Game Thread: Knicks vs. Cavaliers- 11/6/09

Cleveland Cavaliers at New York Knicks, Nov 6, 2009 8:00 PM EST

Nblackracer_medium
It's a big night, folks. The Knicks will be on national TV tonight as Jawad Williams as the Cleveland Cavaliers come to town. This here's your game thread for discussion throughout what promises to be an eventful night. I'd like to reiterate my request that we not use the name of a certain free agent to-be in order to protest the obscene amount of attention and ass-kissing he gets from the local media. He is the opponent and we will treat him as such, and then some.

Maybe, just maybe, New York can put in a decent effort and surprise the Cavs. It'd be great for our own guys to be the focus of attention, just this once. Go Knicks.

And for everyone who didn't get the memo

we’re trying not to mention the name, last name, initials, or nickname of that player who plays in ohio who is a free agent this summer
for tonight’s game

thanks

by Frederic Weis on Nov 6, 2009 8:45 PM EST reply actions

but what if I want to talk about LBJ's failure vis-a-vis Vietnam?

Oh, my bad. It won’t happen again

by Jsz on Nov 6, 2009 9:20 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

jeffs rippin us

but hes absolutely right. we are a terrible team with no stars, we should throw hill out there to develop with douglas and gallo. that can be our only bright spots this season

by KnickWiz on Nov 6, 2009 8:52 PM EST reply actions

Does anyone pass Gallo the ball?

I think that’s what I’m most pissed about, the only player I want to watch is not involved in any play. I don’t know if I should blame the coach or the clowns who call themselves pro basketball players

by Nolan B on Nov 6, 2009 8:54 PM EST reply actions

This is the first Knicks game I've gotten to see this year

let’s just say I’m not exactly impressed…

how has Hill looked overall this year?

I really don’t know much about him, other than that he has awesome dreads

He hasn't played

It’s nice to see him thogh

by Nolan B on Nov 6, 2009 8:58 PM EST up reply actions

he's barely played

tho, those 2 trips down the court he looked like a 8th overall pick.

(tho on defense…he looked like he belongs on the Knicks)

ah ok

I don’t live in NY anymore, so this is the first Knicks game I’ve been able to watch in quite a while.

I miss it

but trying to sell my girlfriend on moving back just so I can watch my favorite sports teams hasn’t gone over too well

You picked the wrongass game.

The last one wasn’t embarrassing at all!

by Martha on Nov 6, 2009 9:03 PM EST up reply actions

Do you think it'd be better with a different coach?

Or just a different kind of shitty? (That’s a sincere question. I really like D’Antoni, but that’s as much about his personality as anything else, which isn’t a reason to hire/keep a guy.)

by Martha on Nov 6, 2009 9:05 PM EST up reply actions

I feel that a coach's two most important jobs are

1. to get the best out of each player
and
2. to make the whole greater than the sum of its parts

Dantoni fails on both counts.

by Shivling on Nov 6, 2009 9:08 PM EST up reply actions

to be honest, this has sucked for so long I completely lost interest and stopped paying attention

but now that my 11 y.o. is becoming a sports nut I have a reason to get back in….and right about now I am regretting that. :(

I grew up watching the Knicks of the 70’s and so for me defense is what wins. Watching four guys standing at the 3 pt line is not the game I want to see them play. I always like Van Gundy. Never understood why he bailed.

by Shivling on Nov 6, 2009 9:30 PM EST up reply actions

the whole has no shot at equalling the parts

these guys learned some bad habits under the last pile of crap…you don’t fix that in one year, especially if all they add is a new coach.

I don’t mind Pringles.

If next season they have a completely retooled roster and still suck…yea, its him.

Hard to say “D’Antoni fails” when…not much else you can do with this team.

DO WHAT JERRY HAIRSTON DO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by FreeBradshaw on Nov 6, 2009 9:11 PM EST up reply actions

That's sorta how I feel.

And I respect how he deals with the guys, at least so far — it’s gotta be hard to coach a team that will only reach the playoffs if a miracle occurs. Keeping them vaguely positive for a few months, let alone a whole season, has got to be a HUGE challenge.

by Martha on Nov 6, 2009 9:13 PM EST up reply actions

I mean, Van Gundy keeps harping on it, but he's right

how the hell can you coach in this situation?

