Fire D'Antoni?
New York Knicks scheduleNew York KnicksNew York Knicks rosterNew York Knicks stats
No! Knicks fans need to have patience. The team needs Duhon to play better, and should get a spark from Nate Robinson's return tonight. If the level of play does not improve, MSG will be empty all season. D'Antoni needs to get Eddy Curry in his rotation as well. If he can play at all, we can pick up a draft pick in a trade. It's all about next year, but no big stars are going to come here if the knicks are terrible. Big error not moving up in this years draft, at least Stephon Curry would have given knicks fans something to watch this year.

Stephen Curry is terrible. The mistake was in not taking Brandon Jennings or Ty Lawson, or trading up for Rubio or Flynn.

Yeah, he had good numbers in college. In the NBA, he can’t play D, doesn’t get to the line, and doesn’t rebound. Don’t the Knicks have enough guys like that? He doesn’t appear to be at the same level as the other guys.

HELL YES
Five dudes standing on the 3 pt line is not a strategy. Being allergic to playing defense isn’t either.

I will tell you this:
I think what we are seeing is that he is trying to fit these guys into his system that worked (and was very entertaining) in Phoenix. So he is asking Duhon to be Nash, he’s asking Lee to be Stoudemire. The problem with this approach is that our guys aren’t those guys. Players can and should work to expand and improve their games, but a coach should find out what a player does well and figure out a system that allows them to do that. The Knicks may not have the complementary skills to succeed and that’s not D’antoni’s fault… but I do think that when you try to force a player to be something he’s not, he’s not going to have success and he’s going to start losing confidence. I think that’s what we’re seeing with Duhon right now. And maybe with Lee as well. And these guys are hearing the footsteps of the rookies as well. All the players have gone into this season with open minds and good attitudes but the results have been so horrendous it’s got to be demoralizing.
I think D’antoni has to go back to the drawing board and figure out a way to use the players he’s got in a different kind of system, but that’s got to be difficult for him. We’ll see if he can do it. Personally, I think their best bet to start winning games with this roster is to get Eddy back and start feeding him the ball in the post. Let Lee clean up the weakside and shoot from the perimeter, and just put a stop to other teams dominating the middle – let Gallo and Douglas be your outside threats and let Douglas wreak his defensive havoc.
I mean, I love that 7sol offense and the fans in Phoenix love it too. But it’s pretty obvious it needs Nash and Amare to succeed. I’ll give D’antoni a chance to recognize this for this season, and to attract LeBron or Wade or whatever. But if they don’t make the playoffs, and don’t get better throughout the season, and then they don’t land one of the big 3, I’d can him and bring in Mark Jackson because he might better understand how to make use of this particular roster.

Yes indeed
Agree 100% with everything. I don’t know how many feel like I do but I thought Jackson would be the better choice because he’d place a heavier emphasis on defense( which is what was really needed) However, now that we have Dantoni he deserves a chance to turn it around. 2 seasons is not exactly a good measure given the mess we are in. Dantoni is a good coach…not the best, but really good and he should get a chance to prove himself and make a few mistakes along the way.

Fire D'Antoni
I had to join this blog because as a native New Yorker and Knicks fan,I can’t believe that the media isn’t calling for this guys head. Let me start by saying that i’m not a Steph fan,the former, but can anyone say he is not better than Duhon, who is a good back up. D’Antoni was hired because of a system that worked with an all time great point guard, an allstar power foward, and role players that have high basketball IQs. The Knicks do not have that, and it can’t be coached!!! Good coaches coach according to the talent!!! What is this BS about 2010,nobody is coming to this train wreck.
Fire this man!!! I never thought that I would live to see the day,but this team is just as bad as it was with Zeeke, and that was BAD.

What?
name coach that would do better with this mess.
This is the mess ‘zeeke’ created. Not one single coach could fix this. The only way to do it is to just STOP doing anything for a year, get expiring contracts and start with a new slate.
The mess that the last asshole brought this organization will still last for the NBA draft and until Jeffires and Curry (if he doesn’t get better with the lost weight) are gone.
Its all about next year and the future. Unfortunately, the players know that too, that’s why they’ve quit. Not one single coach could make this work.
“Fire D’Antoni” is a really foolish idea at this point. He was hired to direct the 2010 squad. No one cares about the 2009 squad.
Why people don’t understand this…I really have no clue.
These guys have a plan. Part of the plan is to dismiss 2009.
Its sucks, yea. But I’d rather lose a season that some stupid bastard trying to “make the playoffs” by signing Jared jeffries, and trading a decad’es worth of lottery picks (and failing on many others).

steph
is a disaster of a basketball player. get over it. he walked out on his team and got what he deserved. I actually still applaud MD and DW for giving him nothing and not just letting him walk like he wanted. Marbury is the epitome of everything that was wrong with basketball in the immediate post-jordan era.
D’Antoni was hired because he has a strong system that works. They knicks are looking to add players that fit that system (Like Hill, and Gallo) and will do so with the money they have to spend in 2010.
You dont ask him to change his game. They young guys that will be here next year are learning it, and what they do is important. A coaching system is something that has been developed over years of work and for him to change it for Duhan is absurd. That great point guard needed for the system will be found… dont worry…
What is this BS about 2010,nobody is coming to this train wreck.
Yes.. none of the roughly 10 really really good basketball players that are FA in 2010 are going to go to the #1 media market to play for a strong and respected players coach. LBJ and Wade may stay where they are at. True. (they also may not…) but there are many good players that will be around that summer along with some very good ones the next summer… Players will come for the money and fame.
Basically… you failed with this post.

yeh
the steph thing didn’t end well….but eny400 has a point. Steph is and was better than Duhon at any point in time…I’d bet money Anfernee Hardaway is better than Duhon right now….Tim Hardaway….etc etc

#13 should be retired
I’m as big a Mark Jackson fan as any Knick fan but no way in Nets hell should they have hired him as a coach since the man as ZERO coaching experience of any kind.
Now hiring him and Charles O as consultants, to work with the young bigs/guards we have, is something I am completely in favor of!
