Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Let the Cowboy Ride off Into the Sunset

Its been commonplace to talk about the Summef of 2010 and how some teams may use their cap space to sign TWO players to max or near-max contracts.  Lebron/Wade, Lebron/Bosh, Wade/Bosh, Lebron/Amare, etc., we have all heard the combinations.  NBA.com has an article contrasting between teams with solo stars vs championship teams with duos and such.  Its a good perspective check the article here.  The topic is brought on by a quote courtesy of P&T's favorite Avatar/Predator, Chris Bosh

Star-divide

"I was just looking at what people say and it's like, 'Chris is going to go here and play with him, or this, this and that.' I'm like, 'Wait a minute,' " Bosh said. "I feel like I should be built around. And maybe that's just my ego talking, but I feel that I'm a very good player in this league and I'm only going to get better. So … maybe we should be getting somebody [in Toronto]."

Add this to the list of why NY is better off NOT pursuing this clown.

So as not to assume, do the Knicks fans really want Chris Bosh?
Yes, the Knicks are desperate for frontcourt help and this guy is tops.

I go option 4.

I think we’d all be pleasantly disappointed with him. He’s basically David Lee with more developed offense. Or a pussified version of Amare Stoudamire + David Lee. Something like that.

..also, he’s going to want a max contract. 90% sure of that. Is he worth it? Absolutely not.

But if he’s sitting out there..and they get HWSNBN…I don’t think it really matters a great deal on Bowsh’s dowfall…HWSNBN is that good, so Bosh could work.

HWSNBN and Amare would be my ideal 2, hopefully with Amare agreeing to not take a max deal ( and re-up Lee)

i also went #4, but not for the same reasons

personally, i don’t think that we’re getting two max guys. there are too many teams with cap space, and i don’t even think that donnie walsh really wants two maxes.

so, if we can’t get HWSNBN, then IMO Bosh is basically as good as it gets. even though i hate him. i don’t trust Wade’s or Amare’s durability, and i don’t think any of the other guys (Johnson, Boozer, Gay, etc.) are worth a max or even fit the Knicks.

say what you want, but Bosh is nearly a 7-footer who has a lot of range and athleticism offensively. and even mediocre defense from his position is leaps and bounds ahead of what we have now. if we don’t get HWSNBN, Bosh is not a terrible pickup.

Raymond Felton

Would be a very nice under the radar pick up for us. He would be a solid starting point guard because of his ability to run the floor and shoot te ball. It would also allow Sergio to slide into a very nice backup role. This is not meant to be knock on Sergio, but we do need a lead guard who can consistently put up 15 points.

Imagine this scenario

you get 15pts and 7 assists from Felton, and 8-8 from Sergio in relief duty on a nightly basis amounting to 23-15 production from our point guards, would be nice.

Felton would be a good pickup

Hes a solid all-around PG. Might even be able to get him for pretty reasonable price too.

Even if we don't go after Felton

You think Donnoe would try and do a sign and trade with San Antonio for Tony Parker? When healthy he’s got 5 gears of speed and would absolutley have a career rebirth in this offense. That would be an exciting pg duo of the French Connection and The Spanish Inquisition.

If we did this, it would most likely cost us David Lee

which could hurt our rebounding. but i could see this scenario play out if they are happy with the free agents they added, assuming one of them is a big man.

I'm scared of Tony Parker

For a guy whose game is predicated on speed, he’s noticably lost a step after playing deep into the playoffs for so many years and spending summers on the French National Team. Sick game, solid dude, would love NY, but I think his best years are behind him. If he was a court vision guy like Nash, I’d say go nuts, but he’s a speedster with declining speed.

excellent

I like Parker, but he is at the stage of his career where you start to turn him to mentor a PG to replace him. He is a scoring PG to and the last couple years, injuries are creepin on him. Thats why San Antonio drafted George Hill. Parker is a prime guy who we would overpay for and he wouldn’t end up worth it. Thats not a knock on him.

I forgot to to mention

We should use our 2nd round pick to draft BYU’s stud point guard Jimmer Fredette. The guy is Steve Nash like with his 3point shooting and his ability to pass the ball. He’s from upstate New York and would absolutely thrive in our offense. He plays in a run and gun offense in Provo Utah. He’s lead his team to top 15 status. That way we can have Tony Parker help mentor Fredette as we bring him along.

Clyde pronouncing that would be a reason to draft him alone!

I say go young in free agency

Bosh is young, athletic and can still get better. Is he worth the Max? I don’t know…

But he’s right along with Joe Johnson, Amare, or anyone else so if you had to give the max to someone other than Lebron or Wade, Bosh would be my choice.

Plus the other guys on the squad are still young — Sergio, Gallo, Chandler, DWTDD, Walker – but don’t play up front.

I think you would have to team Bosh with another PF/C that plays D (Tyrus Thomas?)…and you would have a good lineup for years.

Yea I like Bosh a lot

I know he’s pretty unpopular around here, but he’s the best pairing for an Alpha Dog I can think of. When Coach K was asked what player he was most impressed with on the Olympic team, he said Bosh without question. Thats pretty strong praise for a team that stacked.
