Around SBN: Knicks Beat Lakers With Familiar Strategy

Much outrage has been spent and many brows furrowed over Nate Robinson’s bizarre decision to shoot at the wrong basket during the Knicks game against the Nets on Saturday. But it appears that the Knicks’ greatest concern -– that he might have scored 3 points for the Nets -– is misplaced.
Knicks Coach Mike D’Antoni was not pleased after Nate Robinson shot at the wrong basket on Saturday.Jason Szenes for The New York Times Knicks Coach Mike D’Antoni was not pleased after Nate Robinson shot at the wrong basket on Saturday.

According to the N.B.A. rulebook, if a player intentionally shoots at the opponent’s basket, it results in a turnover, but no points. (The rules do allow for accidental tip-ins.)

Watching the replay

It looks to me like Nate is in such a hurry to turn around and shoot at the wrong basket that he shuffles his feet and travels. If I were the ref, I would have callled a travel and awarded the ball to Nets with .02 seconds left.

Nates a clown. I’m not so sure that’s necessarily a bad thing. But I’m also not sure Nate helps the team win. I’m not saying he doesn’t, I’m just not sure.

it was the wrong time for that

I mean of course it was harmless. But of all people, Nate has put himself on thin ice with his ‘immaturity’. I thought too much was put into those other incidents during the season, and the whole ticket thing did nothing to ease anything. Little things like this scream to Walsh and D’Antoni that Nate isn’t really learning. It was the rigth move to bench him afterwards. I love the guy, but the league already looks at NY as a laughingstock. We don’t need to embrace it though. Lack of focus is fucking us up and I can’t put that on D’Antoni. All these meaningless, minor incidents eventually add up to a bigger overall issue.

I just wish I would see Nate be the guy who starts stepping up and being positively vocal and forcing D’Antoni to keep him on the floor. He has the talent to do it, but to a point, he holds himself back. I hope these little things don’t punch his ticket outta NY….
