The Kincks and Rubio

As we all know, the Spanish sensation Rick Rubio thinks that Minnesota is too cold and maybe he would rather just stay in Spain. Well the Knicksin an attempt to save the NBA from the terrible fate of never seeing Rubio suit up in America, are attemptin to prry him away.

Star-divide

Well the question is , what can the Knick do to get him? Well...

  • just to get the opportunity to draft Rubio the Timberwolves needed to trade away there 2 best guards, so backcourt should definitely be a hot commodity for the T-Wolves. They did draft Wayne Ellington but they would definitely love someone to take the pressure off of him. This would make it seem like  Nate Robinson is the focal point of the deal.
  • Hill should be considered untouchable he has more potential than anyone on the Knicks. Everyone was upset that the Knick didn't draft D'Antoni's next Nash but they may have found his next Amare.
  • There is zero chance that the Wolves want David Lee. They already have 2 Power Forwards who can score well, rebound great, and get burnt on D. And to get those 2 players they had to spend a top-5 pick on Love and trade KG for Big Al, not to mention sign Al to a six year deal.
  • The wolves need a defensive presence in the paint. If they are looking to solve this problem through trading rubio to the Knicks they better keep looking.
  • Given their offensive scoring power in the paint a shooter at the wing would help them alot. Harrington and Chandler and Gallinari can all play the 3 and shoot the 3 well.
  • I just want to take this opportunity to say that Rubiois being a completely spoiled brat and that I would be happy if the Knicks didnt get him as long as Kahn told him that either he could play for the T-Wolves or he could go back to Spain and never come back.
  • The Knicks don't have a pick next year so a future first is not an option.
  • The Timberwolves are rebuilding so they would NEED to get a young'n out of this deal not just a bunch of vets. This could include Gallo, Wil-Chan, Toney, or Hill
  • Chandler just makes too much sense. He is young he is athletic he can play D and he can play the 2, 3, and 4. He is a lot like a young Marion. I love him but it may just be a sacrifice we have to make

So it seems like the ideal package would be sign and trade Nate and Wilson Chandler for Rubio and possibly take on some contracts. Brian Cardinals name has been thrown aroun, his contract expires in 2010. A three way deal would make a lot of sense. The Knicks can send Harrington or Larry Hughs to a contending team said team sends some picks to Minnesota along with the Knicks Package and Rubio heads over to NY. I can imagine the PistonsMagic, or even the Cavs willing to enter this deal if Harrington was in play. I also think that is the Wolves can convince Rubio to stay the Knicks should take a shot at Flynn . The Deal would obviously be for less but the knicks would still be getting a solid young point

UPDATE : Immediately after I press the publish button I hear about a rumored deal of David Lee, Wilson Chandler, and someone else* (wait until the end of the sentence to read the astrisk) for Rubio, KEVIN LOVE, Cardinal, and Etan "expiring contract" Thomas. Read the Astrisk. Kids avert your eyes no one likes to watch a highway robbery.

interesting post

i disagree with your assertion that the wolves would be interested in nate, mainly because i don’t think you can play him with jonny flynn.

and also you’re wrong about hill having the most potential. one word: GALLO.

but otherwise, good post and you make some good points.

About Nate and Hill

Nate is not really gonna fit in with anybody in the league because he is at least 4 inches shorter than everybody, but that doesn’t really matter because you can start nate but you know wat you are going to get
20 points off the bench and a huge spark to your team

Hill has more potential than Gallo because he is stronger taller more athletic and actually was productive in college which is a combination that is hard to find. He has also shown the potential ability to defend in the paint which has become a dead art on the Knicks. In D’Antoni’s system he play the role of Amare while the knicks continue their search for their Nash
However, while Hills ceiling is slightly higher than Gallo, Gallo’s starting point is much higher. At worst Gallo can be one of the best pure shooters in the league. Gallo reminds me a lot of Hedo Turkoglu

if the NYKs get Rubio & Love for that offer, Timberwolves fans will start saying “we were better off with McHale.”

Question..

What are the chances that Rubio > Nate in the NBA

by mightykingcrayon on Jun 28, 2009 2:11 PM EDT reply actions

Well

They are obviosly not good.
I do not have that much faith in rubio he cant shoot and is to skinny to consistently drive the lane so he apparantly eill have a lot of trouble scoring in the immediate future.
he could make up for that with his PG skills but look at him, he is 18, can’t speak english and is alienating himself from his teammates, how do you expect him to be a leader.
yes he can make flash passes nut the streets of NY are full of flashy passers who never made a dime in the NBA
^ Nate is good for 20 off of the bench and a spark to the team, while rubio has the potential to 1-up that i dont know if he will

Are you kidding

Rubio will be much better then Nate. Nate is more then a half foot shorter then Rubio. Rubio has better court vision then anyone coming out since stockton. He can shoot 40% on 3’s last year and has height 6’5"

You don't know that

nate might be shorter, but I bet Rubio can’t block his shot.

Nate at the very least has proven to be a valuable 6th man. Rubio might be able to shoot 40% from the International 3pt line, but that’s more like the college 3PT line.

Is Rubio a Stocking? Jason Kidd? Nash? (well he’s Ricky Rubio…)

But while many think he might be the next great PG to enter the league, Nate has already proven what he can do, and Nate can get better too.

Will Rubio be MUCH better? Don’t know, Nate is a damn good player even if Rubio might have more potential.

by FreeBradshaw on Jun 29, 2009 6:08 PM EDT up reply actions

Look

Nate can be counted on to not only score 20 points off of the bench but also bring a spark to the team and excite the crowd.
I cannot deny that rubio has the ability to excite the crowd by connecting on one of those cicus passes but describe to me how he plans to score in the NBA.
He does not have a consistent jumper and though he is 6’5" he is skinny and weak which will prevent him from driving the lane consistently
dont get me wrong i think that rubio would be a fine player and actually end up being beter than Nate in all likelyhood . Its just that Nate is a Proen commodity.
On the other hand rubio is just a lot of potential and he doesnt seem to realize that in the NBA you have to earn your way. I Think that his demand to be traded from Minnesota shows that he is not mature enough to play in the NBA.

That trade's not bad

I thought Brian Cardinal’s contract ran through 2025, but its actually done after 2010.

Id love to make this trade. Willie Chan would be hard to let go, but I think you do this trade not jus cuz of Rubio but for Kevin Love, who would be an incredible addition.

Obviously the deal has to wait until Lee can be signed and traded, but Id do that deal.

can we

get a link or something to where you heard that rumor?

by gwl on Jun 28, 2009 5:09 PM EDT reply actions

Honestly

while i can attest that i did in fact find this rumor online and i am not just making it up, i doubt it holds much weight.
the Knicks are the clear get rubio the only thing standing in their way would be if the wolves can shut rubio up or if another team can swoop in before the knicks can whip out the bug guns (Nate & Lee)
