Back up PGS

The knicks need a back up pg. what about Sergio Rodriguez? I know he has a contract with real madrid but i do not know the details of it but he would get my vote considering he played well for us last year(at least in some games) and he can run the offense. I believe he was also pretty good at the pnr. So what do you guys think?

Here is a list of pgs that have 1 year left on their deals that are back-ups.

Star-divide

I do think telfair could help this team out.

Another guy I would like to see here is rafer alston i just do not see how you can go from leading the rockets to the playoffs one year to.....?

Acie Law?

Earl Boykins?

Mustafa Shakur?

Jason Williams?

Curtis Jerrells?

Leandro Barbosa ? he played pg in pho why not here?
Ronnie Price ?

Mardy Collins?hahahahahahahahah sike!

I havent heard much else from any sites concerning this topic, have you guys?

LOL

I think Sergio is happy back in Spain. His contract is not an issue, The Knicks are the only NBA team that do not have to buy him out. But it is also an issue Sergio is making 2.8 mil and Donnie is probably looking for a league min pick up, plus Sergio has a two year deal so, we would have to guarantee him at least two years.

Barbosa is twice the PG that TD is.

He can attack the rim and make plays for others with beautiful interior passes. I think he would be a great fit for this team, being able to shoot the 3 as the 2 next to Felton, and also being able to run the show with Felton on the bench. He has had tremendous success under D’Antoni in the past. I would love to have him on this team.

Unfortunately, he has a player option for 2011-2012, which I would expect him to accept. So he most likely will not be coming off the books this offseason. Pretty much eliminates him as a possibility. Must stay open for Melo.

Barbosa signed for 5yrs $34mill.

Don’t think he’s an option

We need to swing a deal for Pooh Jeter and Jason Thopson from Sacto

Solves both the backup big and PG problems. With Cousins, Dalembert, et al in Sacto, Thompson hasn’t gotten / won’t get much burn.

Scouting report on Jeter:

+ Undersized, quick point guard who can create off pick-and-roll.

+ Average outside shooter but has quick release in paint. Well-regarded teammate.

+ Lack of size a detriment defensively. Can pressure ball.

Experienced (several years in Europe and D League), last year of contract, inexpensive, good PnR PG. All we need is 12-15 good minutes per night.

Don’t know what we’d have to give up tho. Not sure Bully would be enough. But it’s a dream deal if we can pull it off.

EARL BOYKINS!

I NEED the double-digit midget in blue and orange. He would be a metaphorical and, perhaps, literal sparkplug (as I believe he could be physically screwed into a cylinder head and provide internal combustion for a variety of engines) for the 2nd unit offense.

A scoring guard that can fit into your pocket

isn’t all that valuable in the NBA.

If the 2nd unit needs scoring

At about 10-12 minutes a night, for his equally tiny one-year contract… I could see the value there. But I am, admittedly, a fan of the guy.

The second unit doesn't need scoring

It already has DWTDD. Who is a much better defender as well.

RAFER ALSTON

No reason to make deal — Rafer is a free agent and I’m sure he’d be happy to sign for the veteran minimum. He did a great job with the Magic when Jameer Nelson was hurt, leading them all the way to the Finals in 2009. Would be nice to have a hometown guy in the line-up. But I think our most pressing need is another big to platoon at center with Turiaf and Mozgov, someone who’s focused solely on blocking shots and getting rebounds.

Agree with this

Rafer’s most likely to be able to step in and do the job.

yea i would love alston here

but i like what he did with the rockets as well, for bigs how about steven hunter he did a good job in pho under mda what do you think? fyi we still have our mle as well so we have like a 5mil dollar cushion

by frank8 on Dec 8, 2010 3:05 PM EST up reply actions

No we don't

The MLE is for teams over the cap, which we are not.

by flossy on Dec 8, 2010 3:15 PM EST up reply actions

it is

but if we make a signing that will take us over the cap we can use it. Its complicated but look it up

by frank8 on Dec 9, 2010 1:25 PM EST up reply actions

yea im like 90% certain

i know i heard it from a very reliable source, i have been trying to find the link all day

His last two teams all but begged him to go away

and the Heat really needed him. That’s a bit concerning
