yet another trade proposal
only a few days left to try to trade jared jeffries. the mavs are obviously in win now mode and they have erick (why does he need both a c and a k?) dampier's contract which is not guaranteed for next year. so my idea:
david lee and jared jeffries for erick dampier.
i know we give up our best player and a guy who has become a solid role player for an injured big man who doesnt care that much about basketball, but it seems at least realistic if we're serious about shedding this contract. no one seems to want nate enough or a deal would've been done by now and odds are that we wouldnt retain Lee this summer anyway. dallas would become a real threat to win the title (kidd, terry, dirk, butler, haywood, lee, beubois, and matrix might be the best 1-8 in the league) and we know cuban isn't scared to throw around some money so maybe Lee waves his no trade and goes there in hopes of resigning for a good amount.

The Mavs have no place for Lee.
Their frontline is now Haywood ©, Nowitski (PF), Butler (SF). Lee comes off the bench?
How many minutes would he get?
Do you really think he would wave his “No-Trade” clause for this?
That’s assuming Dallas would even pull the trigger on this. I don’t really see why NY would either. I think Walsh wants to keep Lee next year and beyond since he is kinda good. Yeah, we’d like more defense out of him, but lets see what happens when he DOESN’T have to place Center. We do have to give up Jefferies, but I think trading Lee would only happen if we were able to get something more than an expiring contract.

what if Lee wants to win?
They use Dirk at C at times as well.
Lee off the bench, they could do a
Dirk
Lee
Matrix
Terry
Kidd
type thing. Lee would be an incredible scoring PF option off the bench for them.
I think they could use Lee so much…maybe they get a 1st round pick out of the deal?
Bye, AP :(

horrible
man thats just turrible (charles barkley voice) why would we trade our only allstar for erick dampier? david lee is a fall back, if we cant get two max guys, we can resign lee(who is already an allstar) and try to sign another allstar (joe johnson?) or if we get rid of jeffries we can sign two guys, and give lee a back loaded contract that gets him big money once curry’s contract is off the books
<follow me @theinfamousazad
The whole point of the trade
is to give up Jeffires.

This doesn't make any sense.
It’s not worth trading Lee just to get rid of Jeffries.
Plus it probably doesn’t work due to Lee’s BYC status. Plus it looks awful to the fans. Yuck.
it does work
i tried on the trade machine before i posted. i know the trade feels “dirty” or something, but i still dont think david lee is worth 10-12 million which is what he wanted last summer and he’s become a better player since then so i’m sure he wont settle for less this summer. i dont think a guy deserves that much money for being really good on one end of the floor.
I think Lee has endeared himself in NY
of course we really want to move Jefferies, but we also want to find a way to improve the team, rather than just tank the season.
Whatever Lee’s defensive downfalls, he has brought an excellent offensive game and a ton of hard work has gone into him becoming among the top rebounders in the league. I really do think his defensive flaws are magnified because of the setup of our frontline though. But also, there are plenty of players making $10+ who aren’t defensive specialists: Zach Randolph, Peja Stojakovic, Richard Jefferson, Michael Redd, Carmelo Anthony, Dirk Nowitski just to name a few whos salaries are in the Top 30 Highest Salaries.

everyone you mentioned other than melo and dirk is really overpaid – we traded zbo because of that and im sure we’d all hate if we had peja, redd or jefferson on our team right now. i guess my point is basically this – when you have a great team in place already you can afford to bring in overpaid players through a trade or retain players you have for more than theyre worth. but when youre building a team up you have to be really careful how you hand out money because before you know it you’re over the cap and you have no flexibility to make changes. as an example: theres no point being a team like washington was with gil, butler and jamison at full strength a few years ago. that team was going to max out between 45-50 and never really contend because they were built foolishly.
of course they are overpaid
but they are all making over $14-15 Million a year. Lee won’t be seeking that much, but given how many guys are into that double digit thresold, David Lee looking to join it is not an unfair desire to me. I’d have little issue with him making $10-12 Mil.
Sure, defense wins championships, but offense gets you paid. The combination of both is the rarity. And I’m not convinced that Lee’s defense will remain awful when the Knicks get a legit Center.
