Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Is Amare Stoudemire Jewish?

I guess he's been closing a lot of tweets with "shalom" so, is he?

Star-divide

I guess folks think that Amare is a member of the Tribe.  And I don't mean the Indians...Cleveland has already missed their shot at STAT!  Suck it, Lake Erie and environs.

Anyway, here's the money tweet it's like Jeopardy! where the answer is before the question.

Yes Indeed !! RT @Shims11: @Amareisreal Whats up w the hebrew? Are you jewish?

Also it's weird that the only actual scripture quote he uses in the blog I linked isn't from the Tanakh.  I know the difference and these words like Tanakh because I am in fact a Roman Catholic priest.

All jokes aside.

Those tweets are old as dirt. I think someone on here posted this already about a week ago.

Au contraire

According to recent tweets from the Big Apostrophe, Amar’e is currently in Israel learning Hebrew and he says he has family that lives there.

No joke (at least by me).

They have an awesome webstore.

Featuring Jems such as Alex is Lovesick:

Israel in the early 1950s, where Alex, who is 13, is growing up. His typical family is made up of a bossy mother, a father who suffers silently, a sweet and kind grandmother, and an odd Persian neighbor who is fighting a never-ending battle with his bald-spot. Alex falls in love with Mimi, a beauty from his class, until Lola, a Polish relative, comes to Israel in search of her lost love. Alex falls head over heels with this woman while she nurtures him.

horrible movie

but achieved a cult following in Israel. 50 percent of the population probably knows this movie by heart.

50% is no cult following

This is new stuff.

I went to his twitter last night and the quote in this link was his latest tweet. I had to do some serious digging to find the quote in the original post. I think its cool he’s going to Israel.

On another Israeli online newspaper he claims his mom is Jewish

and that he has The Star of Davd tattooed on his arm.
I’m not sure if anybody else here can ready Hebrew, but here’s the link:

That’s probably why he picked the Knicks, Large Jewish population, kosher restaurants everywhere…

Why do people come here to say the most random things?

That makes a lot of sense of why he came here.

What?

It’s too much to think this young man, this godl, this kishefmakher of the hardwood should not appreciate the culture of New York City? A place so bavust? You should treat him like so much gehakte leber?

Can we get confirmation on the size of his nose?

That would be paramount to a final decision here.

From the mouth of The Apostrophe

The Jerusalem Post caught up with our Main Mensch at a kosher restaurant in Jerusalem. He confirmed that he is “a Hebrew” with a “Jewish background” and is excited about learning about his heritage.

I feel so stupid that I can’t think of a proper nickname for him considering this latest development.

I mean its not that weird

I think its pretty kewl. to be in the holy land to. i live in crown heights brooklyn. and i have jews on my block that are kewl as hell.(im west indian cooley & black) this is great if you think about it. this will bring more of a jewish fan base to our knicks. just cause of amarie having jewish genetics I think. and for him to be there learning getting to know his background. good stuff

by choplo on Jul 29, 2010 9:02 AM EDT reply actions

See, for me

This actually presents a highly opportunistic situation. For years, African Americans and Jews have maintained a safe distance from one another’s interests, despite both peoples having experienced a panoply of horrific and unspeakable atrocities. Many, including Dr. King’s wife, have tried to reason with both groups, explaining that in a country which was largely founded upon a hypocrisy of equality, two of the more marginalized groups must find a way to work together, rather than in competition with one another. Amar’e’s discovery of his Jewish roots is a rare opportunity, in which an individual who is one of the leaders in a highly urbanized sport may be able to synthesize support from both African American and Jewish communities. I do hope that Amar’e realizes this, but in any case, I welcome him as a new MOT, and present him with a standing invitation to attend my friday night Sabeth dinner (of course, I would first have to begin having a weekly Sabeth dinner, but regardless)

I thought

Jews and African Americans both already loved basketball and the Knicks.
