From the Bobcat's hellhole, another rescue mission

Larry Brown said it perfectly. After Felton helped the Knicks beat the Bobcats in back to back games, his comment about his former point guard: "He’s died and gone to heaven going from me to Mike.", was not only spot on, but also may have been a bit of an understatement. Now that im officially ready to label Larry "Devil" Brown as the most overrated coach in the history of the NBA aswell as the worst coach in the NBA atm, its time to rescue another promising talent from Brown's clutches and turn him into an all-star at the position (Center) we most need.

Enter Tyrus Thomas, a third year player out of LSU, who is extremely talented and extremely frustrated. Luckily for us Knicks fan, im sure there is nothing more he would want to do than join his former teammate, Raymond Felton in heaven and guide our favorite team to a championship. While Thomas is a bit undersized for a true 5, he has an amazing 7'3 wingspam, explosive quickness and leaping ability and can bring an interior presence that we truly lack. In his past two season, he has averaged 10.5 ppg, 6rpg, and 1.5bpg while only playing 21 minutes per game. He can also shoot free throws (80% this season), finishes really well, gets to the line, and has an ever-improving outside jumpshot.

Thus, it continues to drive me slightly crazy that Larry Brown chooses to start Nazr Mohammed over Thomas this season, when Mohammed, flat out, sucks. Everytime Thomas plays starter minutes, he produces. So far this season, he has 4 games where he had 29 minutes or more:

Oct 27th vs Dallas: 29 minutes -  20 points (8-15), 6-7 ft, 6 rebounds

Nov 15th vs Minnesota: 30 minutes- 20 points (8-11), 10 rebounds, 2 stls, 4 blocks

Nov 20th vs Pheonix: 29 minutes - 22 points (9-13), 6 rebounds

Nov 24th vs NYK: 33 minutes- 26 points (11-20), 11 rebounds, 4 blks, 3 assists.

Yet, he continues to see limited numbers off the bench. And then we wonder why the Bobcats continue to struggle with all the talent that they have. Larry Brown can't coach, period. And unless we somehow pull off a trade to get Melo-Nene and Billups from the Nuggets, which would be amazing cause it covers everything we need, id love to grab a young, up and coming big man that gives us exactly what we need.

Other notes:

- We don't really need Gallo anymore, as much as i love him, and as much as it pains me to say it. His main contribution is 3 point shooting, but with Chandler, Williams and Azubuike coming back, we have plenty of threes to go around. Id trade him for Tyrus Thomas in a heartbeat.

- Anthony Randolph is a scrub. Great talent, but his basketball iq, and well, his overall iq seems to be somewhere in the 40's. Ive never seen a dumber basketball player.

- Since the Knicks have been playing so well, ive decided to help them out myself by sending Chris Bosh's DNA to a lab for testing. Once the doctor's confirm that he is in fact more Raptor than human, he'll sent back to extinction in Canada.

- Walt Clyde Frazier is a pot head. Anyone who watches knicks games knows this. Him and Turiaf smoke mad blunts together, according to recent reports.

- Lineup i want for the Knicks next year: Raymond "penguin-man" Felton, Fields, Melo, Amare, Thomas with Chandler, Buike, TD and Turiaf off the bench.

- My love for "The Brains" Mozgoz continues to grow as recent reports have shown that one of the reasons for the Knicks recent success is that his mom makes the whole team warm borchyt before every game. His Russianness has got to pay off somehow.

-Love you Knicks

Two things

1) Thomas was a FA last season and voluntarily signed a tender to stay in Charlotte. He seemed happy there, and still does.
2) I WILL NOT TOLERATE BAD THINGS BEING SAID ABOUT NAZR

Sooo many things wrong with this

For one thing, as the Rooster mentioned Tyrus Thomas just got a fat new contract last summer. In fact, that’s why the Bobcats couldn’t afford to keep Felton—because Tyrus Thomas will be making more than $9mm in 2015. Great investment!

Second, and most importantly: “LSU alum, 7’3” wingspan, explosive leaping ability…" Hmm, that reminds me of someone, lemme think… oh yeah, ANTHONY RANDOLPH.

You can call him stupid and/or a scrub all you want, but guess what? AR’s career numbers are similar to or better than Tyrus Thomas, pretty much across the board. And Randolph has barely touched the peak of his potential, whereas Thomas has had more than twice as much time in the league to show his stuff.

