The Answer?
5 Reasons the Knicks should trade for A.I.
1.) He gives a shit.
2.) Seeing him and Nate in the backcourt would just be so awesome.
3.) Great press conferences. "2010? We talking bout 2010?!"
4.) He would sure as hell make this season more fun to watch. And right now, don't you want Knicks basketball to be fun to watch again?
5.) When it implodes and Iverson gets more and more disgruntled it'll give us something to talk about instead of how much it's gonna hurt if the Jazz get the number #1 pick

Bonus
6.) It’d make the team way better in NBA 2K10

Aslong as we don't move Gallo I'm down.

We can't trade for him until Dec 15
Because he was just signed. But if the Grizz waive him, we could pick him up and drop Duhon. I thought this was a terrible idea all season, but seeing the team now, I think it’s a great idea, because
1. He’s a ball hog, sure, but he will put the team on his back and they don’t have a guy that can do that.
2. He’s obviously not willing to take a lesser role to put a contender over the top, but I think he can still walk the walk. He could help a bad team win 10 extra games.
3. 10 extra games means the Jazz don’t get John Wall.

#3 is appropriate...
Starbury’s #3, not Starks’. AI in orange and blue would be as fun to watch as Steph at the spa: a thriller, a headcase, a prima Donna. http://bit.ly/282QHZ
I love the guy, but we’re so close to actually rebuilding. Enough with the sideshows.
But fuhry has a point re: draft pick…

your right...
but I mean he can’t be any worse than Al harrington right? (who..if they somehow manage to land Iverson…AL has to go….).
No one’s talking about a multi-year deal anyway. He can bring up the ball, he likes stats, I think he’ll pass to Gallo to get the assists up.

Actually, Iverson might be a better fit than we may think. Sure, he is on the downside of his career, but he still has plenty of juice. Iverson just wants to start somewhere. He has shown his scoring, but he has also stepped up to play PG when asked. He doesn’t shoot as many bad shots as he used to, and he will definitely drive hard to the lane. I could easily see him driving and kicking it out to a wing.
The more i think about it too, the Knicks are really just a team leader away from geling. You bring in a guy like Iverson who can rejuvenate himself in NY and bring a little intensity to the floor. just might be something that works. Iverson is also not Stephon Marbury. The stories may sound alike, but he’s not him.

true, but...
Just talking about AI + NYK gives me a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach. Taking other team’s damaged goods because they had some presumed upside rarely works out for us (Steve Francis, Eddie Curry, Starbury, Charles Smith…Spree is the only exception, IMO). Many good arguments in support of the move, but my spider sense is tingling…

of course
we all realize that this is exactly the type (style) of player walsh and d’antoni can’t stand, right?

*sigh*
Didn’t think I would ever say this again, but this team could really use allen iverson. Want a point guard who pushes the tempo, can finish at the rim, plays defense, gets other guys involved, and on top of all that, is hungry to prove his worth??? Pull AI out of that swamp in Memphis and put him back on the big stage. I’ve lived in philly my whole life and AI is the answer for this bunch. Never liked duhon, he’s a backup at best. nate is a spark off the bunch, and thats it, plus probably won’t be around next year, and while AI might stunt Toney D’s development, he could also teach him a few things as toney becomes acclimated to the league.
Iverson is cheap, which seems to be donnie and mike’s big thing, and if you don’t like him, you can dump him at the end of the year. But he is a big game player and can be the go to play maker when the clock is winding down. And in an offense like this?? It’s practically designed for AI at this stage in his career. Drive, defense collapses, and dish to Gallo. Pick and roll with lee. Harassing guards up front with TD or hughes. I dont see any point in not trying this.
Didn’t want to rant, and i know it’s only been 7 games, but lord NY doesn’t want to be a laughing stock. Duhon and harrington are not leaders on or off the floor despite their good-natured and much appreciated efforts, and i think AI would be grateful to get a starting gig in basketball’s mecca. He’d want to work to show he deserved it.
AI has something to prove? Perfect, so does this entire Knicks franchise. Make the call Donnie, and send jeffries and duhon packing.

As long as they get rid of Harrington...
and start AI…I can’t see it being a bad idea.
But to have him and Harrington on the same team would really suck. It would kill the development of Gallo and any of the other youngins.
Really..I think they should just let him go somewhere else.

as usual i agree with chris child’s fist. I mean, Seth just made a post about a lack of accountability and pointed to D’Antoni.
what this team needs is someone to take ownership of the team. It needs a general. it’s great that Harrington (the Al and A.I. thing is getting very confusing) and JJ are trying to do that, but clearly it’s not working. I’m not saying Iverson’s a great leader, but dudes’ll listen and he’ll bust chops if it’s neccesary.
But this team also needs someone to dominate the ball on the court. Someone who’ll demand the ball down the stretch. I mean, over the last couple of years how many close games have we lost because we don’t have a closer? I’m sick of it.

I agree with this totally
Harrington and Jeffries are trying to be leaders, talking the talk, but neither can back it up on the court. Iverson still can. It’s not just at the end of the game, it’s at the beginning of the game too. It’s when things are getting wonky and the team starts losing its mojo. You need someone to say “C’mon guys, follow me!”.
But I think Toney Douglas has that ability too.
