OK.... so... let's say that since the second meeting with LeBron, he's secretly agreed to join the Knicks - and plans to announce the decision on ESPN from Allan Houston's house in Greenwich. Everyone is sworn to secrecy because LeBron wants to turn this into a fundraiser for the Boys and Girls club and wants to get the maximum viewership.
But then.... somehow, Alan Hahn, who is very smart, and independent minded, finds out about the Greenwich location. At this point, it's too late and/or unfeasible to change the city Suddenly, it looks to everyone like it's going to be the Knicks - but this was supposed to remain a secret. This pisses off LeBron... and pisses off Dolan, who promised it would remain a secret, and whose employee, Alan Hahn, who works for Newsday, which is owned by Cablevision, which owns the Knicks, spilled the beans. So they say the taping location accross town to take the Knick connection out of it.
Step two: Dolan calls Hahn, and says - dude, you screwed this up and LeBron isn't happy. So Hahn is asked to leak a Miami rumor - which he does. Hahn, who as a result of the Greenwich scoop is now the most credible reporter around, has literally sent ESPN and the whole country into a place of certainty that LeBron is going to Miami. People are now so certain that they have completely discounted the strange incongrous fact that LeBron is making this announcement from Greenwich CT, miles from the Knicks practice facility, of all places.
Mission accomplished. People are going to tune in, expecting to hear 'Miami'. I personally, think he's still going to be at Allan Houston's house, announcing he's going to the Knicks.
Though, maybe he's so pissed at the Knicks for not keeping the secret that, along with the larger than expected cap, he actually WILL go to Miami. Or go back to Cleveland. Or go to the Nets.
But no... the Knicks still have shooters, still have Amar'e, still have D'antoni, still are in NY and still have Curry's expiring contract. I'm confident.