Basically, Tyrus Thomas is an older, less upside-having, more expensive version of a player we already have. No. Thank. You.

by flossy on Dec 7, 2010 3:35 PM EST reply actions

Disagree

Yes i was wrong about Tyrus Thomas’s contract. Thank roto world for confusing me. Ive changed that in my post. Yet, my point remains the same. Larry Brown isn’t letting Tyrus play enough. And yes, while AR and Thomas have similiar physical characterisitcs, Thomas is a way smarter and more efficient basketball player that is about to breakout. I remember last year when everyone was telling me that i was crazy when i told them that Felton would be an all-star with the Knicks and now look. Same thing here, Thomas is everything the Knicks need and more. AR will take years to develop, if not longer. Thomas is about to breakout if given more minutes. Id trade Randolph for him in a heartbeat.

by Daniel Zimnikov on Dec 7, 2010 3:39 PM EST up reply actions

Or could it be

That there is actually a reason that in five seasons, Thomas has only once averaged more than 22mpg? And that Chicago let him go? And that he’s still stuck on the bench behind Nazr Mohammed? I’ll give you a hint: he’s not exactly a mental giant himself…

Seriously, what on earth makes you think that “Thomas is a way smarter and more efficient basketball player”?? More efficient at what? Their scoring efficiency numbers are virtually identical. Randolph is actually a considerably better rebounder. And oh yeah, Randolph is three years younger and still on his rookie contract.

by flossy on Dec 7, 2010 3:49 PM EST up reply actions

Umm it is not just Larry Brown

Every coach TT Boy has ever had, has pretty much decided he is a knucklehead. He has always shown flashes but that’s the problem. Everytime he gets any sort of extended run, his value diminishes. The only reason he is still in the league is because he is always about to breakout if given more minutes. the truth his Thomas neither has the work habits, or the desire to be a good player. He is a freakish athletic talent I will give you that, but he will never amount to more than a coaches albatross.

by Robert Currence on Dec 7, 2010 4:54 PM EST up reply actions

Also!

Because we have Wilson Chandler (a very streaky three point shooter), Shawne Williams (who has had all of several good games in a row), and Azubuike (who is a total question mark at this point), we don’t need Gallo anymore?!

Good grief.

by flossy on Dec 7, 2010 3:39 PM EST up reply actions

Lol

Are you kidding me. Chandler is as good a 3 point shooter as Gallo and can drive which Gallo cant. Buike is a career better shooter from the 3 point line than Gallo. Williams can shoot the three, aswell as Felton and Fields.

by Daniel Zimnikov on Dec 7, 2010 3:42 PM EST up reply actions

Chandler is NOT as good a 3pt shooter as Gallo

please man..I think you had the best intentions with your post but you’re starting to seem a little delusional.

And Azubuike is a no one right now. A pipe dream. He may never suit up so I wouldn’t act like he’s better then anything until he does.

Shawne Williams may make that happen too.

Seriously

I think Chandler and Gallo are both very, very valuable players, but saying the two are equally good long-range shooters… we’ve really gone through the looking glass now.

by flossy on Dec 7, 2010 3:50 PM EST up reply actions

also you can never have too many 3pt shooters in this offense.

We just won a game against the T-wolves where if they didn’t shoot as well from 3 to keep it close, they lose.

Its just flat out annoying that people still harp on this "Gallo is a one dimensional shooter" bullshit

he’s not.

Urge anyone who still thinks that manure to go and Tivo or whatever you have to do, go back and watch every single Knicks game this year and tell me he’s just a loafing one dimensional shooter.

IF anything, he just needs to shoot better from 3. Really…that’s it.

by Rorschach44 on Dec 7, 2010 3:42 PM EST up reply actions

Thomas makes way too much money for waay to long to even be interested there.

If we’re going to add the final piece to the team, I’d rather it be that Carmelo person (tho I don’t like that idea either…)

Id want them both

Cause a starting lineup of:
Felton
Fields
Melo
Amare
Thomas

Would str8 up own

by Daniel Zimnikov on Dec 7, 2010 3:43 PM EST up reply actions

it would probably also be str8 up be never happening

since it costs too much to stay under the cap.

I'd trade for Gerald Wallace

He’d be the Marion-type player to make the Knicks a contender. I’d trade anyone for him except Felton and Stoudemire. Gerald Wallace misses Felton.

by mindfeck on Dec 7, 2010 4:05 PM EST reply actions

Love Gerald

But he’s injury-prone and will probably age poorly. I wouldn’t want him for longer than his next two seasons.

curry and chandler would work

Jordan has tons of terrible contracts on the team. That trade would save him like $12 million next year

by mindfeck on Dec 7, 2010 4:18 PM EST up reply actions

Sorry I love Will

But Chandler is not the 23 year old version of Wallace. Last year Wallace averaged like 18ppg, 10rpg, 2spg and 2bpg. Those are all estimated but still, he’s way better than Chandler. If the offer was really available, I’d trade Chandler and TD for Wallace

by WSD on Dec 8, 2010 12:14 AM EST up reply actions

Well...

