I have just watched Miami dismantle the Lakers and have a few thoughts on how to approach the upcoming game agains the Heat in the context of our run to the playoffs.
If we ever hope to advance beyond the first round of the playoffs we must develop our current assets and also limit wear and tear on our starters. . I am personally satisfied enough with this team so that I could tolerate a blowout loss here and there knowing that we were developing new talent and saving Amar'e's knees for when we really needed them. The Playoffs and beyond.
If Anthony Randolph, Extra-E, Mozzy and Andy Rautins had all played 20 - 30 minutes each in the last Miami game, what do you think our chances would have been against the Cavs the next night? I think we win that game. Maybe we get slaughtered a little bit earlier in the Heat game and by a few more points. But had we played it that way we probably would have been one and one. In the Celtic game imagine if AR guarded Kevin Garnett for 20-30 minutes. Do you think he would come out of it a better player or just get totally humiliated by KG? I think maybe both. AR may have the perfect attitude and body type to give KG problems.
By judicious resting of starters we will be in position to win games where we may have been underdogs, Especially, in the second game of road trips we would be able to put a more rested team plus a more developed bench on the floor. If we follow this type of program by the time we reach the playoffs, assuming we get there, we will have a deeper more battle ready team without having traded for anybody.
The upcoming Miami game is the perfect opportunity for the world to get an extra heavy dose of AR, Mozzie, Extra E and even Rautins. I would like to see them brought in early even if we are getting slaughtered. Let's rest our troops for the game with Orlando which we have a much better chance to win and give the fine people of South Beach the show that they deserve.
