Around SBN: New media and the Loss of Sportsmanship

To all Knick fans.

Dubs fan here. Just saw on ESPN, and i saw an update that said Baron Davis is reportedly interested in joining your New York Knicks. So I was just wondering if we had signed him and traded him to your team.. who would it be for?

Here's my possible trade:

Baron Davis, Al Harrington, Stephen Jackson and the TPE for

#6 Pick, Stephon Marbury, Wilson Chandler

Knicks would have Baron, Crawford, Jackson, Randolph, Harrington, Curry

I hope not..

Donnie Walsh promised that we were gonna try and get under the cap. Without actually looking at the financials, I’d assume that the Knicks would be taking on quite a bit of payroll in that deal.

Not happening

You want that pick, Monta Ellis is coming over and we’re not taking Harrington’s contract for Marbury’s expiring contract. Isiah’s not in charge anymore.

so the knicks give up

the 6th pick in the draft, arguably their best young player (Chandler), and a huge expiring deal (Marbury) for a broken-down Baron Davis, Al Harrington’s contract, and Jax?

i’ll pass.

i agree with Dachs – Ellis has to be in that deal. a more logical deal would be the #6 pick and Malik Rose’s expiring deal (and possibly a Mardy Collins throw-in) for the #14, Ellis and Baron Davis.

i really don’t want to give up Marbury’s huge expiring deal, and this trade would help the Warriors trade up in the Draft and get out from the $17M owed to Davis next season.

Ewing with the step...YES! and the foul!

Fine, I'll be the token Knick fan...

It’s not a terrible offer.

1. Baron Davis and Stephen Jackson fill the Knicks’ two biggest needs – a SF and a smart PG.
2. Jax will improve the Knicks’ defense tremendously.
3. Neither Wilson Chandler nor the #6 pick are guaranteed to be anything more than role players. Chandler may never be a legit starter, and there are lots of examples of #6 picks that haven’t turned into much. Hell, Channing Frye is a decent player, but he’s not All-Star (he’s not even a starter), and he was a #7 pick.
4. Baron Davis & Jax would be great fits in D’Antoni’s system. The Warriors were basically running and gunning, too.
5. The Knicks would be ten times more exciting next year: Baron, Crawford, Jax, Lee, Curry/Randolph, with Robinson, Harrington and Richardson also coming off the bench. That’s a really good lineup for running, shooting threes, and doing what D’Antoni likes.
6. We keep Lee (and Balkman).
7. Salary cap concerns are overstated – all three of those Warrior contracts expire by summer 2010, which is the goal (LeBron summer). And we’re not going to get under the cap before 2010, not with Randolph, Curry, James, Richardson, Crawford and Jeffries all signed through 2010 or longer. So it does not effect the long-term plan.
