Lets play a game called build the roster for knicks!!
So I figure everyone seems pretty tired of talking about this season, because honestly there isn't much to talk about. Except, how Al Harrington should join the cast of extreme makeover home edition because of the bricks that he lays!!!! But with all my of my extra time at my job i put together a list of free agents for 2010 and 2011. I did not list everyone available but many players who can potentially make a difference. There are alot of big names as well as some quality role players on that list! What do you guys think?

Alright now we're talkin
Of the guys in the 2010 free agents category, the one I think most likely to be undervalued is…. Motherfucking Travis “Don’t Call Me Bo” Outlaw
I have no idea why this guy has been trade bait for such a long time. I guess because the Blazers had a glut at SF, but I’m a huge fan of his. 6’9", 25 years old, a 6 year vet (what?!), long(pause), athletic, can shoot the J and shoots a decent percentage. This guy is perfect for a D’Antoni system, particularly because he made 3.6 mill and will probably command equal or less money in this market.
Dude’s last name is Outlaw! Gangster!!

I like Outlaw, I think he could really just take a step up in his game just like Sergio. I don’t worry about his injury history much….now that he’s not on the Blazers..that omen should be gone.
Master of the squeegee
Outlaw would be a good pickup, but he's kinda a mental midget.
His BB IQ isn’t that great, but hes quality athlete, good exp, CLUTCH in 4th (2nd option behind Broy) and can pretty much do it all in spurts: rebound, blocking, steals.
Just needs to work on consistency, overall D(rebounding/man-man) and his handle.
He’s kinda like a young TMac in some ways.
OSU '06
Trade for Gerald Wallace!!
Lotta intriguing names there
I’ll look at the “parts” type players
Joakim Noah
Ray Felton are really nice options. I think Felton could be a dude taht takes the next step in a Pringles offense a la Nash.
Tyrus Thomas, I though Hakim Warrick was out there too? He’d be a good option.
Definitely like the Travis Outlaw idea
Brendan Haywood would be real nice too.
I think the big thing is..just get that one star player. Should HWSNBN come here..I think just him signing will bring a mass exodus of players here.
Master of the squeegee
Thinking outside the box, here's a few "alternative options"
A) Boozer, Joe Johnson, and Raymond Felton: Boozer gives us the size upfront that will take pressure of David Lee to do it all himself; Johnson, who has experience under MDA, would give us the versatile swing man we haven’t had for a long time; Felton gives us a starting point guard who can give us 15-7 on a nightly basis (he’s a younger, more athletic, higher upside version of Mo Williams) and would allow Sergio to be our high energy pg with 8-8 contributions off the bench (and a combined pg total of 23pts and 15 assists per game). Plus, I think we would only have to assign one max deal in 2010 to make this happen.
B) Sign Carlos Boozer, Marcus Camby, and Joe Johnson; then do a sign and trade deal with the Spurs where we send them David Lee for Tony Parker: Boozer and Camby would give us a nice athletic physical presence up front for defense, rebounding, and low post scoring. Joe Johnson would be our versatile swingman. Tony Parker would be our lead point guard who can give us some championship leadership and provide us with 17 points and 7 assists a night, while Sergio can come off the bench and give us 8-8; the two would combine for season averages of 25-15. Plus we’d have the French Connection and The Inquisition on the same team!
"I guess I'm gonna fade into Bolivian." --Mike Tyson
not a fan of Camby…great player, too many injuries…Boozer is going to be overpaid in this year’s FA market, but we definitely need a big man. Noah this year, and a max guy (HWSNBN or Wade), then Horford in 2011, bring back the Florida connection
Camby has lost his offensive game.
Plus hes old and slowing down. Dunno if he can handle run and gun.
OSU '06
Trade for Gerald Wallace!!
that isnt the first time ive heard bringing Camby back as an option! I agree
I think honestly that spurs dont mind dealing parker away, mainly because of the bromance they are having with George Hill. Will David Lee give them what they want tho? Im not sure, dejuan blair seems to fill the void that david lee will fill.
Camby is mad old
Regression is gonna happen soon. Let’s have it happen elsewhere, I’d say.

