a pleasant surprise

that nobody mentioned hill and douglas were 18 feet tall until this photo. why do we even need darko anymore?

shouldn't Terrence Williams

and the Nets’ draft picks be throwing out the first pitch at a Mets game?

usually the secondary teams in the city stick together: Jets-Mets-Nets.

funny that you mention the Islanders

i feel like the Jets/Mets is a big Long Island thing. all of the people i know from LI are huge Jets and Mets fans.

Well

you probably hate the Jets and the Patriots, so you’re OK I guess.

Tho I have no clue how it happened. It could be worse, you could be a Cowboy fan….

by FreeBradshaw on Jun 28, 2009 5:34 PM EDT up reply actions

i think you're on point

although in jersey, those who DO like the nets tend to be giants and yankee fans as well. at least to my eye. there’s no question that yankees-giants and jets-mets go together, though.

jets and mets fans probably stick together

because the jets and mets shared shea stadium for just around 20years

there is no purity in the yankees

i’m knicks-mets-(football)giants… it’s a new york thing, a queens thing, and an original new york thing, respectively.

well

Queens = LI, whether you like it or not.

That’s like living in Harlem and saying I got no love for NYC.

by FreeBradshaw on Jun 28, 2009 2:09 PM EDT up reply actions

nope

queens is to any town on long island as the bronx is to scarsdale new york

didn’t you have to see them analogies on the sat’s

by Barnesgasm on Jun 28, 2009 5:10 PM EDT up reply actions

.......

I aint doin this.

Queens = Long Island.

Saying “I have no love for LI” means you have no love for Queens (county…)

Maybe state of mind means Queens is more a part of the city, but Queens is a county of LI as Suffolk was a county of LI.

Guess that’s why I got 1200+ on my SATs……..

by FreeBradshaw on Jun 28, 2009 5:40 PM EDT up reply actions

didn't mean to actually call into attention sat scores and/or be dickish

just have no other associations with analogies whatsoever. other than the skits they used to do on conan based on how they had analogies on the sat’s that were painfully unfunny.

by the way

i’m a yankees jets fan, which a) is confusing as hell) and b)pretty much makes everybody dislike my fandoms in some way or another

by Barnesgasm on Jun 28, 2009 9:41 PM EDT up reply actions

.

I probably took it a little too seriously at that time, its all good tho….

I actually know plenty of Yankee-Jet fans, and also plenty of Met Giants fans (tho I usually rip on the Jets or Mets just cuz).

I think all this generalizing is bullcrap cuz you can root for whoever you want. I mean there are people who are Cowboys fans or Eagles fans or even Celtics or Lakers fans (none of whom are safe…)

I mean if you are a Jets fan, would you really want to be a Met fan too and deal with their crap? And I can see how Giants fans just don’t want to like the Yankees at least recently cuz of their willingness to buy players and all that stuff.

by FreeBradshaw on Jun 28, 2009 9:57 PM EDT up reply actions

I think the "associations" are generationial

My dad was born in 1953. When he was a kid, the Mets, Jets, Nets, and Islanders all came into existence within about a decade of each other. They were the “new” teams. For people of his generation, most of them either went with the new teams or the old, established teams (Yankees, Giants, Knicks, Rangers). The Nets were probably the least popular of them, b/c they played in a different league from the Knicks (so technically you could root for both) and then when they joined the NBA they moved off of Long Island.

I was born in 1984. When I started following sports around 1991, all of the teams were “established.” The Mets were just a few years removed from their mid-80’s heyday, the Isles had won 4 straight Stanley cups just a few years earlier, and the Giants had been eclipsed by the Jets and then re-eclipsed them. In a way, the Giants were almost the “new” team in the 80’s considering how bad they’d been since the early 60’s. I became a Mets and an Islanders fan b/c those were the teams whose games I went to when I was young, and I became a Giants fan because they played in the first Super Bowl I ever watched and I just rooted for the team from “New York” (I didn’t know much about geography – good thing, b/c if I did I’d be a Bills fan).

Anyway, it just gets annoying when people assume I’m a Jets fan b/c I root for the Mets and the Islanders. Two losing teams is enough, thank you very much. And fuck the Nets.

also

i’m pretty sure that was a mets/yankees game at shea. in knicks colors. you can’t go to .. oh wait… in not-shea… anayhhow, you can’t go there and sport a yankee jersey.

maybe that's why he got injured last year?

it seems to happen to all players with teh Met uniforms on.

Hopefully Danilo doesn’t choke like the Mets when the time is right

those are still technically the home jersey

they just tend to wear the alternates more often. But they still wear the pinstripes pretty frequently.
