Have we peaked… or piqued?

Went with a fun play on words for my first fanpost, so go easy on me my friends. Hurdle the jump…

Part I: Have we peaked? Basically, I’m loving this run like the rest of y’all for sure. But I can’t help my mind from going to the saying that you’re not as good as you look when you’re at your best, nor are you as bad when you’re at your worst… or something like that.

Obviously our long-forgotten losing streak earlier this year was our worst… and we obviously weren’t as bad as we seemed back then (20-20 vision is a good thing). But with our current streak, is there still room for us to improve? Amar’e is beasting. Ray is playing at an All-Star level. Our fav rookie isn’t playing like a rookie. WilChan is up to nearly 40% from downtown. Even in my wildest fantasies, I didn’t think ALL of those things would happen. Really, the only "disappointment" so far is Gallo, who isn’t playing as badly as many seem to think (HWSNBN that starts with a D).

So to my point. That’s why I think these next two games are simply HUGE. We lose both, you know everyone will say that we played no competition in our streak. Taking just one game avoids that. Taking both? Can you say immediate upper echelon (fancy words for a fancy team right?). Which leads me to…

Part II: Have we piqued? To me at least… it seems the national media has almost ignored us thus far. We’re on a pretty impressive streak considering both how we started the season and where we’ve been for what feels like 100 years, not the 10 or so it’s been. And yet, we’re still totally overshadowed by the likes of Boston, Miami, Dallas, etc. You KNOW David Stern is smiling with the Knicks success and having NYC fully interested in bball again, why minimal focus from elsewhere?

So why haven’t we received more attention? At least part of it is probably still a hangover from the mainstream media thinking we failed this summer (ie No Lebron). As for the other parts, no idea. We’ve quietly snuck into some top 10 rankings… but I’m surprised we’ve had so little attention. Again, at least to my eye.

Soooo… THAT’S what makes these next two games absolutely and totally huge. Lose both, not nearly the end of the world… but it’s definitely a few steps back, like it or not. But WIN both… can’t even put it into words and won’t try. So what say you? Let’s show everyone that a) we haven’t peaked… and b) everyone’s curiosity and interest in us SHOULD be piqued.
