Nate Robinson.....How Do You Feel?

He is destroying the Magic right now by himself. How do you guys feel watching this? I'm actually proud of him, he is performing on the big stage like we always knew he could if given the chance. Its even more impressive considering he hasnt really played all postseason. They dont have an answer for him, he is killing all who step forward. He even tried to posterize Superman. Anyone upset seeing this? Happy? Indifferent? Hungry? Sound off.

i love it

i was a huge nate fan. and i still am.

nate, similar to jamal crawford, is amazingly talented, but needs the right situation (winning teams help) to be proven. nate is a terrific player, and has been maligned for all the wrong reasons, as a 7th or 8th guy, he can be absolutely lethal. and on a team full of winners and veterans, his enthusiasm for the game doesn’t work against him/them.

as for jesus christ helping him be ready to play….. oy vey

he's on a team of winners/veterans

and he rode pine a ton. to me, nate is more like a 20 ppg on a shitty team kinda guy. times like today and the atlanta game are the exceptions that prove the rule

what the hell does that mean?

nate is a talented competitor, thats the rule. when he is put in the right situation, he can take over the entire game. you don’t always need what he brings to the table, that’s all.

nate provided some thrills and was a diversion from a losing team

but i don’t miss him now he’s gone. thats pretty much where i’m coming from. he’s got a fun act but nate hits the point of diminishing returns almost immediately.

as unique as his talent is, as much as he might want to compete, it doesn’t matter. if you want to win regularly, you can’t play nate regularly.

Love seeing Nate play

can’t stand who he’s playing for. I hope he keeps it up, but they lose (and hopefully its not his fault).

Speaking of Nate…does he come back?

Reunion?

I dont think so, he’ll cost too much. Plus he didnt leave on the greatest of terms. Boston would be smart to keep him, but some team desperate for scoring will overpay him. Rather it isnt us.

Yeah

Boston doesn’t have any special advantage in trying to resign him. He had to waive his Bird rights to accept the trade.

It upsets me

You don’t like to see a guy who rotted on your bench for a majority of the season on a 30 win team be traded and go win a game sending another team to the finals. Nate had to be traded, I don’t disagree with that. But I would have much rather watched Nate being a nutjob out there than watch friggen Duhon shoot like an ass clown.

My one and only problem with Pringles is how he never wanted to start Nate. I’d take Nate and his craziness over Duhon’s god awful piss poor miserable 7 year old girl shooting.

I sadly agree

with the starting Nate over Du.

A big what if for me.

But I have my serious doubts about nate as a player. He just is such a liability on defense. I really think he needs to be more of a floor general and less of a scorer.

All in all. I wish him the best. I will take him back as a FA (not for alot of money) but would do that trade again 10 times out of 10.

How was Nate’s crazy fast paced crap not perfect for his system?

by James Angelo on May 28, 2010 11:32 PM EDT reply actions

d'antoni wants a pass first point guard

thats probably not the ONLY reason… but it was probably one of the biggest.

Also....

Nate had a lot of maturity issues that Pringles didnt have time for. Dude is a hell of a player, but he loses focus really fast. That time in Boston probably taught him professionalism and how to better prepare himself mentally. Thats why he was able to come on and contribute in a huge situation.

by JerzeeBalla on May 29, 2010 12:58 AM EDT up reply actions

What's More is..

the fact that Nate had been rotting on the bench, even at the end of the regular season. He hadn’t shown much in a while. I doubt very much Orlando had any worries or gameplanning for Nate. Nate’s a prolific scorer when he wants to be, but never maintained any focus beyond his offensive fireworks. I like Nate as much as the next guy. He makes the game fun to watch when he is fun to watch, but we also received the obligatory, “Hey, did you see what I just did?! Whoa, wait, are we s’posed to run down there and play defense too?” You can’t blame Pringles for getting agitated at that. Nate is a great guy, a nice guy. But he does lack that certain situational awareness beyond playing offense. It tended to take away from team play. You could say the same thing for Al Harrington, but in his case, it wasn’t for a lack of trying – kind of like a mind is willing but the flesh is weak type of thing where he believed he could do things, but his skillset just didn’t accomodate. Nate in the end is a bench player and a great weapon in the right situation. Bill Walker makes it a worthwhile trade to me, and am happier with the return (or potential for returns with what he may give us this coming year) as opposed to what we gave away. Even Giddens give us at the least the off the bench defense Nate couldn’t provide. I miss Nate’s fire and scoring, but think we’ll be just fine with what we got in return. In a perfect world, Walker get’s into 80 game conditioning, and delivers the reliable SG we’ve been missing, he doesn’t have to be everyday perfect, but if he delivers as a solid above average team player along with whatever the rest of our team – whatever that may be – we’re gonna suddenly start winning games and the team will believe in itself. Can Boston be any more of a good example right now? And the guy who should get all the credit is the Doc himself. Dude got them to beleive in team ball to the point he’s been able to plug and play his role players and they’ve delivered just enuff at the right times to make good things happen. Phoenix has done almost the same thing to make their series at least competitive. In a nutshell, I love Nate, but love what we got in return even more.

by screamedia on May 29, 2010 12:07 PM EDT up reply actions

well, Nate finally has a chance to play on a winning team

and as much as we hate Boston, we can’t argue that they aren’t a veteran team that is well prepared and very much understanding how to win.

