Knicks to Play in Milan, Paris
There's long been mention of the Knicks heading to Europe for some preseason festivities, and we've finally got some dates and places. Those of you following your team from The Dark Continent (did I get that right?) can, at long last, see what Toney Douglas do in person. From the press release:
NBA Europe Live 2010 will tip off on Oct. 3, when the New York Knicks take on Armani Jeans Milano at the Mediolanum Forum in Milan, Italy. AJ Milano, the most titled basketball team in Italy with 25 Italian Championships, four Italian Cups and three European Champions Cups, is the former team of Knicks forward Danilo Gallinari (2006-08) and Knicks Head Coach Mike D'Antoni (1978-90). D'Antoni is the team's all-time leading scorer and went on to coach the team for four seasons (1990-94) winning the Korac Cup in 1993.
...
The French capital will host the Knicks and Timberwolves for their second contest on Oct.6 at the Palais Omnisports Paris Bercy. This will be the ninth game to feature an NBA team in Paris since 1991. The Knicks last played in Europe in 1990 in Barcelona.
This should be most excellent. The one downside? Alan Hahn hath twat that the Eurotrip means training camp will not be in Saratoga Springs this year. For our purposes, this is a major bummer. Nonetheless, it'll be fun to see Danilo Gallinari in front of a hometown crowd, Bill Walker pounding crepes, and Eddy Curry getting abandoned in the Parisian catacombs.

It's quite the tradition in many places in Europe across a lot of sports.
For various reasons, e.g. a team started as a company team (PSV Eindhoven (football) from Philips) in The Netherlands, or, in the case of AJ Milano, the league allows sponsors to be part of the name. Giorgio Armani is the owner nowadays. I think that AJ Milano is officially a nickname with Olimpia Milano being the actual name.
There’s a football team in Wales called Airbus UK, from the aircraft manufacturer, whose nickname is the Wingmakers & their ground is called the Airfield.
The English Premier League don’t allow that sort of thing.

Yesssssss!
OK, so it’s not London but Paris is 3,000 miles closer to my place on the south coast of England than NY so I think I may have to take a short(ish) trip. I’m tempted to go to Milan too. The whole round trip would still be only two thirds of a one-way to MSG.
Seeing Gallo & Mike D returning would be a lot of fun.

There's been a few Knicks at Milan aside from Cock 'n' Mike
Bill Bradley, Bob McAdoo, Rolando Blackman, Antonio Davis (he of the Bulls fan confrontation) & Maurice Taylor.
Even better, they had one of my top 3 sports names playing for them – Gregor Fucka. (The other two faves are both soccer players – Stefan Kuntz & Kenny Lunt.)

alas, the divide. the great divide. the sea of indifference. the view from this plateau is awe-inspiring. the flat and rich form of endless calm. eagle’s come here to die. it’s the land that provokes the sky. the horizon bends and tucks the sky into the farthest reaches of my toes. we are all connected in this mythical abyss. you and i.
MONTANA!

Italy
Milano is not the best italian team. Nowadays, Montepaschi Siena is the best current italian team
Hmm...just looked into the whole NBA Live Europe 2010 tour
New York Knicks vs. Armani Jeans Milano Oct. 3 Milan Mediolanum Forum
Los Angeles Lakers vs. Minnesota Timberwolves Oct. 4 London The O2
New York Knicks vs. Minnesota Timberwolves Oct. 6 Paris Palais Omnisports Paris Bercy
Los Angeles Lakers vs. Regal FC Barcelona Oct. 7 Barcelona Palau Sant Jordi
If only the Knicks could’ve come to London. Ah well, the Lakers will keep all the plastic Manchester United/Yankees type fans happy.

the dark continent is a reference to africa
"No disrespect to the batter," Figueroa said, "but tacos are good."

is most assuredly europe
