Rumor: Knicks Wont Give Curry Minutes? Mozgov = Turiaf Backup?

Supposedly the New York Knicks are gonna ruin Eddy Curry's career and not put him on the floor at all this upcoming season. According to Alexander Chernykh, Timofey Mozgov's agent guaranteed one thing to be certain.

The agent for Timofey Mozgov was reportedly told that Eddy Curry, who is in the final season of his contract, will not receive playing time with the Knicks.

Mosgov's agent said that his client was guaranteed a spot on the Knicks' roster, as the backup to center Ronnie Turiaf.

Amar'e Stoudemire, whom the Knicks signed to a maximum-salary contract as a free agent, was apparently assured that he will be used in his natural position at power forward.

This is all speculation coming from an agent, could be true but it could also be false. If we are planning to keep Curry on the bench the entire season, the Knicks may end his career. Eddy Curry will not get a chance to show teams how much he has improved and find a job elsewhere because of this. Put a fork in him he's done? Maybe so.

Good.

he doesn’t deserve it.

Bye, Lee :(

if he's the best option

he deserves to play. But if he’s not, then he can ride the pine and collect another 11 mil and give Marc Berman some quotes during a losing streak.

by gbnypat on Jul 16, 2010 6:11 PM EDT up reply actions

Eddy doesn't deserve anything.

and the Knicks owe him nothing. I don’t think it matters if he goes out there and plays like he did a couple years ago either.

If he wanted to really prove himself, he should’ve declined his player option, went on a cheap deal and then earned it, something I’m sure teh Knicks could’ve agreed to.

He screwed the Knicks basically. This will (and should be) the last millions he makes in the NBA.

Bye, Lee :(

We should run a pool to guess his weight

when he shows up at camp. My guess is 325. I think the plan is either to run the shit out of him in practice or ignore him completely. In any event, I can’t imagine he will ever get any playing time.

by Vincent C on Jul 16, 2010 9:34 PM EDT up reply actions

What was he supposedly down to last year?

Those pictures came out during the season of a very slimmed down Eddy Curry. I’ll admit it got me a little excited.

I hope we do set up a pool...

the 2 as in Shooting gaurd?

why would a 6 foot 10 guy play SG? THis isn’t Kevin Durant.

by DRoyce on Jul 16, 2010 1:21 PM EDT up reply actions

He certainly does have the skill and the ball handling....

But guard is soooo different I don’t know if he could. He has guarded 2’s while with State so maybe…he’s a very underrated defender.

Thats what im thinking… If he can guard the 2 it would be perfect bc he would be a match-up nightmare for most 2s on the offensive end. and then Gallo can play the 3.

Gallo is critical

if this team is to make the playoffs. Everyone expects big things from him. If he continues his improved play, this team will win a lot of games. If not, it’s going to be a big struggle.

I don't believe this rumor

Think about it. Why would the Knicks go public with this? Doing this would mean they get hosed in any trade involving Eddy Curry’s expiring contract. The Knicks would be smarter to showcase Eddy Curry as much as possible to drive up his value, that way we don’t have another Jarred Jeffries, Jordan Hill, and 2 first round picks for TMAC kind of situation. Or better yet, say Eddy Curry is healthy, and the Knicks allow Mozghov’s agent to go public with the plan to sit Curry and never play him. Wouldn’t that be Stephon Marbury redux? I can see Eddy Curry trying to stick it to us demanding a buy out.

Thus, with the above scenarios in mind, I definitely think we will play Curry if an when he’s healthy.

Curry doesn't need to have any value as a player

His value is purely his expiring contract. No one is going to sign him after this season. He’s cap plutonium right now and that’s all that matters. Curry should beg for playing time this year.

If dude is healthy and isn't being a jack ass during practice, meetings, and camp

why not play him? If he plays well then we can hold a big man starved team hostage in trade talks, and we benefit in the win/loss column while he’s with us. I don’t want to see us cut off our nose to spite our face.

I feel u on him

adding to his value. It would be icing on the cake for curry to become a half decent player. Why not add to a already good trade chip? I think curry should get a chance to play. But a lot more goes on than waht anybody knows here, so maybe there is / was a conflict with thim and the team recently.

this could be rumor though.. mosgov’s agent could be a goon. just talking up his man.

"If dude is healthy" ...

this is where the questioning stops, because Curry is never healthy. He doesn’t care about getting in shape – he doesn’t care about responsibility – he doesn’t care about “his end of the deal”. All he cares about is cashing checks and sitting around eatin’ fast food.

When will we get it through our thick skulls that Eddy Curry has decided – and a long time ago at that – to not play anymore? He. doesn’t. care. This is why he refuses to watch his weight – this is why he refuses to run a lap – this is why he refuses to get up from the couch.

Curry is already "pulling a Marbury" more or less.