You put Nate Robinson with all of those guys who are perennial playoff contenders and you are bound to see him adjust his game. And he has. He went from a 6th man in NY to a 9th man in Boston. The showboating and the lack of focus at times, that won’t happen in Boston much. So Nate has himself in an excellent position to grow. And he showed a good glipse of it against Orlando when Doc Rivers gave him a shot. Good for them, good for Nate.

And I like that he still has good things to say about NY.

by Chris Child's Fist on Jun 1, 2010 1:27 PM EDT up reply actions

You mean

the one game where he scored 13 points?

Guys…he barely gets on the floor for Boston. He’s not that good. And he’s as much a problem for Rivers as he was for D’Antoni. And he never plays for Boston. Since April 17 he’s played 57 minutes and 18 seconds.

We all know that he can score in bunches. And yes, he was pretty great for about five minutes in that game against Orlando. But really…I think he’s just about maxed out as a player. An inconsistent, occasional sparkplug who contributes very little without the ball in his hands. And if he has the ball in his hands a lot, odds are you will lose.

by gbnypat on Jun 1, 2010 1:58 PM EDT up reply actions

Really dude? It takes TIME to fit in.

The Celtics are a deep team so they don;‘t need Nate as much as the Knicks did. That doesn’t mean that he is not good. It means the Celtics have a guy on their bench who can be a sparkplug and is as capable as anyone else to drop 20pts on a given night.

Your post doesn’t prove your point at all. By your logic, Antawn Jamison sucks too. Is that what you think?

"you're the Rod Thorn in my Chris Bosh side."

by Chris Child's Fist on Jun 1, 2010 2:29 PM EDT up reply actions

I agree

Nate has a diff role w/ Boston, just to provide a spark off the bench when Rondo is in trouble or to give him a breather. After that showing the other day, I’m sure it bought him some playing time in the finals…..also, in his limited time on the floor, you can tell he has improved a bit defensively and he made some pretty nice passes to find the open guy cutting towards the basket…

by Jason Bee on Jun 1, 2010 3:14 PM EDT up reply actions

OK

Antwan Jamison has scored and rebounded consistently for like, 12 years for two different teams. He is now 35 and didn’t particularly play well for the Cavs. Either he is aging, or he doesn’t fit well with the Cavs. But we know he can contribute.

Nate Robinson was an occasionally brilliant scorer for the Knicks for a bunch of years. He was not a consistent passer, nor a consistent defender, nor was he a consistently efficient scorer. He was pretty consistently entertaining, and consistently athletic. Fans consistently wanted him to succeed. Several coaches consistently thought he couldn’t help the team win.

by fuhry on Jun 1, 2010 6:02 PM EDT up reply actions

I'm agreeing with this

Nate is a known commodity now. He’ll play like he did the other night 15% of the time and be a total liability the other 85%. It’s fun to watch him win you a game, but murder to watch him kill you the next 3.

"But when he saw it, he just put his hands up and they couldn’t give it to him. It just fell to the ground, I-I don’t, you know … So, that showed me he had great experience..." - Jeff Van Gundy

happy for kryptonate

He fills a perfect role for Boston (yuck). They needed that spark off the bench, and they don’t have to try and mold him into a pass-first guy or change his attitude; they just let him spin. Perfect situation for the guy, unlike NY, which didn’t really need the inconsistencies.

Lets go LAKERS!

If Nate knows what’s good for him he’ll sign with LA this offseason. They could use his scoring at the 1, since Fisher and company are horrible!

Yea I know he played well against the Suns but who doesn’t against that awful D!

At least he won all his slam dunk trophies for NYC. :)

Nate has a mission to complete.

He has to show the Knicks that thier assessment of his ability was wrong. If Nate gets a ring he will be one of the happiest basketball players on the face of the earth and will rub it in the Knicks face every chance he gets. I am sure that each time he takes the court for Boston, he is thinking to himself: "Those bastards said I wasn’t good enough. Those fucks said that I like to joke around. They tried to play me out. I’ll show them.

I am happy that he is in a position to show what he can contribute when he has the right pieces around him and I hope he gets a championship. I think the Knicks did him dirty.

That is possible.

But, I am sure that Nate hold some resentment or bitterness torwards the Knicks and in many ways this feeling is driving his desire to succeed.

i compleatly disagree

not every player/coach combo is right.

Nate had shown flashes, but he also showed stretches of bad basketball. Trading him at the time the knicks did was trading a player at the peak of their value. It was a great basketball decision.

I agreed with the sentiment above that I wish he got a little bit more look as a starting PG. But I have major doubts that he could run an offense.

