Gallinari for Rubio? 'nuff said
As a poster at Canis Hoopus (the T-Wolves SB nation blog) I was wondering the simple following: Would you guys ...
a.) trade Gallinari straight up for Rubio's rights.
b.) trade Gallinari straight up for Rubio if it was certain he would come over a.s.a.p.
c.) trade Gallinari + a protected pick (2012 or so) for Rubio (remember, I'm not a GM, you don't have to blow smoke :))
Thanks for your reply

oh my bust
allow me to dignify this post.
you are asking if i would trade a guy that can make an impact for a guy that might be able to make a theoretical impact, IF we are the team willing to buy out his most recent contractual agreement, which was, in fact, not with a team that even drafted him, much less a team that is in the same league as we are in.
furthermore, you have offered me no monetary contribution to this transaction. so really you want me to be the doctor for your wound, the operator who answered your 911 call, and the percocet to make you feel better.
meanwhile, i have to voluntarily slash my hand open, and you won’t be there to help me bandage my hand, nor to administer a proper scrip for my percocet. in fact you just want me to bleed for you.
you want to get rid of this pain?
A) you can start by admitting you were wrong, to think that my young star is of equal or lesser value than your botched attempt to amaze the lrague where amazing happens, only to make them laugh at you one pick later. that second pick, of course, is the reason you alienated your little cutesy boy toy. he wants to be the only one you love. i could see that from a continent away.
B) you can buy out his all of his contractual agreements, in full by your damned self. you want instant relief? no pain no gain. time to grow up, little one.
C) you can give me your 2010 pick. protected within the top 3. i’m not all bad. but you want to feel good about yourself, at the expense of others. and i’m not in the market for that.

No
Gallo’s gonna be very good, he showed flashes of his true ability last year even while he was hurt. I like Rubio, but there is just too much uncertainty there to give up a player like Gallo. I’d probably give up Hill or Chandler for Rubio if he came over right now, but not Gallinari.

no, no, and lol no
trading gallo for rubio is like trading a $100 bill for a $20 scratch-off: yeah, you could win more money, but chances are it’s not happening.

in other words
a gallo in hand is worth two in the bush.
Anyway, you should check out the movie "Black and White," which actually stars Allan Houston. It’s not a comedy, but rather a really serious and emotional movie. - Wilson Chandler

I don’t approve this trade either. but guys, il cock hasn’t done anything yet. ya’ll are talking as if he’s already a perennial all-star. he’s shoots very well in practice, he says all the right things, and he gets pissed off. that is ALL we’ve seen of him. career avg. 6 and 2. he’s scored exactly 14 pts this pre-season. how about we let him score in double digits ONCE before we crown him the king of ny with fancy metaphors.
we have nothing in hand so far. the chickens are still in the eggs. They hype machine needs to cool out.

To be fair, here’s how I view it.
In my opinion Rubio has a bit higher ceiling and I’m actually fairly sure he’ll surpass Gallinari. On the other hand, we all seem to overvalue our own players…
I was expecting you guys wouldn’t want to trade Gallo for Rubio’s Rights and certainly not with a pick attached to Gallo BUT I don’t get that you wouldn’t trade Gallo for Rubio straight up.
That, off course, is only fantasy speculation as Rubio is in a contract and all that, but that you wouldn’t trade the two players straight up, with no contract problems, that I don’t get. But .. as said, your replies enlightend me :). Had no ideo Gallo was so big in NY.

I've never believed that Rubio will be any good.
I've won multiple titles with the Knicks on 2k9, which means I have better credentials than Isiah did.

maybe because...
Rubio hasn’t done squat.
We don’t even know if that skinny kid can even play in the league.
Gallo, on an injured back, showed us all more than enough that he at the very least can be a solid shooter in the game, something that is invaluable in the Pringles offense.
We’ve seen what Gallo can do and since he’s young and still raw, we know he can get a lot better.
Also, the team loves him already as do the fans (pause?) While time would cure all, why would you trade him for Rubio, when all Rubio has done is pout that he doesn’t want to play in Minnesota?

I'm a Wolves fan
I would burn Target Center if Kahn pulled this trade. So, uh, kind’ve a moot point.
Gallinari’s nice enough. He’s not going to be a franchise player. Rubio has a significant shot at that.

see...
and we all are thinking that Gallo could be that Franchise player.
He was pretty good last year, and considering how bad his back was injured, he showed a lot for that.
Rubio? Hasn’t done SHIT yet.

Flip a coin
Honestly, you’ve got two young guys who earn some pretty high reviews from other players, both with success in Europe. One could be great, both could be great, or neither could be great. I don’t want to even risk being known as the guy that traded a great young player away for a Euro-scrub so I’ll just pass on this one and take my chances with what I’ve got.

first of all..
nrmax88… nobody jumped on anyone for offering theoretical trades. Stop jumping on your Conclusions mat for a damn second. Its you throwing out all this crap about Gallo being like LeBron and Knicks/Rangers fans treating our young guys as megastars. So maybe put a lid on it, and maybe recognize that a lot of stuff on here is sarcastic. Sometimes that has to be explained to the young-ins.
The original question was Gallo for Rubio’s rights. Theres an easy answer to this too. Stingy D posted about how trading for Rubio means waiting 2 years for him to even appear in a NY uniform, amongst other things. Not only that, but for someone who is a pure PG and been playing pro for like 4 years already, he doesn’t seem to handle pressure so well. This is a guy who turned down his NBA career dream because he didn’t like cold weather and didn’t like that he had competition for a starting spot. Screw that hes 18, obviously hes way young. He chose to make himself eligible for the draft and he almost did it last year too.
So a lot of Knick fans want to give Gallinari a chance to prove his worth rather than dump him for a guy we have to wait 2 years for. Gallo wants to be here and wants to play for Coach Pringles. And once those 2 years are up, theres no guarantee he wont change his mind yet again. Do we want that indecisive mind running the show at MSG…the biggest stage in hoops??
Nevermind Minnesota was likely looking for 2 of 3 of Chandler, Lee, or Nate so no way would they take just Gallinari.
He may have been hurt most of last season, but the consensus has been that Gallo can play. If he gets another big back injury this season, THEN maybe we can worry that he is injury prone. I’d much rather have the guy who is getting pissed over missed jump shots in practice, than the guy who isn’t sure he is ‘ready’ to play in the NBA. No doubt, Rubio will be solid if he comes over, but where the hell is his head at??
Oh and when you come out with something stupid like “..Knicks and Rangers fans are annoying.” Don’t expect us to compliment you on your supposed insight. Expect that we are going to point out your own premature judgements and overall idiocracy.

To be fair
No one but Rubio knows exactly why he didn’t come to Minnesota, but if you look at the situation, he was going to basically commit his entire 3 year rookie contract pay, plus a percentage of theoretical endorsement money, to pay off his Joventut buyout. That means if he’s hurt during that time, or if he isn’t the dominating player, he’ll never make money. This way, he gets paid well for two years, and then with a reasonable buyout, he can come to the NBA and make money. To me it makes the most sense that it wasn’t the cold, or Jonny Flynn, or Minnesota, but mostly the money issue that kept him in Europe. Financial stability for his family vs. playing basically for free for three years. Regardless, he’s an unknown quantity that we would have to wait at least 2 years for.

You get a sunshine sticker for your clear and concise thoughts.

Rubio’s little dirt stache that he gets going is annoying as fuck too. I bet Gallo can grow a beard.