He’s so much in debt, is the main reason I’d guess. But I’m pretty sure I’ve already heard that he won’t take a buyout for anything less than his current contract minus the vet minimum, basically.

Good move

Everything we’ve heard about Mosgov says he is already an NBA ready post defender and we need a big presence down low. Starting Turiaf doesn’t sound like a D’Antoni move, he can’t play on the perimeter to space pick and rolls.

Curry has no place on the Knicks. He’s just the last mistake hanging around from the last decade, and soon he will mercifully be gone as well.

by SioneBAAOOOHA on Jul 16, 2010 2:43 PM EDT reply actions

I will tell you why its a good idea

a healthy non-playing curry is more valuable than an injured curry that attempted to play a few games.

If he doesn’t play at all, then he can’t get injuried (unless he gets hurt somewhere else).

So if they don’t play him, less risk of “injury” aka his knees won’t support his fat then they might be able to get more for hmi in a trade.

by DRoyce on Jul 16, 2010 2:59 PM EDT reply actions

Don't believe what an agent says, even if he was quoting

Pringles directly. The Knicks haven’t even had the full roster together for a practice yet. I believe Curry will get minutes this year if he is:
A. In decent shape
B. Shows that he can still do a few competent things on the court.

D’Antoni has already said that Turiaf is starting at center, though he doesn’t plan on playing him more than 20 minutes a night. Remember Turiaf has had heart trouble and Knee trouble in his career and he is foul prone, so he probably is a stretch for more than 20. That leaves 28 minutes at the Center position. Randolph will probably get some minutes there as well as at PF when Amar’e goes to the bench. Mozgov could get minutes, but who knows what he can do yet, So Curry definitely can get some minutes if he does the work to earn them.

by Robert Currence on Jul 16, 2010 3:04 PM EDT reply actions

I forgot to add, Mike D'Antoni is not opposed to playing Curry

If Curry is in shape. However Curry already has a strike against him. D’Antoni asked him to come to Vegas to work out with the Summer league team. Curry’s court issues have kept him from going to Vegas. So who knows what kind of shape he is in.

He’s a useless POS as a player, his value is in the expiring contract. I’d rather see useful minutes go to developing the young guys.

This isn't news to me

Curry is fat and slow. How is he going to run the floor in D’Antoni’s offense? He can’t.

When his contract comes off the books, that’s the next (and last) positive thing he will do for the Knicks.

curry doesnt deserve shit from the knicks

if he wanted to prove he could play he wouldnt have picked up that players option and the knicks would have maybe gotten the miami trio

well this is an interesting angle

we missed out on LBJ, Wade, and Bosh because Eddy Curry lacks pride, integrity, and ambition. man, that’s a lot of blame to place on a single person.

by jlaw on Jul 17, 2010 7:38 AM EDT up reply actions

would YOU turn down $11Million if you knew you might not get another contract, much less for anything near that?

I didn’t think so. Eddy Curry picking up his Player Option has absolutely ZERO things in common with his desire to “prove he can play”.

Anyone who uses that as an excuse to bash him is either:
A. Naive
B. Unaware of the NBA being a business
C. An asshole.

And if that sounds a little too blunt, direct, or mean… I’m sorry. But this is the same Eddy Curry who has had to deal with his daughter being fucking murdered along with his baby mama. That shit alone can make a motherfucker lose focus.

And no one is talking about keeping Eddy after this year anyways.

The dude has NOT been a cancer to the team either. Sure he wants to play, but he knows the deal. This isn’t like the Stephon Marbury situation.

"you're the Rod Thorn in my Chris Bosh side."

by Chris Child's Fist on Jul 19, 2010 1:57 PM EDT up reply actions

What's the deal?

The latest I read about the Knick front court situation is this
Stoudemire and Turiaf will start, Although Pringles wants to limit Turiaf to 20 mins a night if he can.
Randolph and Stoudemire will play some on the floor together with Amare most likely playing center depending on matchups. Which leaves about 15 minutes at the Center position. Presumably those will be Mozgov’s minutes unless Eddy Curry can convince Pringles otherwise. And Pringles has not publicaly ruled out Curry getting those minutes, provided that he is in shape and demonstrates that he can be effective on the floor. So what does Curry know, because the way I read the situation is Curry has a decent chance to be in the rotation if he is in shape and productive on the court. Otherwise the minutes will probably go to the Russian. Who if nothing else is at least in shape.

by Robert Currence on Jul 19, 2010 3:04 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah, the deal is Curry has to earn his time like everybody else

No one has guaranteed him anything. He isn’t guaranteed to play and isn’t guaranteed to sit either. I don’t buy any guarantees from anyone about who is playing what minutes.

No special treatment for Eddy Curry.

And I was sounding off on the people who make it sound like Eddy has been purposefully screwing the Knicks over, which he has not.

we have every right to be pissed at him picking up the option

would he be dumb to turn it down? Yea, absolutely. He ain’t the one who wrote the contract either probably, so that ain’t on him either.

