Ford: David Lee Sign-and-Trade is Done

(Updated at 9:56 PM) Chad Ford:

Lee's agent, Mark Bartelstein, told ESPN.com that Lee had agreed to a sign-and-trade worth $80 million dollars over six years with the Golden State Warriors.

The deal will send Lee to the Warriors for Anthony Randolph, Ronny Turiaf and Kelenna Azubuike among others.

Presumably, this is the deal sending David Lee to the Warriors for Anthony Randolph, Kelenna Azubuike, and Ronny Turiaf. AMONG OTHERS!?

More as it develops.

Update: If you'd like, head over to GSoM and tell them how great Lee is. Be nice.

and he gets to play with:

stephen curry, who will get him good looks. and monta ellis, who will throw up enough bricks for lee to average a 20-20.

should have tried to add Monta to it instead of going after Mike Miller. Ellis, Cock, Randolph and STAT would be pretty good.

by Michael Gleich on Jul 8, 2010 9:52 PM EDT reply actions

I actually like Mike Miller better

fits the team better…aka not a ball hog and can make a 3pter.

If Donnie signs him for less then what Ellis makes….also, a win.

Monta’s deal also runs further, by taking these expirings, we maintain our flexibility for 2011

Ellis

is not a team player. he’s a 2 guard al harrington with stephon marbury attitude. warriors fans and media not happy with him.

From a Warriors fan

It was either Monta or Randolph as the key piece to getting Lee. There is LITERALLY ZERO chance they would ever traded the two of them for Lee. It would need to be a top 10 NBA player with the way their view these two players.

Im dissappointed Randolph is leaving, however I do think Lee will fit with Curry very well. Wait until you see the things Randolph is capable of doing. He has the potential to be a superstar if he ever gets his head on straight. Neither team can really complain about this one. Kelenna will thrive with D’Antoni. He can shoot threes very well, rebound pretty well, and play decent d. He will win over fans, plus, he has the biggest guns in the league haha. Turiaf will be a fan favorite for sure. His energy is infectious. Just dont expect him to stay on the court too long. The dude fouls more than ANYONE its a little rediculous. Fouled out in the first half once (or maybe it was start of 3rd qtr).

by tom88gsw on Jul 8, 2010 10:37 PM EDT up reply actions

I am happy we got randolph instead Monta is another suspect defender, least randolph can block some shots with that wingspan, would be a perfect time for us to bring in Ewing but hopefully Herb can get through to him

by FruDaGod2010 on Jul 8, 2010 10:40 PM EDT up reply actions

Randolph's got more potential

probably more then Lee, tho he’s not at all Lee right now.

Plus more importantly, the Knicks still have plenty of cap flexibility. Ellis’ $11mill from now till forever for a player that does what he does…..meh…

KEEP LEE!!!

to be honest..

even if they don’t, its not completely the point. Randolph is basically a draft pick. The other 2 are just rotation guys.

Its all about maintaining cap flexibility and not going into $100million of mess

KEEP LEE!!!

by FreeBradshaw on Jul 8, 2010 10:53 PM EDT up reply actions

true

you very well could have lost lee for nothing. So in that sense, its a very good deal. Randolph is like a top 5 pick as far as potential goes. He just has a little bit of the DeMarcus Cousins immaturity factor. I hope he does well. As a basketball fan, I’d really like to see what kind of player he can become.

by tom88gsw on Jul 8, 2010 11:00 PM EDT up reply actions

does the $100 million of mess

refer to Amare. If so, I agree completely. He is not worth a max deal in my mind. However, I’m not going to come on here and bash your guys. I’ll leave that up to you guys, you do it well enough!

by tom88gsw on Jul 8, 2010 11:02 PM EDT up reply actions

not even close to talking about Amare.

I think he’s overpaid a bit, but really not all that much. I loved Lee, but Amare to me is one of the best PFs in the game, if not the best.

