Around SBN: Jerry Sandusky's Wife Tries To Run A Reporter Over

Just Because I'm Bored

I'm going to throw out a trade possibility.

So, y'all will have heard by now that the Celts are looking to trade Ray Allen.  He's 34, and it won't make sense to sign him to another deal.  There's no point, for them, in letting Allen's deal expire because they're not getting under the cap this year under any circumstances.  They're looking for another, younger guard.

To me, Igoudala comes to mind.   But what if the guy they wanted was Nate Robinson?  True, there's no guarantee Nate would re-sign with them next year.  But they'd get his Bird rights and they'd be able to offer him more than anyone else.  Or, they could let him go if he's not working out.

Not say I like the idea.  Renting Jesus for half a lost season makes no sense.  But what if we could get rid of Jeffries contract?

Observe: Ray Allen for Nate Robinson, Jared Jeffries, and Al Harrington.

The Celts get Robinson... they also get Jeffries to bolster their suffering defense.  Yes, they take on some additional salary next year - but they'll still have their midlevel.  They may have to buy out Harrington or someone else on their roster to make it work.

For the Knicks, if the playoffs are out of the realm of possibility in a week, it gives them precious salary cap space - space to re-sign Lee, space to sign a point guard.  And it doesn't even add to the 2011 cap.

And who know, Allen might actually help them in the short run.

Thoughts?

i dunno

i think Boston would probably overvalue Shuttlesworth, given that they won a title with him and they’re still a contender this year. plus, i think the Celtics are afraid of screwing up their chemistry both on and off the court by adding those guys.

i like it from the Knicks perspective of course, and i guess it’s at least plausible.

They'd have to be very high on Robinson

to do this trade – and willing to go over the mid-level to re-sign him.

i

sounds good

Harrington or maybe hughes would definitely be a celtic buyout though.

knick management would have to figure that this season is over if it keeps going the way its going, and i think we would all agree with that assessment.

Dudu, allen, gallo, chandler, lee? Hill and TD off the bench with a smattering of Bender or Harrington when the game is stagnant/over. do it up!

On a related note

I could still see the Knicks (with improvement) catching Milwaukee and Miami for the 8th seed; the bucks are not good and just had a hot start, and miami is thin as hell; if wade misses any significant time they are done as dinner.

Chicago, toronto, charlotte are probably out of reach, barring injuries or miracles.

by Ray Smuckles on Feb 1, 2010 9:55 PM EST up reply actions

True

that ground can be made up quickly when you’re gunning for the 8 seed. Milwaukee has been playing better lately but that could change. Also, the Heat have been stinking it up and that’s likely to change as well. Anything can happen but I think the Knicks chances are not looking so good right now.

knicks don't have chances when all they do is make appearances

we play milwaukee on friday though.

I'd rather have absolutely nothing to do with that disgusting team....

unless they’re taking Jeffires AND Curry.

Even then, I’d rather Nate go somewhere else and succeed. I don’t wanna hate N8…and that’s what I’d do if he had to wear that ugly uniform…

You've got to be very careful if you don't know where you are going, because you might not get there

by FreeBradshaw on Feb 2, 2010 8:12 AM EST reply actions

It would be easy to love N8

If he was playing defense for the Celtics. Just sayin. Anyway, if they were to trade him, he’d have to approve it. If he approved a trade to the Celtics, what would they say about him? Just speculatin’, not hatin’.

by fuhry on Feb 2, 2010 10:50 AM EST up reply actions

they would say

i wish we still had nate because duhon is a disgrace to the uniform.

that's a disgrace right there...

If I had the money, I’d buy a Celtics uniform for a doormat, make sure I stepped in a whole lotta mud, and wipe that shit all over that ugly uniform

I don’t want to hate N8.

I hate the Celtics and I’d be forced to hate N8 if he went there.

I'll just

plus one on that hating the Celtics thing.

I don't think Harrington needs to be in this deal

I feel like Boston might pull the trigger for just Nate/Jefferies. Adding in Harrington would probably tank it, as Rivers doesn’t want to kill the chemistry. Nate requires some getting used to, but Jefferies would fit right in. I dont think Boston would want Harrington AND Nate though. Besides, Harrington is still an expiring for us.

Ray Allen is too much of a class act to do any whining either. I’d have him on my team any day. With him also among the higest paid players, the salaries might matchup to work?

Harrington

would be necessary to match salaries. They could always buy him out if they didn’t want him.

also... let's cut this shit out

cus there are probably 20+ teams that could make more intriguing offers for ray allen than we could/would.

all due respect

I wouldn’t offer shit for a 34 year old expiring Ray Allen.

by fuhry on Feb 2, 2010 3:23 PM EST up reply actions

I still think of Ray Allen with the Bucks

But on a team in dire need of leaders, role models and hard workers, I would absolutely bring him in if the price was right. If we can dump Harrington or Jefferies, I’d be fine with that. Sad to lose Nate, but hell, D’Antoni doesn’t like him anyways.

I would LOVE to have Allen on this team for the rest of the year

Ive always believed that attitude is contagious, and getting a pro like allen will only help in the development of our young guys (specially gallo).

by gbaked on Feb 3, 2010 10:46 AM EST up reply actions

they need a versatile big defender and a scoring backup pg

we have those. true there are better ones, but at least JJ and Nate are the right categories that the celts are looking for. 20+ teams dont have that, and how many of them need a 34 year old jump shooter? Allan Houston is just a phone call away.

by Ray Smuckles on Feb 2, 2010 8:20 PM EST up reply actions

Naw

’cause that would take too much PT away from Garnett, he might sulk on the bench

by fuhry on Feb 2, 2010 10:49 PM EST up reply actions

brilliant

and we can resign allen next year for the vets minimum, and team him up whatever stars we sign
