I really hate to be the parent around here. I also really hate that this fanpost is about Melo (partially.) But what I am seeing is a bunch of miscommunication getting everyone worked up. So I'll try to clear up some things that I have noticed. Jump if your knees permit, crawl under if not.
First myth - The majority of P&T doesnt want Melo here.
This is so false its laughable. I see very few people who dont want Melo here at all. Probably less than 5. What the consensus seems to be IMO is we dont want him here at the expense of the team. Meaning if we have to trade 2 or 3 starters for Melo, its at BEST a sideways move. Trading, lets say Curry, Walker, and AR for Melo would be fantastic. Trading, lets say Curry, Gallo, and Fields/Chandler for Melo would be a fuckin disaster. If we can make a trade for him and keep our core intact (Stat, Triple Felt, Landry, Gallo and Chandler, ill even add DWTDD to that) then we win easily in that trade. Even giving up 1 of Chandler or Gallo would be digestable, sad, but understandable. Waiting until FA would be a dream scenario. But dont tell me that because I dont want to gut the team for Melo, I dont want him here. Its not true. And dont tell me that if Melo becomes a Knick by trade, all those who were against a trade would detest his presence. Cause they wouldnt, they would root just as hard for him as they do for the current players. Well, except maybe bucketsandcents (light jab, dont get upset buddy.)
Second myth - Gallo can do no wrong on P&T.
This one makes me Dzi. Yes, Gallo is the P&T pet. This is because last year, when no one else on the team gave a FUCK besides Lee and Wil, he produced. He stepped up. He hit big shots. He showed he had that NY swagger that our players need. We took to him for that, admitted. But that DOES NOT MEAN that everyone here just throws blinders on when discussing him. You cant keep playing that fucking card, especially when his detractors on this board seem to grow daily. I personally think all the hate for him is due to the fact that Melo supporters feel he is the reason the trade hasnt happened. Yall seem to think if Walsh would dangle Gallo, Melo would already be here. Whether thats true or not, Gallo's a fuckin Knick. Until he isnt, show him some damn respect as a true fan would.
Third myth - We're some backups away from contending.
The fuck outta here. Even if we did find a backup to spell Triple Felt, and a banger to play with STAT, we aint winnin the chip this year. Even if we somehow did, there's no way anyone here could honestly say they knew it was comin at this point. So IMO, pushing Melo away to chase some backups isnt really the move to make. Contenders tinker, playoff teams (which I think we are for sure) look to become contenders before they tinker. We arent at the point where we know what the Knicks are. So making any kind of move isnt smart. As we approach the deadline, Walsh will know whether he should go for the homerun (Melo) or ride this out and make offseason moves (tinker with depth and try to nab Melo in FA.) Either way, put those title hopes on ice fellas and ladies.
I could keep going, but Im tired. Last note for the Melo haters.....He just went 14-21 against Orlando for a very efficient 35 points. That either means our defense is better than Orlando's, or he isnt as inefficient as some believe. Keep it classy in the comments please.