YOu got a whole bunch of players that KNOW they probably aint coming back.

THe plan isn’t even to win this year (no matter what Pringles and Eye Pillows say), its just not.

DO WHAT JERRY HAIRSTON DO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by FreeBradshaw on Nov 6, 2009 9:16 PM EST up reply actions

Exactly.

It’s a huge challenge for all of them, but Pringles most of all IMO. Plus, how do you measure success for a coach in this situation? No homicides? An ass or two still in the Garden seats by the end of the season?

by Martha on Nov 6, 2009 9:23 PM EST up reply actions

Jordan fuckin HILL!

DO WHAT JERRY HAIRSTON DO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by FreeBradshaw on Nov 6, 2009 9:05 PM EST reply actions

he looks good

on the other hand, I think Bill Russell has quicker legs than Shaq right now

I’ll take that.

oh yea, definitely

I just felt like taking a shot at Shaq

Hey

The Cavs have twice as many rebounds as the Knicks.

by fuhry on Nov 6, 2009 9:07 PM EST reply actions

i really really hate duhon.

he is the biggest reason for the knicks overall suckiness because he has absolutely no decsision making skills. the most cruical part of the system is missing.

by KnickWiz on Nov 6, 2009 9:10 PM EST reply actions

Why has Gallo only taken 4 shots all night?

I’m sorry for sounding like a Gallinari homer but he’s currently our second highest scorer tonight yet Duhon NEVER passes to him

by Nolan B on Nov 6, 2009 9:11 PM EST reply actions

Abandon all hope

D’Antoni can’t get this team to run for some reason. Walking the ball up in this half court garbage the Knicks might be the worst team in the league.

by runningdonut on Nov 6, 2009 9:15 PM EST reply actions

can they run?

the only way you can run is if you got someone to bring the ball up with speed.

Who can do that? Duhon sure as hell can’t.

Larry Hughes? Really?

DO WHAT JERRY HAIRSTON DO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by FreeBradshaw on Nov 6, 2009 9:17 PM EST up reply actions

I don't think the Lakers would give up

Morrison straight up.

Farmer? I doubt the Lakers are that dumb.

Did Jordan Hill really launch a 3?

by fuhry on Nov 6, 2009 9:19 PM EST reply actions

I don't think so?

stats say so?

He missed one from a step in, I know that…

I'm gonna watch the 2nd half on MSG

I need to hear Walt’s soothing voice right now

by Frederic Weis on Nov 6, 2009 9:25 PM EST reply actions

Even though Kenny Albert is no Marv

And they shouldn’t have replaced Gus “I LIKE TO SCREAM” Johnson

by Frederic Weis on Nov 6, 2009 9:29 PM EST up reply actions

they just dont run

i dont know if theyre tired or not but they dont #@# run! they never take advantage of fast break opportunities either

by KnickWiz on Nov 6, 2009 9:35 PM EST reply actions

Why is this game on national television?

The Cavs aren’t even playing that well, the Knicks are just awful

by Nolan B on Nov 6, 2009 9:56 PM EST reply actions

If I hated myself less I’d never watch a basketball game again after this, it’s torture

by FreeBradshaw on Nov 6, 2009 10:26 PM EST reply actions

Duhon

was 0 for the game. But he did have 8 assists and 2 steals and only one turnover. Douglas recorded the first assist of his career… I think. More of that, Toney! How’d he look?

by fuhry on Nov 6, 2009 10:42 PM EST reply actions

Duhon also NEVER passes to Gallo

Toney Douglas looked lost sadly

by Nolan B on Nov 6, 2009 10:44 PM EST up reply actions

Also

They sure got demolished on the boards. Also, Lyndon Baines Johnson had 7 turnovers. Who needs that guy?

by fuhry on Nov 6, 2009 10:43 PM EST reply actions

At lest He Who Shall Not Be Named Spoke to Gallo!

The only Knick he approached after the game was The Cock!

i havent given up on coach d

but this is the worst defensive team i have ever seen…. do we even scout our opponent. do we ever make adjustments…. utah just comes down and there is no resistance to their offensive sets… they get whatever they want.

and dont get me started on the transition defense.

cmon guys… damn