But by taking his option, he also took the option to be hated on even more. He deserves nothing from the Knicks as most likely, he’s THE reason right now we ain’t figuring how the Knicks are gonna sideways fuck the rest of the NBA with Wade, Amare and LeBalls (whether you like em or not).

And if you don’t believe that…you are also A, B and a gaping C.

by FreeBradshaw on Jul 19, 2010 4:03 PM EDT up reply actions

No, the reason is Isiah for offering the contract

How can someone justify asking a player to leave $11+ Million on the table for the sake of ‘pride’??!! Shit, people wanna talk about Wade/James/Bosh taking “less” money for the better of the team and they each signed contracts for I believe like $2Mil less than they could have.

We are talking about over $11 Mil here. Even if he declined the option, he wouldn’t have gained any pride points… he would have been further chided for being impossibly stupid for not taking the money.

Eddy Curry’s contract screwed the Knicks. Seeing as Curry did not write or dictate his own contract, your hate need be directed at one Isiah Thomas and one James Dolan.
And you know this, man.

I agree, I’ll boo a photo of Dolan (BOOOO!) or I boo whenever I write his name. IT too (BOOOO!!).

Eddy didn’t live up to the contract. Does he retain the right to excercise the option? Yea, I said he does.

He deserves to be blamed and ridiculed as well for not living up to the contract.

by FreeBradshaw on Jul 19, 2010 4:26 PM EDT up reply actions

No, he hasn't lived up to his contract in the least

But the dude hasn’t thrown tantrums in the media like some other players have. The only things he has said have been that he wants to play.

I have no problem with people pointing out Curry’s contract and inability to stay healthy, but the idea that he is secretly laughing to himself and being proud about how he has personally screwed the Knicks is just an unfair assessment of his situation.

The Eddy Curry story is best described as a tragedy, not a sabotage.

Thats misdirected hostility that should be aimed at Isaiah.

Or D’Antoni maybe. If you don’t think Curry’s worth 11 mill/yr, hate on Isaiah for giving him that $ while bidding against himself. If you think he is or ever was worth 11 mill/yr, then be mad at D’Antoni for not playing him.

The last good thing ESPN had on the Knicks is when we traded for T-Mac. We’ve gotten Stoudemire, Felton, Turiaf, Randolph, Azibuke and our draft picks are playing decent but no one gives us any type of props. I actually enjoy the hate, keeps the bandwagoners away.

Staying out of the papers is a good thing. Let those hacks sleep on us and watch how every tom, dick and harry sports journalist acts with utter shock and awe as we are in the midst of playoff contention next season. They will devote entire sports pages, entire segments, debate what the correct explanation is, when it comes to our on-court success next year. Some may think I’m putting the cart before the horse here, however, I firmly believe that this team will reward us for our loyalty during the past decade of futility.

Even when things are going well, the bandwagoners take a back seat to all us diehards. Then even when the team sucks you can still tell we have fans. As much as I hate Wilbon, and as much as I am starting to despise Bill Simmons, they both acknowledge the fact that we have a very strong and intelligent fan base.

and while I think eventually Randolph starts (if Lee can play C, so can Randolph for Pringles) I think Turiaf gets the start from the get go.

Eventually I see that lineup, but for right now I gotta go with Turiaf at the 5 to start off.

Randolph probably gets the bulk of the minutes tho out there (Turiaf like 20-25, Randolph about 30-35 per spelling Turiaf and Amare).

Watch

I bet Gallinari comes off the bench with the second unit. The team has so many options with talented players playing big or small.
Its not a put down towards Gallinari. I just think he will be better off coming off the bench with the secod unit. The front line of Stoudemire Centers by Committee and Chandler is solid. We can even add Randolph at center when we play against a small center team.
Gallinari is going to have a hard time in training camp beating out these guys for front line time.

by Dziedzic on Jul 19, 2010 6:21 PM EDT up reply actions

Who is in front of him?

Chandler? He already did beat him out last year. Chandler seemed to regress last year while Gallo progressed.

Randolph? He’s not gonna start over Gallo, Randolph isn’t the shooter Gallo is…and that’s reason 1 for Pringles to play someone. Randolph if he starts, it will be with Gallo.

Who else? Landry Fields? Really?

I understand it ain’t a put down, and in a Ginobili type of role, having a very good player off the bench is not a bad idea.

The Knicks just don’t have anyone to start over him.

If anything…..

Felton
Chandler
Gallo
Amare
Randolph

That’s the only way Chandler and Randolph start. Gallo is the starting SF…I don’t even think he has to compete for it.

Go New York Go!

and while really...I'd love to see Mozgov start

that would mean he’s a hell of a lot better then I ever thought he was. But I doubt it. I think at best he gets 20 minutes a game.
