Why not Rashad McCants at SG?

He's a free agent, only 24, and played well for Minnesota in 2007-2008, and for Sacramento the last half of 2008-2009. He only had half of a bad season, but he's been hurt, so that may be the reason. He's shown much better shooting ability than any other Knicks SG option, and he gets a good number of steals (1.5 per 36 minutes).

Star-divide

Excluding that lousy half with Minnesota last season, his PER the past two years has been above average. It was 14.6 2007-2008, and 17.2 with Sacramento. His true shooting was 55%. I understand he might be an injury risk, but his numbers when healthy are nothing to sneeze at.

Would make more sense than many of the other players the Knicks have gone after

So of course it will never happen.

What the f$%k is the internet?

24?

If he were 34, Donnie Walsh would be all over him

McCants is a potential headache

Earlier this summer on his (now-dead) twitter page, Rashad posted this question:

just wondering? do u guys think im kina crazy in some way? like a bad boy? its what I hear why teams wont sign me. its funny but i wana know

He pulled that offline within a day or two.

The guy has talent as an offensive player, but he’s one of those cases where you almost think you’d be more interested in his CAT scan or a functional MRI than you are in watching him play. The body language, the odd sulky quality…. Without ever quite getting over the tipping point, he’s a borderline “head case” at all times. Large tattoos on his two arms read “Born to be Hated” and “Dying to be Loved,” and he wants them both to be true at the same time.

He’s not stupid. The guy writes poetry. I like the idea. It’s execrably bad, however. His homage to Garnett is painful to read.

Last year, once he’d earned a deep bench spot, McCants took to being oddly, passively demonstrative whenever he could. Before each half he’d make a big point of being the very last person to sit down on the bench, walking down veeeeery sloooowly to the end of the pine and standing there, sticking out, for several seconds before he’d settle.

(He also, as in my title, has one of the least-inspiring nicknames in sports. “Shaddy.”)

thats intristin

i believe there is a website that archives deleted twitters and accounts. i may be wrong, and i don’t plan to research this.

and also i read somewhere that morris almond has a bit of an ego disorder, so maybe that’s why we haven’t really showed him any love.

McCants was healthy all last year

He just can’t stay in the good graces of a coaching staff.

Mc CANTs

“Born to be Hated”; “Dying to be Loved”, says it ALL guys. I don’t know anything about his upbringing, but I can almost guarantee that he is either a foster kid OR, and I think this is the most logical reason; he grew up with a mom who worked endless amounts of jobs at a time to raise x amount of kids because ‘daddy’ wasn’t nowhere to be found in his kids lives. I may be wrong, but SOMETHING happened to this guy when he was young that pit him against the world and world against him…..

McCan

Aren’t there sports therapists who help athletes dial down the crazy? Maybe he should give himself a more positive name and play well for a team.
