Why the short rotation is not a big deal
I have been reading many comments on various blogs about how the short rotation is going to be the downfall of what seems to be a productive season. That there is no way our guys will be able to do this for an entire season, they will get tired about 3/4 of the way though and then we will fall back to the bottom of the standings.
This made sense... we all saw in Chicago how they got tired, and chucked away a win. Although, that game seemed to be an aberration, in the sense that it was a shorter then normal rotation.
But do the Knick players really play that much more then normal? I checked the stats:
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/statistics?stat=nbaminutes&league=nba&sort=mins&order=true&season=2010
Only 1 Knick in the top 50 (Lee at 35 mpg). All 5 Knick starters in the top 100, and our 6th man at #104. None of them getting more then 35 per and all within about 5 min of each other. Guys getting more minutes per game are guys like Lebron, Mello, Paul, Ariza, Do we expect them to fade in the playoffs?
If they can do it so can the Knick players. It doesn't seem that MD is giving anyone excessive minutes. He just isn't bothering to take their earned minutes and give it to guys he doesn't think deserve to be on the floor.
We should not be concerned unless we see all our guys getting a crazy amount of minutes. If we see the top 10 is half knicks... OK... but right now it all seems ok.

I think average mpg is down for the Knicks
because of all the blowouts.

That should read: If those guys do it we should be able to do it.
Your assuming that our Knick players and the guys you just mentioned are the same athletically and have the same off season conditioning, which would be nice but I doubt it.
but I agree that they should be expected and ready to perform in any rotation set by the coach. Not only that but our roster is conductive to a short rotation having a number of guys that can play multiple positions off the bench.
Is it smart at this point…I don’t think so but that can be debated but either way just because you can doesn’t mean you should.

I dont see why
our guys would not be in top shape. They know they have a coach that plays a short rotation and has a fast paced game.
I have been looking for a sortable stat for the past month. to see if its been excessive since he shortened the rotation… but I cant find it. I feel like the stats for yahoo fantasy would do it, but I am not playing this season so I cant get into that database.
I just dont get the complaints when if you look at it they are not playing more then other players around the league. If after hughes comes back they are still averaging more then 35 mpg then ok… but it seems like they should be able to handle it.
well, it seems like our guys are playing more than their AVGs suggest
and when you are using a 7 man rotation (sometimes 6) and brickin’ 3s the way the Knicks have been, you can’t help but be curious about who is tired and wonder why so many able, fresh, legs are on the bench waiting to get in the game.
