Nate Robinson Wins Third Dunk Contest Title

In a contest seriously lacking in creativity, Nate Robinson at least brought some energy. Congratulations to Nate.

51 percent was suprising

i told my brother who i was watching with after voting about 20 times that i will stop. He didnt want me to so i told him if Demar wins by 51% i will pay him 300 dollars. I freaked out when the lady said with 51%.

But anyway Nate needed someone to go against. There was no energy because there was no competition. I think we will see more high profile players next year.

LeBron, Kobe, and Wade

Need to show up next year and bring back the Slam Dunk Contest. LeBron taking his name out of the running was a big letdown after the hype he started last year.

Congrats Nate

That being said, is it just me, or was this whole shit wack? I mean, the whole Saturday.

not you, the whole thing sucked.

3pt contest was the best…and even that sort of sucked cuz Gallo didn’t seem to have a chance.

Bye, AP :(

My entire feeling about All-Star Weekend so far is "Ehhhh."

If anything, it’s more like AHHHHHH if that Suns/Cavs deal goes through.

I'm realizing that a switch has come

I used to always want to catch the Slam Dunk Competition. Seemed there were more people other than a couple rookies and benchwarmers competing. It was also less restricted. Dunk. Vote. Move On.

I don’t know what it is these days, but they cannot get any interest from high profile guys. When did these guys start looking down on the Dunk Contest so much?! I understand you grow out of it, but did you see Kobe’s face when asked about Shaq’s proposal? And every year you get guys saying they won’t do the contest because they want to show they are more than just dunkers… Really? Can you be any more egotistical?

We also get the same reaction and excitement from the same dunks year in year out. Two-handed windmill. Seen it. Bounce off the floor windmill. Seen it. Off the backboard-bring-ball-down-low-reverse-jam. Done every year. Jump from the free-throw line (or a step just in front of the line). Yawn. I’m dunking over/around a table, or teammate. Great the first time, but now its old. Blindfold dunk. Been done too. People react to these dunks like they haven’t seen them before. And it always comes from the guys saying “Yeah, I got some new moves for the contest. I been working on some shit.” No you haven’t. But you don’t need to. They give out 9s and 10s for anything. The only thing that’s changed is the lame set-ups. I don’t care what you do before you dunk.

The best part of the Saturday i the 3PT contest. You either have it, or you don’t. Its entirely simple and will not change other than the players involved. And its entirely gripping when you watch a guy hit a hot streak and ring off like 8-9 in a row. And no one has ever gotten a perfect score. There is ground to be broken.

I ragged on Pierce being invited to play this year. He won. Not the point. The point is the 3PT challenge can get the veteran and high profile players to take part. For that reason, I’m glad he was involved. Billups too. Nice mixture of veterans and younger guys.

There’s not alot of new dunks left. Star players don’t want to have the pressure, people who do poorly in the dunk contest get clowned. Why take the risk? The thing abou the dunk contest is that players do so many incredible dunks in game situations that in the controlled dunking environment of the dunk contest it just isn’t that exciting.

i think marketing has a lot to do with it

if lbj, kobe, etc do badly..miss some dunks, fail to make it out of the first round, etc..they probaby see that as damaging their brand…remember how lbj didn’t want that video of him being dunked on released? so i guess they have more to lose than some rookies/bench players

I dunno about that....

It kinda seemed that way for a while…then Vince Carter did his thing. He basically ruined everything for the contests to come…but Dwight Howard had a nice few contests.

I think it was just who was in it this year. Nate’s been in it a while and he’s got nothing new. Gerald Wallace was in it before but like this time, did nothing.

Shannon Brown I was surprised with…I know he can fly buy I guess he’s got no creativity.

Derozan as pretty good too.

Pretty sure Kenny Smith or Barkley brought this up, but none of these guys are freaks of nature like Dwight Howard or Vince Carter. Nate is…but he’s been in too many dunk contests for him to be a ‘novelty’ anymore.

For me, it was all about who was in it this time. None of these guys are ‘stars’.

Bye, AP :(

Iguodala in '06 was the best I've seen in 15 years

even better than Vince in 2000.

i love Nate, but it was a travesty that he beat out Andre that year.

Ewing with the step...YES! and the foul!

I usually forget that one, probably cuz I never saw it live

The dunk that nate did

in 06 was absolutely sick.

If I remember correct, he jumped in the air, put the ball between his legs, threw it off the backboard, caught it mid air, and dunked it.

It just took him like 25 times to do it. Once he moved from the 3point line to the freethrow line, he made it.

maybe so, but those are still weak excuses....

thats just how it is I guess…