The $100mill was talking about the Knicks mess teams of yesteryear with no space whatsoever.

I loved the Amare signing.

KEEP LEE!!!

by FreeBradshaw on Jul 8, 2010 11:13 PM EDT up reply actions

The one saving grace there

is I think Amar’e is a great pickup because he’s already tasted the good the bad and the ugly and hopefully has learned from it. With a new team we need a new (winning) attitude and hopefully that was walked onto the Garden floor with Amar’e. Like it or not, he’s the big man on campus now. This was a good signing

Nice on D as well.

In 08-09, he played 74 games, 32 mpg – 14.4 pt, 5 reb, 1.5 ast, .8 stl, .7 blk, 1.28 TO per game…That was on 46% shooting, 45% from 3!, 80.8% FT

Overall I like him a lot. He started out similarly last year with a full block a game, 54% FG but lower 3pt (still good at 37%), but then the injury happened.

Botched??

Are you serious?? Botching it would be the New Jersey Nets. Your newest 2010 FA addition is… Travis Outlaw at 7 mill a year… for the next 5 years. Hurray for foot injuries?

We went out there, got Amar’e, who’s not afraid of the challenge and taking in the lights. And when Davie Lee walked, we robbed half of the GSW roster.

by int3nsee on Jul 8, 2010 10:20 PM EDT up reply actions

UMM No

I agree with you on points to a degree, but Amar’e heald up well last year so hopefully that maintains. It’s his mouth. If ya gonna yack, back it up. I thinkl he’s learned his lesson and I’m impressed with his fiorst week here. The writing was on the wall for Lee and I hate it but it’s doen and he’ll be fien and we’ll be fine. Amar’e spreads the floor and makes a certain Gallo more dabngerous in my opinion. And unless you missed the last week, Donnie is a beast. The knicks even thru the kitchen sink and worked to the last minute in what I believe was something long decided between BFF’s. We have the potential and space because of The DW Team. Give it where it’s due. I feel nothing on “missing out” on Lebron. I don’t suffer fools but that’s me and this is a shallow game he’s played. Plenty will be on his jock, but the King is now a Joker to me.

no ... the yanks can buy 25 men to fill the roster

The Heat have 3 and then absolute no room to do anything else.

by Balagast on Jul 8, 2010 10:58 PM EDT up reply actions

basketball being so different changes things too

these 3 joining together is such a bitch move. Clyde was not happy, lol. This is not good for the league. Yankees have history and shit.

David Lee trade

Love this trade for the Knicks. I have been wanting Azibuke for the Spurs for years now. Anthony Randolph has tons of upside, and Turiaf is an OK backup. If the Knicks get any kind of point guard, you guys will actually be running and gunning all over the floor. The team should at least be fun to watch until Melo becomes available.

by Slowpoke Rodriguez on Jul 8, 2010 10:57 PM EDT reply actions

i guess i should post my opinion on the deal itself too

i actually think turiaf is the best piece, a front court defender who won’t need the ball, does the dirty work, and will defend the best 4 or 5 man out there. even if he only gets 20 minutes a game, that’s a valuable contribution.

azibuike is still recovering from injury, which probably means that he falls behind in the rotation game. bully and chan are on d’antoni’s good side and will soak up all of those swingman minutes. but we need depth and he has a very fair contract, so nothing wrong with getting him.

randolph is basically a freeroll. he gets 2 years to figure it out (donnie will def pick up his option for 11-12, he loves this guy), in which he will either become a beast in SSOL or just flame out and get cut. given his athleticism and talent, he’s worth the risk.

by latrell chokewell on Jul 8, 2010 11:12 PM EDT up reply actions

Sad to see Lee go.

Really really loved watching him play.

This my 4th account. Dont ban me bro!!!

