Reality check-Are we really 2 pieces away from really good?

It's been so, so long since well, you know. As we stand right now maybe we are a .500 team, maybe slightly better.. The plan seems to be play this out and get a max type salary player in the off season. Melo, or Paul, or something like that. Can the plan change? Should it? Great centers are hard to come by(yes, I know a genius statement), but what if we could get a good one, who fits our system(shot blocking, run the floor, good defender and athlete), but isn't thought of in the higher tier. For example , what would it take to get JeVale Mcgee? Underutilized in Washington, and is not going to be a 20 point scorer anywhere, but can board , block, defend and run like crazy. Would some combination of Walker,Douglas,Curry('the contract) Mosgov be enough? This sight is full of back up point guard talk, and I agree, one is certainly needed. The question I have is how far would those 2 pieces take us? I know CP is great, but how much better can he be than Felton is playing right now?I know Melo is a scoring machine, but scoring certainly doesn't seem to be our problem, facing bigs does. So is it crazy to try and give away our chips to try and develop something more this year?
