Game Thread: Knicks vs. Celtics- 11/22/09

Boston Celtics at New York Knicks, Nov 22, 2009 1:00 PM EST

3701138110_59d5c99f44_medium

Ok! I'm up! I'm awake! Jeez. The Knicks are in action for another 1 p.m. match-up this afternoon at the Garden. The wily Boston Celtics are in town, and have all the weapons to make this happen again. Then again, things like this happen occasionally, so there's some reason to believe.

I'll be around for the game thread and am back in the driver's seat for recap duties. If you're watching, stop by the thread, and check out CelticsWebsite as well. Go Knicks.

knicks are actually playing pretty solid defense

also doing a decent job on the offensive boards and just started hitting threes.

nate’s playing well.

i don't know

gallo shouldn’t be more than a foot away from him outside.

also, gallo should take him off the dribble every time they match up on the other end.

gotta finish strong

the seas part wherever duhon goes

teams give him wide open shots everywhere on the floor. makes it tough for his teammates to cut and tough for him to pass

First time posting, exciting game! Maybe they can pull this one out.

Also, I hate Chris Duhon.

great defensive play, then an awful no-call

I’ll take it. KG goes hard.

by Stargazey on Nov 22, 2009 3:40 PM EST reply actions

Did you guys

see Gallo calling for the ball on that last possession, then looked pissed he didn’t get it?

by fuhry on Nov 22, 2009 3:45 PM EST reply actions

OT

Good thing Harrington made those shots no?
But I still like Gallo Rooster Man better

by Mrs. Shaquanta D. Edwards on Nov 22, 2009 3:47 PM EST reply actions

cmon

force a tough shot here and secure the rebound. don’t lose 23 seconds of great defense with 1 bad one.

by Seth on Nov 22, 2009 3:52 PM EST reply actions

Al Harrington

is the hardest player I’ve ever had to watch. He could be a KG or Dirk style player if he was just mildly consistent.

by Stargazey on Nov 22, 2009 3:52 PM EST reply actions

what happened to the whole developing our young core??

granted i wont complain about our overall performance this one time

by KnickWiz on Nov 22, 2009 3:52 PM EST reply actions

Pierce

looked old on that possession, did I just see David Lee guarding him?

by fuhry on Nov 22, 2009 3:53 PM EST reply actions

DAMN YOU KEVIN GARNETT

by Stargazey on Nov 22, 2009 3:57 PM EST reply actions

He’s still on the B and Duhon’s on the floor, why God.

by Stargazey on Nov 22, 2009 3:59 PM EST reply actions

wow

They leave him open at the top of the key…

by IB on Nov 22, 2009 4:04 PM EST reply actions

It

seems really stupid to give Garnett that much space. 4 knicks hanging around the basket.

by fuhry on Nov 22, 2009 4:04 PM EST reply actions

why not foul pierce?

Leave Chad Billingsley alone!!!

by shaqfor3 on Nov 22, 2009 4:05 PM EST reply actions

Also

Did Duhon do anything to help them win in that OT? I didn’t see anything. Maybe he played good D on Allen. DWTDD.

Looks to me like the celtics have lost something but they had enough. It just seems silly not to have the Gallo outside threat out there.

by fuhry on Nov 22, 2009 4:05 PM EST reply actions

yea man

need gallo in there. and no reason why nate isnt getting duhon’s minutes. especially with nate having a break out performance.

WTF?!?!

WHY WAS THERE NO FOUL ON KG?!?!?! we had 1 foul to give!!

COULD HAVE WON- STUPID!

