The Nets have fans ?!?!

Funny how much Jason Kidd, Richard Jefferson, K-Mart, and Kerry Kittles can change things. Oh, wait a minute none of them are on that team anymore. But seriously, back when I lived in NJ during the glory days of the Knicks, Nets fans were classified as Knicks fans who couldn’t afford tickets to MSG. I remember I went back to Jersey in the Spring of 2002; a couple of my friends who “were” Knicks fans converted over to the Nets. I wonder if that’s the base that makes up their fans, ex-Knicks fans who jumped ship the minute some local vacuum-dynasty catches fire.

I would’ve loved for the Knicks to have the Nets 15 minutes of fame….

When the Nets were having their 15 minutes of fame

We had just come off a decade of fame with a 10 year sellout streak from 93-2003. A playoff streak which began around 1990/1991 and ended in 2001. During our run, we made the eastern conference finals 4 times, made the nba finals twice; and had at least 5 50 win seasons in that stretch. Last but not least, we were always on national tv back when we were all treated to “The NBA on NBC,” and when TNT/TBS carried the games during the week. I may be wrong, but I don’t recall ever seeing a ton of nationally televised Nets games unless their opponent was also worthy of national recognition. Not to be outdone, the Nets during their “run” still struggled to fill that dump in the Meadowlands. The only NJ team that people in NJ give a damn about is the Devils. I will go on a limb and say the Nets will also struggle to steal fans and media attention from the Knicks if and when they ever move to Brooklyn; this all hinges on the Knicks living up to their end of the bargain, but as long as the Knicks are competitive they will always ve the toast of the tri-state area.

4) Groups of Clippers fans

1) Lakers fans who cannot buy tickets to the Lakers

2) Basketball Fans who want to see the marquee teams and players but do not want to pay Laker prices. (Bill Simmons)

3) C and D list celebrities, and or has been/used to be famous people who like basketball, but are too cheap to buy Lakers tickets

4) Actual Clippers fans who just want to like torturing themselves
