Game Thread: Knicks vs. Kings- 2/9/10

Sacramento Kings at New York Knicks, Feb 9, 2010 7:30 PM EST

Good evening, friends! It's another high-flying night of Knicks basketball, as the Kings pay a visit to the Garden, bringing precocious rookie and king of the Jews Omri Casspi with them. This will be the Knicks' last game before the All-Star Break rolls around, so let's hope they can notch that elusive 20th win (sigh) before the week off.

Come by the thread at 7:30 to talk about the game and share Passover stories. I always direct you to the opposing team's SBN blog because we've got some great ones, but I really mean it when I urge you to check out Sactown Royalty. It's so terrific I get a little choked up just talking about it.

Let's get it, Knicks.

Nets are on the road against the Cavs

Nets are up 23-15. What do you think Vegas odds would win you if you put down 100$ on the Nets this game?

by Osborn on Feb 9, 2010 7:27 PM EST reply actions

You'd get 2 for $100

EST +5 hours is hard work sometimes...

by UK Knick on Feb 9, 2010 7:32 PM EST up reply actions

this is actually true

looked it up. the line i found had Nets +2500, meaning your $100 wins you $2500. the highest listing for Nets tix on Ticketmaster is $1000.

by latrell chokewell on Feb 9, 2010 8:05 PM EST up reply actions

Heh...

Cavs pulled back to within 1 at the end of the quarter & nearly got the lead on a TO with 1.4 to go.

by ibnyc on Feb 9, 2010 7:57 PM EST reply actions

I know exactly what you mean.

He thinks he can score 40 points every night.
But some nights he actually can.
Against this defense?
Sure.

great work by hill there

getting position, 1 dribble, draw the foul. nice!

by latrell chokewell on Feb 9, 2010 8:10 PM EST reply actions

im really starting to like his game a lot

if he gains 10-15 pounds this summer dude is gonna be tough to handle

by ibnyc on Feb 9, 2010 8:14 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah man, he has a motor like verejao.

He just needs a little more weight and a mean streak and he’ll be a pick and roll monster; offensively and defensively.

by Osborn on Feb 9, 2010 8:15 PM EST up reply actions

Al could post these white boys up all night.

Hill should get looooooong minutes tonight. He looks like the Tasmanian devil.

by Osborn on Feb 9, 2010 8:14 PM EST reply actions

i was just thinking that i should give you props

you were right on him. in my defense, i thought they were trying to make him play the 1. dude’s good but he’s no PG.

by latrell chokewell on Feb 9, 2010 8:23 PM EST up reply actions

probably not a true one

but a 6"5 combo guard is not bad.

Its when you’re a 6’1 or 5"8 combo guard like Ben Gordon or Nate

I think Jeffries name needs to be El Chupacabra

Not to be needlessly speculative

but does anyone think that if we had (been able to) draft Evans and Brook Lopez over the past two year, we might be a playoff team right now?

by Stargazey on Feb 9, 2010 8:32 PM EST reply actions

why…why bring that up? it hurts….we might have been, lopez is a great player

by Kupe on Feb 9, 2010 8:34 PM EST up reply actions

maybe

I think we’ll be A-OK with Gallo and Jordan Hill.

I don’t think they’d be any better then they are now, nor the Kings or Nets for that matter.

I think these guys along with Will and possibly Lee fit better with HWSNBN, or possibly just Steve Nash

Rectum? Damn near killed em!

by FreeBradshaw on Feb 9, 2010 8:35 PM EST up reply actions

i might just be a homer, but i think gallo’s ceiling is higher than brook lopez’s.

by ibnyc on Feb 9, 2010 8:37 PM EST up reply actions

Thing is, I can’t even be too down, as much as I love Lopez and his game because I do think Gallo will be a better Ray Allen at some point in his career.

by ibnyc on Feb 9, 2010 9:03 PM EST reply actions

A young, less shootery Kobe Bryant. Same height, Kobe might be a little more athletic but I see some similarities.

by Stargazey on Feb 9, 2010 9:05 PM EST up reply actions

Seems like more of a pass first

much less developed shot version of D-Wade.

Just that big guard with PG handle and vision, but the ability to attack the rack at will.