Those rosters are a 5-8th seed and a first round exit
Unless you make the Parker trade, which I don’t think would ever happen. All average to below average team defenders.
For 2011 Im a big fan of Marc Gasol
So maybe we get HWSNBN and bosh, when we dump fatboy curry we pick up Marc!!!
Yo don't laugh
Goran Dragic can play. He’d be a guy to look out for

When D'Antoni left
I thought Kerr was an idiot. After Dragic and this season, I realized how wrong I really was…
nice?
better than duhon, but idk if i trust him as the starter.
as far as role players to compliment the getting lbj and bosh
jj redick, camby would love to end his career in NY (w/ a vets minimum) and maybe a shannon brown..
2011 (id go after cp3 with curry money) but since he’s not listed marc gasol, troy murphy, and maybe rodney stuckey or delonte west
<follow me @theinfamousazad
Yeah i didnt see cp3 on the list on ESPN. but i think he is a FA
and I couldve sworn Dwight Howard has a player option for 2011 too, so potentially he can leave in 2011. Anyone know for sure?
If someone starts a
“Bring Back Channing Frye” Movement, I will find you and punch you in the face.
Yea word up
He had a fluky first half. He’s still the same soft bum he’s always been.

(**puts up dukes)
I wouldn’t be against bringing Frye back. Just as a part.
Not a first option of course, but I think he could play a role, as in a 3pt shooter off the bench. Maybe more
Master of the squeegee
We’re not gonna have Al Harrington to chuck up 3pt bricks (at least I can pray that we won’t)
We’ll need someone to “replace” him.

yes steve nash can give people the wrong idea!
he makes players around him better, thats why im not so sure about stoudemire!
Another out of the box thought
Depending on what happens with the Wizards and what happens these next 20+ games with Curry, we could trade Eddy Curry for Agent 0; then we go out, sign Rudy Gay, Carl Landry and Joakim Noah for 2010. We could also do a sign and trade with Atlanta where we send David Lee for Al Horford. I would also suggest that we use our second round pick to draft BYU’s star point guard (who can shoot 3s and dish the ball) Jimmer Fredette as our point guard of the future (he’s from upstate New York and would absolutely thrive in MDA’s system. I am a San Diego State Alum, BYU is our rival, so I watch a lot of their games. This kid can flat out play. Any who, if we did this, then our team would look like this: Fredette, Arenas, Gay, Noah, Hordford as our starting 5 with Sergio, Chandler, Walker, and Gallo coming off the bench. We would have size and athleticism all across this team plus we’d have guys who can all capably handle the ball, drive to the basket, and shoot. We would be able to play defense and rebound. Sure it’s not immediately a sexy roster, but I would venture to say that this roster would flat out be able to win 50 games in the Eastern Conference.
"I guess I'm gonna fade into Bolivian." --Mike Tyson
damn, I forgot, Landry would also come off the bench too
"I guess I'm gonna fade into Bolivian." --Mike Tyson
Good roster, but is that enough to put us in contention?
Orlando, Cleveland and Boston look better than that this year. And if chicago gets wade and bosh…..i just dont think we match up
It is definately a start
I also believe it would leapfrog us passed the Celtics and possibly the Hawks. We would become as deep a team as both Orlando and Cleveland but we would need another piece or two in the following seasons to get passed them.
"I guess I'm gonna fade into Bolivian." --Mike Tyson
i think Landry is the most underrated player in the league
Carl that is. his PER numbers are legit (Amare-like), and he’s a really productive player.
Ewing with the step...YES! and the foul!

Didn't Malcom Gladwell write an article about Carl Landry?
But yes I agree about Landry
"I guess I'm gonna fade into Bolivian." --Mike Tyson
I like the idea of bringing in Felton and Haywood
Felton is a very solid PG and it doesn’t seem like there is a heavy market for him. Haywood might be a bit tougher to sign since he has been playing very well for Dallas. pair those two with a max guy like TKfA and do we have money left for Lee? I don’t run numbers.
As for Camby, he is hard not to like. Yeah injuries give him a rough reputation, but these last few years he has been mostly healthy and he goes apeshit aroudn the paint grabbing everything pause and blocking everything else. if we could land him for the Vet’s Minimum, I don’t se how we turn that down.

young core
douglas, gallo, chandler, walker, serge all 21-23 yrs old. lee is only 25 yrs old and an all-star. it’s nice to know that once the garbage is brought out to the curb this offseason, walsh will have many options at his disposal, including a young group of up & coming players all on very team-friendly contracts. (and i’m sure lee is staying in NY and will sign for a “reasonable” amount).
so even if “plan A” falls through, there are a TON of directions donnie can go in. and curry’s monster contract becomes closer to an “asset” with each passing day.

definitely.
I am pretty confident we will have a solid summer too.

i am too!
and i think you can pretty much book joe johnson as a knick, i just worry about overspending there. great player, would LOVE to have him, but not a “MAX” guy in my mind, hopefully we don’t go nuts with either johnson or lee’s $$$.
curious to see how things play out with mcgrady. assuming he is healthy i’d love to have him back on a team-friendly deal, but i feel johnson and mcgrady might be redundant on the floor.
is plan A falls through (or bosh doesn’t want to come here) i kind of like the boozer/johnson/felton/lee scenario mentioned above.
anyone have thoughts on Joe Johnson handling the pressure of NY?
Atlanta is a big city, but they feel like a smaller market team…. Can Johnson handle the inevitable scrutiny that comes with being #1 on NY?

