D'Antoni Gets Permission to Talk to Knicks
With thanks to our good friends at Bright Side of the Sun, KTAR in Arizona is reporting that Mike D'Antoni has been granted permission to talk to the Knicks and Bulls about vacant coaching positions.
D'Antoni was previously denied permission to speak with any team, Suns GM Steve Kerr told KTAR last week. Kerr and owner Robert Sarver met with D'Antoni for a lunch meeting on Friday to discuss his future with Phoenix, but it was reported a decision would not be made until later in the week. ESPN.com reported Friday that Chicago has emerged as the most likely landing spot for D'Antoni if he leaves Phoenix. Bulls management contacted D'Antoni's agent last week, according to sources close to the subject. D'Antoni, who has two years and $8.5 million left on his contract, would likely have to resign if he departed for Chicago.
First off, Chicago sounds like a better bet for D'Antoni. But say he is really interested in the Knicks spot? What do we think of him? Do remember that his only NBA coaching work was leading a run-and-gun offense with a two-time MVP at the point and an array of All-Star caliber weapons at other positions. He seems like a great guy and a fun coach, but does he fit a turnaround project with serious defensive flaws? I'm not so sure. Leave your thoughts in the comments.

My feelings...
What the Knicks have to offer (over the Bulls, or Raptors, or whoever):
1. Money. Lots of it.
2. No-lose scenario. If the Knicks suck, no one blames Mike. If they succeed, he’s the genius of all time, though.
3. A team with similarities to the Suns. Namely, they don’t play any defense.
It isn’t going to happen. But it’s nice to see Walsh doing the right thing, and going after the best available out there, even if they have little interest in the job. Due diligence and all that.

d'antoni
sounds absolutely wrong for a team like the knicks. the team needs to be taught defense and, as mentioned in the post, d’antoni is used to working with all-star caliber players. there’s no way he’d work on a team like ours.
in reference to the “2008 mvp” advertisement hosted by “sodahead.com” (?), i am going to have to vote for derrick rose, who narrowly beats out kevin garnett in a lakers jersey. nice ad, guys, and for the sake of the website, i hope you aren’t reading this.

Uh
that’s chris paul kobe and lebron.. i might be mistaken. However garnett looks pretty terribly photoshopped on their.
I was listening to the radio and they made reference to how D’antoni doesn’t develop players well. I don’t think we need that here. He will probably goto the Bulls anyway, they already have an established team that just had a down year last year.