Rectum? Damn near killed em!

by FreeBradshaw on Feb 9, 2010 9:05 PM EST up reply actions

hey

who was it who said they hated to see al hitting first quarter threes?

point taken.

by Seth on Feb 9, 2010 9:19 PM EST reply actions

After last season

I thought Al may be one of the few we would hold on to. But buckets has just killed any affinity I have had for em. The guy just refuses to pass.

by MetsKnicksRutgers on Feb 9, 2010 9:24 PM EST up reply actions

playing this way got him 10 mill a year. hard to break habits that lead to that kind of reward.

by ibnyc on Feb 9, 2010 9:25 PM EST up reply actions

Eh

I would say it is much more of bad FO that gave him 10 million. Zach Randolph, Troy Murphy, Elton Brand are all guys that got massive deals between 70 and 100 million. But, yes I am sure it’s a tough habit to break, although I am surprised Dantoni puts up with it.

by MetsKnicksRutgers on Feb 9, 2010 9:29 PM EST up reply actions

Meant to add

after “70 and 100 million” and didn’t nearly deserve it

by MetsKnicksRutgers on Feb 9, 2010 9:30 PM EST up reply actions

Completely unrelated to anything but I was playing NBA 2K10 today

and the Knicks have the same ‘Overall’ rating according to them as the Orlando Magic and the New Jersey Nets. And when I simulated the season, the Nets went to the finals but were beaten by the Thunder.

I also traded JJ for Hasheem Thabeet and Eddy Curry for Bobby Simmons.

It was wonderful.

in the bucks game they made a big deal of Jenings having a bad game at halftime and Lee made fun of him

Tonight on the radio 5 minutes ago they were joking about how Evans has Gardenitis and has been virtually a non-factor tonight.

Haven’t we seen this story a million times?

by Rigsay on Feb 9, 2010 9:54 PM EST reply actions

They told Lee Jennings said he wanted to make a splash at the garden

(while Jennings had 3 at the half) Lee uncharacteristically said, yeah well he better start hitting some shots. Which he did….

by Rigsay on Feb 9, 2010 9:57 PM EST up reply actions

?

the guy with 25 points, 8 rebs and 6 assists?

by enron4515 on Feb 9, 2010 9:56 PM EST up reply actions

jordan hill

played 5 good minutes in the first half. which got him zero burn in the second half.

I'm just gonna say

The kings have gotten more lucky bounce offensive rebounds in this game than I would have thought possible.

by fuhry on Feb 9, 2010 10:04 PM EST reply actions

Also

never, never run a post play for jared jeffries. never. never ever do it. just don’t do it.

by fuhry on Feb 9, 2010 10:05 PM EST reply actions

Who's this big white goof

that doesn’t box out and plays no defense and complains after every call?

also though

Tyreke Evans is pretty damn good.

Ugh, I hate the Kings so much more now

by Rigsay on Feb 9, 2010 10:12 PM EST reply actions

this team has hit rockbottom

this is the 3rd time i’ve said this this week

by Rigsay on Feb 9, 2010 10:17 PM EST reply actions

still

good D, yet another bouncy rebound right over all the Knicks heads.

by fuhry on Feb 9, 2010 10:19 PM EST up reply actions

bounces are excuses

the Kings played D down the stretch and boxed out and grabbed offensive rebounds while the same inept Defends (Lee, Al and Nate) stood around watching

by Rigsay on Feb 9, 2010 10:20 PM EST up reply actions

Gallo

was rebounding well tonight, too bad he got hurt, though D’antoni would never have put him back in anyway.

by fuhry on Feb 9, 2010 10:22 PM EST up reply actions

losses to

what in the

FUCK! is dantoni doing during the gd timeouts!? two times in a single game and we come out with a fuckin airball by duhon and a 27footer from jeffries/???? i am pissed the helll off. i am scared becuase these lame ass plays after timeouts are starting to become a trend…smdh

by semsemma on Feb 9, 2010 10:24 PM EST reply actions

and

david lee is standin around wit his thumb up his ass while rebounds and kings are flyying by him. what happened to tenacity? lunchpale workaholic? the entire team aside from wilson chandler deserves a wet willie.

how many points do the kkings have to score in the fourth quarter before the knicks start playing SOME TYPE OF defense. yea some loose balls bounced away. but that has nothing to do w/ the lack of poise and toughness the knicks have. this team has lost all credibility of the “hit u in the mouth, oak, mason, ewing, chris childs 1-2 punch in the face” desire to play ball.

this game had me ready to throw my droid ( one of the negatives of watching the knicks on your phone) smh

by semsemma on Feb 9, 2010 10:31 PM EST reply actions

its official

Just 11 more losses until we can finally consider this season a wash. But that was inevitable and bound to happen. Epic fail NYK. :(

by renovator on Feb 9, 2010 10:36 PM EST via mobile reply actions

What makes me so sad

is that there’s no pick… No reward for sucking and just handing the team over to TD, JH and Dino.

by Stargazey on Feb 9, 2010 10:36 PM EST reply actions

If it's any consolation

Donnie would probably screw up the pick anyway.
