Thoughts on Lee

NOTE: This was originally going to be a comment in the "Bell/Diaw" thread, but then I went way overboard and turned in into a fan post.

as good as David Lee is, and as much as we all like him, is it in the Knicks' best interests to sign him to a lucrative extension in the offseason?  if not, then they need to deal him before the deadline in order to sweeten the pot to shed Curry's fat ass ridiculous contract.

like i've said before, the ultimate goal should be to get as far under the cap as possible for 2010.  having already axed Z-Bo and Craw, getting LeBron plus another player (Bosh/Nash/Stoudemire/Wade/...?) is well within the realm of possibility.  though Diaw's contract goes through 2012, losing Curry would still free up an extra $2M (according to reports) for 2010.

Fat guys can be cool/talented.  Curry is neither.

what i like about this deal is potentially getting Raja Bell.  he seems like the perfect fit for this team and fills a huge need: a guard who can actually defend and consistently hit from three (41% career).  Bell is 32, but he's not in the long-term plans anyway - his $5M comes off the books after next season - and he could help this team sneak into the playoffs this year.  i've already talked about Diaw.  his contract sucks, but anybody is better than Curry.

what i don't like about the deal is parting with Lee, but i don't think the Knicks should give him $10M per season or anything like that.  i'm really curious as to what he would get on the open market.  if it was $10-12M, i would say pass, but if the Knicks can lock him up for four or five years at $6-8M then i don't have a problem with that.  Lee is a guy worth keeping around, but Wilson Chandler is the only player that i would label as untouchable.

what does everyone think?

yea man yo let me tell you what i think

i think bell is type wack. officially. but if he is gone in a minute he can play. i would throw money at nate and david, not tons of it, but a fiar wage. but you know what tho, lebron and them dudes are not going to come here if there are no pieces already in the mix. you think wade would sign with the knicks because they got d’antoni and wilson chandler, jared jeffries, and boris diaw? nah man, he migth as well stay mad at his teammates in miami for being half-wits. get some beach front, and fascinate them miami broads.

if lee and nate walk on us then they walk. but if we offer them market value or a little bit above than i think we did right by them. cus when their bird years come in – we can over the cap to sign them and they can get pay-ola. its higher risk for higher reward. so its not the easy choice for lee and nate. but i think you give them what they are due. and for the love of god get rid of everyone else. and go out and slap some scot pollard’s at the end of your bench. d’antoni uses 8 dudes. might as well have some super-stiffs that get get paid sean rooks/scott brooks type money.

yo CABIN FEVER right here i gotta goooooooooooo

Yeah, once again

I agree with you dude. I wouldn’t even call Chandler untouchable, but Nate and Lee have bent over backwards no homo for the Knicks in the past few years. Everyone else has been a total little bitch and doesn’t even deserve offers. Chandler, Nate, and Lee. Point blank PERRRRID.

I’m probably wrong, but I would say Lee would rather take 8 mil a year and play with LeBron or Wade or Bosh than 10 mil a year to play with motherfuckin Richard Jefferson or corny ass Dwight Howard or some shit? We’ll see, but I don’t think so.

"I'll probably go get lifted right now with Greg. Hey, and come back tomorrow and try to get another win."

yeah

i always got the feeling that lee wants to be a knick and is ready to accept his role if it means being part of a contender in the foreseeable future.

YUP

Trade Lee? Naw son. It’s bad enough we got rid of Renaldo, let’s not make things worse! Besides I don’t think other teams can possibly value Lee the way a Knicks team with 7 other players does.
