That was intense. I came back from lunch and found out about everything that was pending when I left just by reading through the comments on the trade thread. That was fun.
My analysis :
Well...OK. I'm glad it all happened because it shook things up.
I wanted to believe in Hill, and I do think he'll be a good player, but I think this was the right move. I doubt he'll be a big impact guy. It's a risk.
And it kind of hurts to lose the draft picks. Also a risk. But if the Knicks are decent in the next couple of years, it's not awful. They lose the 2012 pick unless it's top 5, and they might move down in 2011 from where they end up, or they might not. It's a risk, but it's not as if we're relying on Eddy Curry to bring us into the upper echelon. We're relying, really, on Donnie Walsh to put a good team together, and he's got an awfully large amount of cap space to do it.
What I really like about this deal is that it gives us the flexibility to sign a max deal and keep David Lee. We have a lot more options now, and I think that's good.
What I also like about this deal is that we picked up Sergio Rodgriguez, a point guard. An actual point guard. We now have another option other than Duhon.
As for the Nate trade, well, talent for talent, I guess we got fleeced. But it was time for Nate to go, I think. He's a guy that I think has some awesome specialized skills, and he might add something great to the Celtics but as a core guy, I just don't see it.
The thing I don't like about the combo of the deals is that it takes away Hill and doesn't add any size. We now will probably have to start either Chandler or Harrington at the 4. Plus, adding Rodgriguez and House without dumping Duhon means we might see less of Toney.
My guess is that Harrington will continue to come off the bench, with Chandler starting at the 4 and McGrady at the 2... And Duhon will continue to start at the 1 with Rodriguez backing him up....
Though for continuity's sake they could start Duhon/Chandler/Gallo/Harrington/Lee, then bring McGrady, S-rod, toney off the bench...?
Jeez, I don't know. I sorta wish they had been able to get Dorsey or Tyrus Thomas. Oh well. At least it's something different.
Can you please, please, just drop Duhon in order to fit all those ex-celtics onto the roster? I'd rather keep Cardinal.
