Erick Dampier And The Rockets Split, He Hits The Market Again

Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle is reporting that the Houston Rockets will not clear a roster spot for center Erick Dampier.

Less than two weeks after they agreed on a contract, the Rockets and free-agent center Erick Dampier came to a very different agreement Sunday.

The Rockets will not sign Dampier as planned, with the Rockets’ stumbling start making the short-term move no longer appealing to the team or the NBA veteran.

The Rockets had reached an agreement with Dampier, 35, on a one-year deal Oct. 29, pending a move to clear a roster spot, most likely by trading or releasing second-year guard Jermaine Taylor who had not played this season.

But Sunday, the Rockets told Taylor, 23, they would not move him because they no longer planned to sign Dampier, Taylor’s agent Michael Whitaker said.

So with Timofey Mozgov appearing to be more of a project than we originally expected should we sign Dampier to a 1yr deal? In order to do so we would have to release Shawne Williams or Roger Mason Jr., two players who have yet to see the floor. It couldn't hurt having a little more depth at the center position, hell even Jerome Jordan could lend us a helping hand and with the way our defense has been improving I don't see how even he could harm us. So what say you? Get it done?