by Chris Child's Fist on Mar 4, 2010 1:36 PM EST up reply actions
probably
as long as johnson isn’t paid MAX money, and isn’t in a situation where he is the only semi-big name on the team, i think he will be fine. i can’t believe how many people out there (mostly fans of teams that have no chance of signing him) bash his game. to me he is actually a little underrated and i think he is a very nice piece to a winning puzzle. just at the right price.
I agree he will need help
He doesnt have the ego of bosh, wade or HWSNBN, but with the right supporting cast he do alot of damage. I think although he does very well in atlanta, he gets wasted cuz of the amount of guards forwards that are in the rotation.
Joe
I like Joe Johnson. I also really DON’T like HWSNBN and REALLY don’t want him. His requested “number change” only increases that feeling. If he has an ego in Cleveland without winning yet, what would happen if he comes here?
Like someone else said somewhere, we have good young parts that I think will flourish once much of the current trash is thrown out. Add a Joe Johnson and a big who plays D… we’d look like:
C – TBD (No offense needed, just some Camby-ish clone)
PF – Lee
SF – Johnson or Gallo/Will
SG – Johnson or Will
PG – Sergio (who would absolutely thrive with a full training camp in D’Antoni’s system)
That would put us in solid playoff contention and wouldn’t even use our full cap space this year. With Curry departing next year, CP3 would look great in the orange and blue.
A good number of these guys are restricted....
so any offer can be matched….
Of course I’d make a play for LeBron… probably Bosh….and don’t forget Kobe Bryant has an early termination option after this year… with the new collective bargaining agreement coming up, max salaries / length of contract may go down. Kobe might be better off taking a max deal after this year in the long run… plus, he loves D’antoni and likes New York…. and would love to show up LeBron… and would love to win a championship without Phil Jackson….. Just sayin’
Barring that, I love the idea of stealing Joakim Noah from the Bulls. I’d go after Brendan Haywood. If that doesn’t work, I’d take a shot at Tyrus Thomas. If we can’t swing that, I’d go after Camby on a one year deal. If none of that works,…. well, that would be shitty.
Its hard to imagine kobe in a knicks uniform
and we all know how we plays like he is at home in MSG, but the injuries are starting to catch up with him. No way he leaves LA. We do need a solid big man, so we can shift Lee to PF where he belongs. My Championship roster
Brendon Haywood
David Lee
HWSNBN
Joe Johnson
Raymon Felton
Bench
Galo
Chandler
Rodriguez
Noah
Landry
DWTDD
Walker
that’s too many player for Pringles to use….
Like what your thinking there..but Pringles goes 8 deep…9 is unheard of. Probably helps out as far as finding bench fodder to maintain the 12 minumum, as well as get the best 8 players possible.
Looking at that..I’d leave off Lee and Joe Johnson..probably sub Landry in for Lee (for money purposes as well..they can’t fit all a that)
Haywood
Landry
HWSNBN
Chan/Cock
Felton
Bench
Cock/Chan
S-Rod
Owl
Noah
DWTDD
Sorry Mr. Lee. Landry can DWDLD (Do what David Lee do)…and play defense.
Master of the squeegee
and Noah may not be a good fit
Maybe they’d have to have Lee instead..dunno what the cost of Noah would be (is he restricted anyway?)
Master of the squeegee
yeah too many players
I just dont wanna get rid of lee, I am still very curious how he does if we get a consistent big man. I think he could dominate on the PF side, and his defense might improve not having to guard the center position. Landry might be cheaper, but lee is more dangerous. I honestly see alot more possibilities in that 2011 free agency. Minus HWSNBN, bosh and wade, 2011 is stronger.
forgive me, activists
but i just won’t be able to enjoy knicks games if we have a gay last name on one of our jersey’s. i know! i know, i know… i’m the asshole. no homo.
on this list i would pay reasonable money to the following:
kobe bryant
joakim noah
marc gasol
carmelo anthony
marcus camby
kevin durant
caron butler
amare stoudemire
and that’s pretty much it. not too imressed by anyone else, and i think a lot of those names would not perform to the level they most likely get paid. honestly, if we don’t get the big shithead, we fucked it all up. bosh, wade, kobe bryant even…. if we don’t get lebuns, its a bust. its not even a wash if we get three great talents in his place. its a flat out bust. and it will stay a bust until we get a crack at chris paul. and if we don’t get chris paul, we better hope someone comes along that is on par with those two or better.