TD/Ridnour/Rautins
Azibuike/Walker
Gallo/Chandler/Fields
Amare/Randolph
Turiaf/Jordan/Curry (until he magically turns into Chris Paul)

year one… 2nd round of playoffs

year 2… ‘melo or CP3 arrives and we’ll see kobe in the finals (after the miami cHEAT collapse)

by bucketsncents on Jul 8, 2010 11:13 PM EDT reply actions

Don’t be suprised to see cp3 go to the heat, he jus signed wit laqueens management team

they have no money for any big time names lol, they will be cash strapped for awhile even if they take less money unless they are all playin for a mil a year which i doubt

by FruDaGod2010 on Jul 8, 2010 11:20 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't know the numbers off the top of my head, and the they're aren't finalized

But the Heat can’t possibly have the space to do that?

Ryan Miller was the true MVP.

by Jsz on Jul 8, 2010 11:21 PM EDT up reply actions

Only way CP3 could go there

Is if they trade one of the Big 3 to get him.

by jlaw on Jul 8, 2010 11:23 PM EDT up reply actions

Or if they all renegotiate their contracts so they're making the same amount

because they are that desperate for a championship. I mean it’s good and all that they want to win but this is the equivilent to a monopoly of talent in basketball (Having 3 of the best 10 players in the league for 5 years.)

shyt happens

im a yankee fan.

they made an unselfish move in taking a pay cut to chance a champoiship team. but time will tell if they can play well alongside each other, or if egos can match for a entire season. It will take great schemes and 200% effort to beat them on paper.. but it can be done. Nobody is mailing it in.

if i was in cleveland

i would be more bitter about dan gilbert’s empty promises than about lebron leaving.

well maybe not. but to claim that the cavs are winning a title any time soon? man, gtfo with that.

What a classless move by a team owner.

by ae2cdk on Jul 8, 2010 11:31 PM EDT up reply actions

What a statement.

Remember he’s trying to console a whole state who are pretty depressed right now. He needs to unite them against HWSNBL and the Heat to distract them from mass suicide! I’m angry at James for this fiasco, but I feel much worse for the Cleveland fan base!

My favorite part,

""I PERSONALLY GUARANTEE THAT THE CLEVELAND CAVALIERS WILL WIN AN NBA CHAMPIONSHIP BEFORE THE SELF-TITLED FORMER ‘KING’ WINS ONE" You can take it to the bank. " – Really, you’re going to win one next year, with your roster of LeBron rejects. What bank is going to back this again?

by Timmaht on Jul 9, 2010 9:26 AM EDT up reply actions

what else was gilbert suppose to do… he’s showing more balls than lebron did. he’s got to try to keep that city afloat. they’re probably weeping in the fetal position on the streets of akron right about now.

maybe delonte west DID sleep with momma james?

LOL

Delonte: LiL man make up his mind yet??
(Gloria removes head from under covers and wipes mouth)
Gloria: Yeah sugar he said south beach, he tired of people laugin at him, he wanna play wit his friends.
Delonte: South beach?? Hmm south beach is nice.

Good luck.

he's bitter

he was the only talking head saying that bron was coming to NY, so now he’s blaming Lebron’s bone-headed “decision” on the Knicks. whatever.

man im still kinda in shock

I guess from a player standpoint..they want to get a ring. so they want to sacrifice everything in order to do so….. this …makes me mad..i feel hate! not hate like reggie miller beating up on ny..but hate before they have even played one possesion. This is that hater hate…fk it tho. I had hopes on lebron fitting in here with this roster. But now i see he doesnt deem himself the player we all thought he was.. this is crazy.. all of em in miami..smdh

Oh..and i really hope we have a position that fits for randolph

i dont really want amare at the 5 position..it looks that way right now with no earl barron sighting.. and wtf is he labeled as a forward for? i thought he played center in GS.. smh we over here saying he should start but the guy has never started over 26 games in a season.

out of all the so called offers we have had for lee.. i think we could have done something better. i like the potential of randolph…but thats about it.
