Camby Re-ups In Portland
So, Marcus Camby signed a two year extension with 17.7 million with the Portland Trail Blazers. I love Marcus - he's one of my favorite Knicks ever, and it would have been cool to have him back. But I'd really like to have the young Marcus Camby back.
Today's Marcus Camby, while an excellent, underrated player that always seems to make his teams better, is 36. 8-9 million a year is a lot to pay for a guy that's 36, and I think if the Knicks were going to spend that kind of money, they'd get someone they can build with longer term. It seems that a better option would be to use our two second rounders, and see if we can buy into the late first round, to get a few players in the hopes one of them turns into a Camby - like player.
For the Blazers, the move seems somewhat prudent, because Camby is good. And Przybilla, apparently, is not going to make it back in time for the beginning of next season, though Oden is supposed to. If they all come back, they've got Oden Pryzbilla, Camby, and Aldridge. Hey that sounds pretty monstrous.
But I was thinking - they like David Lee, right? They've been coveting him for a while. Do you think they would consider dealing Oden? They don't have enough cap room to sign Lee outright. If they offered Oden in a sign and trade, they might be able to do it. Lee would probably agree to it. It would be an interesting move - risky for the Knicks, though potentially awesome.
If the Blazers were looking to go this route, it would be interesting to see the back and forth. We would have to take on other contracts to fit into the Blazers cap situation.

Like your thinking
But if Lee is signed to the 10 or so million he wants Portland couldn’t make the trade work unless they were willing to give up more than Oden. I don’t think they have given up on Oden, nor do the prize Lee enough to Trade Oden and two players for Lee.
But it would have been nice to see Camy as a Knick one last itme.

I don't think Portland has given up on Oden yet either....
but do you REALLY trust his knees to make this deal?
Not really.
It’s a high risk scenario and I’m not sure Oden, even if completely healthy, will ever be a great player. If the players they sent us were contracts expiring after 10-11 that Portland didn’t really value, it’s possible the Knicks could take a chance on Oden if Portland wanted Lee badly enough and they were ready to give up on him.
It’s not a scenario I particularly like, but I thought it was an interesting one to think about.
I likes Camby too.
but this is probably a good thing for us. He was probably a likely target. But he’s an old man. He’s gonna break down at some point.
I’d rather it be on the Blazers then the Knicks.
I’ll always root for Camby…I could imagine if we had him AND Nene all these years…fucking shit.

I like Camby tres,
if you couldn’t tell by my profile pic, but I must agree with FreeBradshaw. This deal works in favor, in that Donnie won’t be tempted to throw 8-9mill to get Camby. This works for Blazers, since they won’t need Camby playing 35+ minutes when they get Oden back. It’s also a nice gesture of them to resign Camby to a nice deal since Camby is playing his mind out.
I’m not too keen on Oden given his injuries, and his ceiling isn’t that high either. Not worth the risk taking him, and Blazers don’t have much else to give to balance the deal.
Time to
Sign Kwame Brown. 6 ft 11 270lbs come one Donnie you traded for Darko come on one more Donnie one more!

Oden is a monster... there is no chance Portland gives him up
Why wouldn’t they just let insurance pay for Pryzbilla and have a big man rotation of …
Aldrige
Oden
Camby
Sounds like a good frontcourt to me …
Oden is young enough to be just fine
His original injury healed and the one he suffered this season was just bad luck IMO. And he was just starting to play like a beast. I’m not saying he isn’t an injury risk…of course he is. But dude is young enough to have plenty of excellent years ahead of him. And I still think he has a plenty high ceiling. If Donnie Walsh has a chance to swipe him from Portland, I think it would be a steal for NY. I think Pryzbilla is done too. Now might be the time to move on Oden.
In any case, please please please kill the Kwame Brown talk. His fresh start was supposed to be Detroit. Who did he have to beat out for playing time? How many injuries did Detroit have? How much time did Kwame Brown end up getting? He had chances in Washington, LA, Memphis (who did he have to beat for playing time there?) and Detroit. How many “fresh starts” does this kid?
Let another team take a chance on him.