If you compare their fourth seasons in the NBA, WIlson actually looks like the better player. Of course, Wilson hasn’t played his whole fourth season yet. And Wallace was only 22 for his fourth year, and he made a big leap at 23, so the comparison isn’t air tight.

Still, Wallace is pretty fantastic. But with another 2 years an $21mm left on his deal after next year, the point is moot unless Carmelo is definitely out of the picture, in which case we’d probably be better off trying to resign Chandler for like $7-8mm over 5 years.

by flossy on Dec 8, 2010 8:05 AM EST up reply actions

Whole point is moot because of his contract

He’s not worth giving up anyone of value for.

And your analyses of both Larry Brown and Gallo are wrong. Besides being more than a shooter, Gallo is our best shooter on a squad that requires such talents. And Larry Brown is a very good coach who has had phenomenally untalented teams most of his career. He might be a a bit rigid, but he’s forgotten more about basketball than most will ever know. His Detroit team had no business beating that Laker squad.

Focus less on the forced jokes and more on the substance of your post next time

This is Tyrus Thomas’s fifth season, not third. It’s hard to take you seriously when the very first thing you mention is incorrect.

by 100% dundee on Dec 7, 2010 4:17 PM EST reply actions

to be fair

Tyrus Thomas is having is best season and is currently better than LaMarcus Aldridge. He should be getting more of Diaw’s minutes.

by mindfeck on Dec 7, 2010 4:21 PM EST reply actions

I Agree

with the idea that we need a rugged rebounder down low who has an innate ability to space in a fast-paced offense and finish at the rim, in addition to blocking shots on D. I just don’t think that player is Tyrus Thomas. I made a case for Gasol before, but have recently been rethinking who would be the best bargain in this scenario. Serge Ibaka of OKC is one player, albeit a tad undersized, who I think would add a Turiaf-esque presence on defense with the bonus of an improved offensive skill set. Another possibility could be Taj Gibson.. I have a difficult time seeing Chicago cutting ties with him, as he stepped in beautifully at the PF until Boozer returned. That being said, Ibaka and Gibson, both somewhat undersized for the C position, are nonetheless gems who imo the Knicks should consier

by Globo Gym on Dec 7, 2010 4:28 PM EST reply actions

love to have Ibaka

but he is just coming into his own in OKC and they have zero reason to move him.

We need to scout guys like that BEFORE they are in their breakout season. Taj Gibson may be interesting though, given that Chicago really doesn’t have minutes for him with Boozer healthy.
Course, Boozer or Noah could get hurt at any time so having Gibson is terrific insurance for them.

tyrus thomas ???

look if we are gunna trade gallo it s gotta be worth it .. tyrus thomas is WORSE then gallo it would make us worse . i wouldnt even consider tyrus for the knicks .. hes a BUM. id rather trade Gallo for Anderson Varejao now theres something to consider. he mite fit and would be a decent starting center

we do need a pack up pg for spot mins

will minny take stat and feltom for telfair?

hahahah just kidding please do not eat me alive posters and toasters

by frank8 on Dec 7, 2010 5:04 PM EST reply actions

I like Tyrus Thomas

but he really aint what we need at the center position because he’s too small….pause, we could use him at the 4 to back up STAT but we got Chandler and AR for that. Tyrus would be a better option as a back up IMO but why give up quality pieces for someone we’d use as a backup? The need really isn’t there to justify giving up any pieces of value.

Like Thomas but he is not what we need. Too small for a C

We need more of a player like Tyson Chandler or Nene for this system MDA runs. An athletic big man who can bang down in the paint, from time to time can get his own shot, and be able to defend most bigs 1 on 1 and REBOUND. Tyrus is just to small in the long run.

Larry Brown is a great coach, But dude is still a asshole in IMO.

And Gallo isn’t one dimensional, he’s two dimensional, he hits 3’s and disappears for games at a time.

Could Landry Fields be our Derek Jeter? Things that make you say HMMMM!!!!!!
STAT FOR MVP!!!!!!!

I didnt like the Cylde smoking pot joke

He’s above that (no offense to any here that do). But Clyde is just always in the groove, he doesn’t need anything to help him. Plus he’s a huge fitness freak, so that’s out of the question. Lame joke man. Clyde would be disappointed

its really not too detrimental to your health, and can enhance performance. When I did muay-thai a lot of guys would smoke up before training…I did sometimes, it definitely relaxes you and loosens your muscle tension so you improve your reflexes

Maybe im out of the Norm

but i dont like Tyrus thomas, he to me seems like a polished but still inconsistant anthony randolph. If i go after a center, Im going to get someone who is physically fit for the position. Im tired of being undersized at center. : /
