years ago or more. he talks about people’s problems, that don’t really involve basketball – that shit is pretty low if you ask me.

Marv Albert
Wasn’t Marv "Bad-Ass" Albert fired for that same reason, not homer enough? ‘Twas a sad day.

HEY
I agree with the notion that if you have nothing good about one of the best players in franchise history, you need to keep his name out of your mouth.
I always thought Clyde was always TOO positive when it came to these terrible teams. Do you keep track of the shit Breen says? And if you’re so worried about boo agitators go read some of the beat writers blogs, they spew the shit you’re looking for.
You all did love him once. - The New York Knicks.

Sorry if
Clyde doesn’t give out Tommy Points to all the shit players on the knicks, like This Fool did for boston b4 Paul/Ray/KG Happened.

clyde
have met the man an absolute gentleman ( him saying shaking and baking in a conversation 2 me : life changing) besides that u can tell he really has a good feel on the game and can relate with things most other announcers cant. He’s not gonna talk up this team because he was a winner and he wouldnt go over board bigging up something mediocre
by antnyk on Oct 23, 2008 3:47 PM EDT 0 recs
really?
if I had one criticism of clyde, it would be that he’s almost too much of a homer.

hey guys, give "Police Clyde" a break, maybe he's right...
just kidding. he is 100% wrong.
every time clyde mentions “heroes” it goes something like this: “sooo, the garden now on their feet, cheering on their heroes.”
by SamH on Oct 23, 2008 5:21 PM EDT 0 recs
Couldn't disagree more
I remember when game were Clyde was praising Jamal Crawford as if he were a God on earth. The guy is awesome.
That being said, Gus Johnson is great too. I really wouldn’t mind if Gus just followed me all day commenting on stuff.

pause
i agree, i would like gus and clyde… i would also like kenny smith in the mix… less breen…
breen is better than mike crispino though and i will take anyone over the ian eagle’s and jim spanarkle’s of the world.

Don't be harsh on announcers that tell it like it is...
……………………….. It takes courage to do that, they’re company employees.

We'd take either Clyde, actually
Frazier is, and always has been, class. Someone above said he was arguably the second best player in franchise history. I would say he is perhaps the classiest player in NBA history. Maybe I’m biased by watching the way he destroyed my Blazers when I was growing up, and the way he handled himself.
Just ship him out to Portland if you don’t want him. He’d fit well with our team these days.
That is all.
The most amazing thing about my amazing ego is I have amazingly little about which to be egotistical.
The pick and roll this year will emphasize "roll" followed by "dunk", followed by the wailings and lamentations of your women.
