Postgame: Nets 104, Knicks 95
I guess we should've seen that one coming.
Hey, at least David Lee kept his numbers up, right?
...Right?

what better way for the 2000s Knicks to end the decade
than a loss to a two-win Nets team?
last night’s game was a microcosm of a decade of Knicks basketball that i can’t wait to put behind me.

Well
They’ve beat up on the Nets in every preseason and regular season game so far… and the Nets are finally healthy. Yi has been playing well, too. I figured they were due for a win. Too bad it had to come against the Knicks. Funny, the Knicks stats don’t look awful, though it appears Duhon took too many shots and Gallo not enough. Also no Cock Block… but three Al blocks. Weird. The Nets didn’t even outrebound them… although they had 5 less turnovers. And they shot over 50% from the field.
Nets just scored one in the Lebron-a-thon. Oh well, move on and play the next one.
uuugghh
i dont know why, but this loss was actually a bit depressing for me..
the knicks make me feel like a little schoolgirl.. i get giddy when we start winning.. but then they cheat on me as soon as i start believing
If you just saw how the Nets were playing recently..
and their record..you’d think the Knicks might as well throw the rest of the season if they can’t beat the Nets.
But THIS Nets team..if healthy, is actually pretty good.
YI is actually a damn good player. The Knicks have no answer for Brook Lopez or Devin Harris.
Yea..overall the Nets played out their asses and the Knicks really did play like crap, but this version of the Nets is not the 2-win team.
i hear you
but are we really going to make excuses for the Knicks losing to what could end up being one of the worst teams in NBA history?
i understand that the Nets are getting healthier, but this is a team that just lost a week ago to a dreadful Minnesota team at home. maybe they’re not as bad as their record indicates, but this would likely still be the worst team in the league, healthy or not. it’s like legitimizing a loss to the Browns because, “hey, Josh Cribbs is damn good!”

Good points, but
Speaking of Minnesota, last night’s loss kind of reminds me of last season’s home loss to Minnesota after MN came in losing like a dozen games in a row. It seemed horrible at the time, but MN then went on a relatively hot streak.
If NJ does something similar in the near future, this loss won’t feel so bad. Of course, that’s a big if.

statistically, yeah, NJ will probably end up near the worst
but I look at them as SIMILAR (not the same) to the San Antonio Spurs team who held the leagues best record in 94-95, but lost David Robinson to injury for basically the entire next season and ended up with the 3rd worst record in the league. The next year they drafted Tim Duncan and well, the’ve been pretty good ever since. Of course NJ isn’t as talented as that Spurs squad, but they have been hammered by key injuries so far.
My point is, no one believed the Spurs were the 3rd worst team in the league when they were. Same with New Jersey.

they do have a nice young core (pause)
i would definitely trade the Knicks’ situation (Gallo, Chan, Toney, Hill, our Lee) for their situation (Harris, T-Will, their Lee, Yi, Lopez, plus a likely top-three pick). but that doesn’t change the fact that the Nets will be lucky to crack 15 wins this year.

have the Knicks ever traded with the Nets?
that would be weird.

agree on the Nets overall
they are or should be better than their record…tho it still shames me to have lossed to them. But I don’t think I can live in a world where we make YI look like a good player…I’m thinking I should end it now. or maybe after my hot pocket! mmmm, pepperoni!!!

Im only ashamed we lost to NJ because of the hometown rivalry
and because some of our top talent remains on the bench regardless of how bad our team is playing.

Brooke Lopez reminded everyone why David Lee wont make the all star game this year. Made him look like a fool. D Lee’s numbers are great but he doesnt get the all star nod because he gets big boyed in the paint by… well…. everyone.
But a lot of that is because
he’s consistently being asked to play out of position against players much bigger than he is because we don’t have a true center.

Maybe
But the stats at 82games.com actually show that Lee does WORSE defensively at power forward than at center.
When it comes to defense, I’m not sure whether Lee doesn’t know or doesn’t care. I’d like to think it’s the former, but I’m just not sure.

Maybe you should give Lee some credit
he actually HASN’T gotten ‘big boyed’ in the paint. He is out of position every night and it doesn’t stop him from anchoring the Knicks. He just held Tim Duncan to 13pts/7rebs a few nights ago. Dwight Howard put up 19pts/10rebs recently against NY…solid line for almost anyone, yes, but Howard has had 12 games over 15+ rebs and 3+ blocks, plus a slew of 20/20 games. Considering that, I would say Lee did a very good job on him. Lee himself double-doubled in one of the Magic games too. He’s not a defensive stopper, fine, and some nights he can get burned, but he has held just as many guys under their averages too
The guy averages a double double and shoots nearly 60% from the floor (.582) often against double teams and with little help from his teammates (they all stand behind the arc). That’s worth something isn’t it?

yep yep
overall Lee is a hell of a player, sure he aint the best defender but I bet guarding those 7 footers every night once he does move back to the four, he’ll be better as a result. People throw around the words “true center”, “pure point”, man where I’m from if you got skills you got skills period. Fuck all that extra shit. He’s got talent and he puts forth the effort.