Wil and David

HAVE to communicate properly during those situations. I don’t know if they were gonna deviate from the normal plan of switching on everything or what but cot damn, if KG can shoot from one spot on the floor the college 3 at the top is it.

yea but everyone does that shit

in the nba in crunchtime. not an excuse. it wasnt even a GOOD pushoff by KG to be honest

i knew we didnt have it.

harrington thinks too highly of himself. and duhon is not a threat. they don’t deserve the minutes. harrington was obviously tired. fails to rotate. go fuckin figure.

he wasnt tired…u see him in O? tell u what it is he didnt wanna get that 6th foul. I’d bet 10000000 dollars on it

by Prezs2ReprsntMe on Nov 22, 2009 4:16 PM EST up reply actions

yea i saw him

his game is so obvious and easy to defend.

here’s a break down:

1. harrington decides to shoot
2. harrington gets the ball
3. harrington holds the ball
4. harrington stumbles and bumbles to the hoop with two or three defenders on him.
5. everyone stands still for 15 seconds
6. harrington misses or gets lucky

same thing every time.

Dudes

Harrington got several huge buckets driving to the hoop down the stretch. He does what he does. Thing is, once he got 5 fouls he thinks its better not to play D. He thinks he so awesome offensively that if he fouls out they’ll lose, but I’d get on his case for that shit. He can drive on anyone and get you a hoop, but if he’s going to abandon D with 5 fouls I’d take him out when he gets that 5th.

by fuhry on Nov 22, 2009 5:36 PM EST up reply actions

yo man

i agree and shit. but the thing is, with regard to harrington hitting a lot of big shots – he does that 1 out of every 5 games, and everyone is on his nuts. yet, it’s not like we didn’t have other options. nate was causing plenty of commotion. but nate is a willing passer.

so yea harrington made some big ones, but in nearly every other game this year, he doesn’t make any big shots. but he takes a shit ton of em because if he gets the bal he is going to shoot and thats all there is to it.

nate should usurp duhon immediately. duhon should be getting 20-25 minutes. and maybe you’re right, we should pretend harrington has fouled out when he gets to five.

but honestly, harrington is the reason we lost the game, whether you think he kept us in or not. i personally think he did not keep us in it. and i also believe duhon puts us at a disadvantage when he have guys that can actually play that are getting the job done. furthermore, gallo needs to be in at the end of games, no matter what every game all year, no matter what. otherwise, lert’s trade him. let’s trade him right now while his value is still reasonably high.

Don't get me wrong

I’m not a big Harrington fan – to me, when he hits a few threes, like he did tonight, he gets the defense up on him and he can drive to the hoop. But when he doesn’t hit those threes (more often than not) they don’t tend to win. And you’re right, the dude never passes. On the other hand, he’s pretty good getting to the hoop.

you’re totally right though, they need to play gallo and toney in the end because those guys need to learn how to do it.

by fuhry on Nov 22, 2009 9:32 PM EST up reply actions

there needs to be a statistic

for how many times al harrington falls down while making his move to the basket. and then there should be a league average. and then you should change your mind about what you just said.

This proves five things.

1. The Knicks are not as bad as their record.

2. The Ticks are no where near good enough to win a title (Magic take the East)

3. The Knicks need a lead guard, Coach Super Mario’s favorite player (Duhon) is NOT the answer.

4. The Knicks need a big at the 5 if Curry doesn’t step up and play more minutes soon, because David Lee at the 5 = Loss, Loss LOSS!

5. The Knicks need a superstar player that can take that game winning shot … nothing doing on this one till free agency or till Gallo gets some serious minutes and plays called for him to prove he is what we all think he is … counting on Al in crunch time is not the answer. Again I blame Coach Super Mario.

Good effort by the Knicks, except Duhon, no reason why a PG that doesn’t score in double figures shouldn’t at least have double figure assists.

I hope Jeffries gets well soon, don’t wish harm on anyone personally, though I do hope he NEVER PLAYS ANOTHER GAME!!!

…. just saying.

on point 5..

It’s hard to fault the O, they got huge buckets to tie in both regulation and OT. I think the big problem is point 3, which I agree with. Duhon did not put any pressure on them. He’s just not dangerous enough. He needs to be able to hit a shot or push the tempo or something. I don’t understand why they’re not trying to play Douglas at the point, because they need to know if he can do it and this is the only way. But I guess D’antoni thinks this is the best way to win. I guess I have to have patience.
