Thoughts on the New Knicks (after 3 games)
McGrady - even without his old explosion, McGrady is stil 6'8". he can still handle the rock, he can still shoot, and he can still pass. And I noticed him doing that rebounding thing too, which some Knicks are kind of allergic to. Injured and rusty, he looks about as mobile as Gallo, who's healthy. I can see from his demeanor when the game is not going well, or has been lost, why people get pissed at him. He doesn't get dour and angry when the game doesn't end in victory. This can rub some people the wrong way, but if they guy actually helps us win games, I don't really care how he handles losing. Actually, I think his demeanor helps him perform in the clutch. Of course, we haven't actually won any games yet, so we'll see. I still think he's helping us and should stay with the team next year if we are unable to sign some other 6'8" guy.
House - I like House because the guy has a thing he does - he's figured out his role in the NBA. I see House as a guy you can bring off the bench cold, throw him the ball and he will very likely hit a turnaround three or some other unlikely shot. Nate, I don't think, has really found the role that will work for him, and I think he will, or it's possible he won't. House knows how to make himself useful, as long as you don't rely on him too much.
Rodriguez: You might call him 'Spanish Fly' (a bit sleazy for me) or 'the Inquisition' (I like it). I like to call him El Gravy because whatever he can provide at the point guard position, it's gravy to this trade. I think this guy just needs the chance to play and be secure in his minutes. He's fast, a bit mistake prone, but I like it because he's got balls. I think with minutes those mistakes will fade and the shooting touch will firm up. He may never be the best point guard in the league but he's waaaaaay better than Duhon. I feel secure knowing he's in the game. I feel like he'll get something going. And I don't really see the poor defense they've been talking about. He has lapses, but he makes up for it with speed and steals.
Walker: This is why I think the Knicks got the better of this trade. I don't know if this guy will amount to anything, but he was a very highly regarded player who had an unfortunately timed ACL tear that pushed him from possible lottery pick to mid-second round, and then hurt it again, I think. But the guy looks pretty well healed, and was stuck on a Celtics team with Ray Allen and Paul Pierce and all these other guys. So this may be another guy who will be good given a chance. And unless he's traded, he's actually under contract for the next two years for barely any money.
***
D'antoni has fully handed the point guard reins to Rodriguez which is a good deal. I think he is using House too much as the backup point guard. I would rather see him as a backup shooting guard and let McGrady play the point when he's in --- or let Toney do what Toney do. House will shoot practically every minute he's on the floor, and that's OK - I just think he should be out there a little less. Time to work Toney in. Also time to buy out Harrington, but it's tough because they really don't have anyone with his size... though he doesn't play big. I had reservations about Tyrus Thomas but I kind of wish they had made that trade because they really need another rebounder out there. But I'm not talking those non-knicks. They're dorks, all of 'em.

Sergio is the best pickup of these guys
this kid is real good. Thing is, he never really got a fair shake everywhere he’s been.
18pts 5 boards and 6 assists? 2 steals?
Gotta say, him and David Lee is ridiculous as a combo. Its a shame really no one else aside from maybe House and probably WillChan, is fit to run a true up tempo offense.
I hate to say he’d be a great backup. Cuz of the Knicks had some real runners around him..including D-Lee and Chan?
Sergio’s got a future here ya’ll. I want the, to re-up this kid. We got a fing steal.

Good Point
Srod should be getting a lot of burn in order to see exactly what we’ve got. He played Brandon Jennings pretty well the other night. He looks like he should be able to excel in the SSOL. The only bad thing I see is that it might force DWTDD to the bench but I could see them playing well off each other. If he works thats one less piece we need that we need to acquire and it’s terribly clear that this system doesn’t work without a good pg who can get it going on the fast break.
Training Camp
I’d luv if he sticks around and the team has a full training camp with him running the point full time. I think like someone had mentioned in a diff thread, over the last two years now, everyone has adjusted to Duhon’s pace.
It’ll take time for everyone to catch up to this kid’s pace… but I think a full training camp of them all together would be HUGE and rather exciting for next year…
right on w/ house
i believe he knows his role well.. its what he did in boston too.. and d’antoni should transfer his minutes to backup sg.. with developing td at the point. yea we’d be small.. but the whole daym team is small.. so why not. but of course only do this lineup change depending on the opponents.
the knicks need to keep up with sergio.. hes got the “court general vision” dant has been looking for … so we need to get up to speed asap. like free said, we have will and the milkman that can run.. but i also think gallo can too. he’s got to get over this rookie wall he’s been on.. and if his elbow isnt 100% that gives even more reason to run n gun wit the rest and take it to the rim. ive noticed he’s posted up a little bit more, so i know thats what they preaching to him, id just like to see it more.
id be down with resigning tmac for the cheap(hes on record for saying that) but only if he proves for the rest of the season he can ball at 100%. with the system we run.. im not sure he could go 82 games
Worst trade ever: Darko for Brian Cardinal
If we’d given Darko a real chance, like we are giving these other guys, we’d be competitive. As he’s shown repeatedly, he’s a decent defender, he’s unselfish, and I’d much rather watch him than Al Harrington or Jared Jeffries. By the way, when’s the last time a team had no center, and only one power forward? That’s the Knicks.
Did you see his quote from his first game with the Timberwolves?
“I was trying to focus on breathing,” Milicic said. “I was just focusing on breathing so I didn’t die.”
Awesome. I actually hope he does well.
I really wish he got a beter chance with the Knicks. I think he would have helped us to get a couple more wins. Certainly I think it would have helped Lee play PF and changed a dynamic. I also think we would have been treated to an amusing personality. But, well, of course… it didn’t play out that way.

For real..
i said that’s the one the Knicks got hosed for. Not the 3 draft picks they gave up. Darko.

Trailblazers with their cursed center spot??
Honestly, this would have been the perfect stretch to give Darko a chance. We seriously needed a big man out there to stick on Bogut, Perkins, etc…
Who else noticed the +35 that Darko posted in his first game with the Twolves… in 19 minutes. That’s right, +35 in 19 minutes in a game they lost by 2.
To answer your parting question...
We like to call ourselves the Blazers. No Trail, and no longer Jail. Just Blazers.
As for Sergio, he’s awesome. He’s unassuming, a really pleasant person and a hell of a player. He’ll frustrate you with some passes, wow you with others and never be THE reason for a loss. He can help you lose, but won’t ever be the cause.
We miss him, ‘cept McMillan of course, but he has his own problems. Glad that Sergio is happy. You guys are welcome and we will be watching more of your games. Not that it’s needed, but good luck in FA this summer.
Now if you really want some action, get the Spanish Connection. Rudy and cash for DLee? Just kiddin’.

agree with your assessment completely. Less house and a little more TD, cause we know what eddie can do and need to see if TD will DWTDD when given the reigns at pg. That’ll probably happen once the playoff chances have officially set sail.
didn’t know The Fish Walker was under contract for another 2 years, i get the feeling he will more than prove his worth if he stays healthy and a knick.
we will probably get outrebounded and outscored in the paint every game for the rest of the year. no doubt a legit 7 footer or two will be joining us this summer.