Why do you

think the Knicks did him dirty.
? Because of the benching? You will be hard pressed to find anyone that disagrees. And looking back on it

a) the knicks dominated while he was gone. It was by far their best stretch of the season. May be a coincidence and I dont think him being gone was the only factor… but still… hard to ignore.

b) he was benched for exacitally one month. There was a reason for that. Maybe he mouthed off to the coach in a meeting. Maybe he said or did something really bad to another player. Who knows. What I do know is he never came out publicly and ripped the coach for it. Also – his working his butt off during his benching showed major character and prob increased his trade value more then his being on the court would have.

Nate will always be loved here in NYC. He was a good role player and was def a high point over this bad stretch. He will be signed for more money then he is really worth and will prob have a solid career. However, the knicks did him no wrong. (they even traded him to the team he wanted to go to and put him in a chance to win a ring!)

by gbaked on Jun 1, 2010 10:42 AM EDT up reply actions

Excellent points. Many of which I can't dispute.

The reson why I think he was done dirty is because he was constantly under the microscope. The organization, media and many fans projected the hate that they had for Isaiah Thomas on to Nate. Nate was one of the best players on the team beside Crawford. No one like the mney he was getting paid because no one thought he was worth it (including me) and this increase the severity of the criticism he got. he is not a good defensive player but all player have thier strengths and weaknesses. Nate in no exception to the rule. I will admit that I was probably wrong with the “did him dirty” part. Also, during the time that Nate was benched he requested a trade so he must have felt that he was beening mistreated in some way.

I don't think Nate harbors ill will to NY

I dont see him takin shots at the Knicks if the Celtics win a title. He knows how both organizations are at very different stages. He loved NY, but I think he became (unfairly) a poster child for the Knicks losing ways. He is very talented and very exciting, but the Knicks just needed a change. And trading Nate to a divisional rival and a top contender is VERY considerate. Most teams rule out divisional rivals before anything else!! That should have showed that it was nothing personal.

by Chris Child's Fist on Jun 1, 2010 1:33 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't think Nate harbors ill will

to ANY opposing team. Or to the act of losing itself. He is certainly an engaging personality with mad athleticism and a lot of skill. But I’d take Bill Walker over him because Bill Walker has been consistently efficient.

I mean, his good game here is kind of what happens with him. A great game once in a while. How does a coach find out how to pick the right moment to give him serious minutes without jeapordizing the game? D’antoni couldn’t figure out how to do it and Rivers is having trouble, too – hence his long string of DNP’s and minimal minutes.

by fuhry on Jun 1, 2010 2:03 PM EDT up reply actions

Mike D doesnt have time for two things

immaturity and a scoring point guards.

Unfortunately nate had both.

Bully Walker was a good deal for him.

by gbaked on May 31, 2010 11:41 PM EDT reply actions

i don’t like watching my ex-girlfriend make out with dudes.

nate was like the really hot chick who was terrible in bed and pretty dumb. she never brought any moves to the table in the sack. but sometimes it was a real thrill. especially in the beginning.

and now that game was like watching her win a beauty pageant, you can’t help but be like, “yeah, well she’s a dummy, so she might blow it” and you’re a little bitter about how it ends, but you can’t help but root for her.

this analogy really took a life of it’s own. to sum it up, it’s nice to see him succeed, but it’s definitely bittersweet, and you can’t help but think if things had been different. “if only we met when we were older.”

by Shawn Harris on Jun 2, 2010 9:37 AM EDT reply actions

Agreed.

Its rare to get traded to a division rival when you have some talent, Its even more rare when that division rival has title aspirations. They really looked the lil homie out, and I believe he knows that. Which is why he hasnt talked a whole lot of shit about NY since leaving. I believe in Karma though, and I think that Walsh looking him out was repaid by Bully Walker turnin out to be a useful player. Basketball Gods reward things like that.

by JerzeeBalla on Jun 2, 2010 10:18 AM EDT up reply actions

Shawn you have a way of turning a phrase my man.

But seriously, I really do not think anything of his playing well, because that is his job. the NBA is not church league, where everybody gets to play. So he sat on the bench, for most of the playoffs, this guy gets paid and paid well (one more reason to thank Donnie) to be mentally and physically prepared to step on the court and help his team win, whether he is in the rotation or not. Basically I think Nate is showing some signs of growing up. Like D’Antoni said when he benched him, being an NBA player is a privilege and while it is ok to have fun, you have to take your job seriously, and Nate needed to learn that, he is not in college anymore where they are gonna play him because he is the best athlete on the team or he was the highest recruited guy. If he wants to continue cashing NBA pay checks, he needs to show he can be a professional. Guys like Nate have a role in this league and he could fill it for years, but guys like Nate are also the most expendable.

by Robert Currence on Jun 2, 2010 3:18 PM EDT up reply actions

Nate's a fun loving guy

but he doesn’t hate losing enough. The guy’s been in the league for enough years. Just because he’s tiny doesn’t mean he can grow up any more. He’ll get one more NBA contract and then he’ll be on the Globetrotters, where he’ll revitalize the franchise. That’s my prediction. Meanwhile, Bill Walker will be helping teams win for the next 10.
