Game Thread: Knicks vs. Heat- 10-29-08

Seikalylw2_medium

And so it begins. The Knicks are at home tonight to tip off '08/'09 against the Miami Heat. Michael Beasley will be making his NBA debut for the Heat, while we all wonder whether Danilo Gallinari will make his for the Knicks. The biggest question, though, is whether Mike D'Antoni has anybody to stop Dwyane Wade version 2.0 (Guess: No.)

Either way, it's bound to be a season fraught with glee, heartache, surprise, and more of the same. The ride begins tonight. This game thread is for your game-related comments, whether you're watching along or not. The more comments the merrier. Get them W's!

That last sequence where Q worked to get a tip-in (even though he missed), drew a charge, then knocked down the open three must be why he’s starting. Too bad he won’t do that every game.

How can

a team with Shawn Marion, Dwyane Wade, Mario Chalmers, and Michael Beasley be expected to be as bad as the Heat are expected to be? (Not to mention Marcus “Ominpotent” Banks.)

it’ll be only the 3rd time since January 4, 2005 that the Knicks have been over .500?

they were 16-13 on December 29, 2004 before going 2-13 in January of ’05.
they were 2-1 after their win over Denver last season.
they were 1-0 after a triple OT opening night win over Memphis in 2006.

1-0 and a lot of promise.

that 4th quarter execution needs a look though.

by Seth on Oct 29, 2008 10:13 PM EDT up reply actions

Definitely

It felt like once the Heat started making their run, as will happen, the Knicks tightened up, didn’t keep the passing open, got more tentative. Could’ve been that they didn’t trust the earlier offense enough and resorted to old, “safer” habits as the run continued, thinking on some level that a 7-seconds-or-less offense means more points for Miami if NYK shooting ran cold.

I could’ve just spewed a chunky stream of crap with that paragraph, but if there’s truth in it, I think that will get better as they get more comfortable in the system.

by twincitiesknick on Oct 29, 2008 10:19 PM EDT up reply actions

well

i don’t know that jamal crawford’s heaving in the late fourth qualifies as “safe”, but i would agree that the ball movement dropped off considerably.
