Good read, I know Knicks fans wanted a team that could win now, but we waited this long, whats another 2-3 years to let some young guys blossom and become our team, not the team we bought through free agency. We will only have Amar’e and maybe Melo as our bought quota, and the rest would be smart deals and and draft picks, we wouldnt be Buy-ami, lets let this run out.

I will tell you this, if D’antoni is the coach people think he can be this could be one of the more fun teams to watch in the league, i for one am actually excited for a knicks game, and with how the NBA gives lil diva fouls all over the place these days its been awhile for me, we need the street ball days of the early 90’s back when only Jordan got the phantom foul, well the obvious phantom fouls

i like dwyer's point about d'antoni and randolph

coach has an opportunity to sculpt a masterpiece with that one.

Great read and I second that...good way to see what kinda coach we really have

Now that it all counts. I really think we just built a solid young core. I don’t mind waiting a year if it’s the right direction, and if we gel by midseason, I do think we’re playoff worthy if at least pounding on the door. We can be either really grreat or really bad, I don’t think there’s gonna be a middle ground

by screamedia on Jul 9, 2010 10:39 AM EDT up reply actions

way i look at is this, with what we can add this year unless we make a surprising trade, which if we get pritchard before the start of the season could happen, we are pretty set on the core of our team where we stand now.

So I look at it like this, we will start off with some flair, teams wont know how our players react to one another making us a tough matchup for being so quick.

Teams will figure us out and having a young core we will go through a tough stretch where we stay close but without a finishing shooter we lose in the end.

Gallo starts to take off round the 40-50 game mark and we hit a run that gets us to the 34-40 win mark. That is my reaLISTIC ASSUMPTION WITH OUR ROSTER WITH MAYBE RIDNOUR AND SOEMONE ELSE ADDED.

sorry for caps but dont want to re write that lol

If we play a lil better then that we cud make 6-8 seed in east, if we play worse it wont be too much worse and we finish bout same as last year prob a lil better

Absolutely

The way D’Antoni handles this will give me a whole lotta insight as to what kind of coach he is. Sure he can win with talent and suck with no talent, but when his talent hangs in the balances, how will he handle it? Cuz Randolph is essentially a D’Antoni prototype.

"But when he saw it, he just put his hands up and they couldn’t give it to him. It just fell to the ground, I-I don’t, you know … So, that showed me he had great experience..." - Jeff Van Gundy

Yes

this will absolutely show us what Pringles is made of. He knows what it takes to be successful in NY, he said so in the Stats press conf. So ideally he steps up to the plate and gives it his all.

I wouldnt say he sucks with no talent..because we had no talent, plus a non cohesive unit. The players assembled were strictly for cap reasons, aside from the few TD Gallo and chandler. We moved Lee out. That leaves chandler who i believe with gallo and randolph in the fold.. is the next guy to be shipped out. Hopefully its involved in a trade for a great player.

Toney does what the douglas do. And no one can do what he does b/c doing it without being Toney Douglas just doesnt make it do what it do

Indeedy.

Look what he did with Amar’e, Marion, even David Lee.

by frilly on Jul 9, 2010 11:33 AM EDT up reply actions

IThe only thing that worries me

What position does anthony randolph play? If its pf do we move amare over to 5 once randolph starts to flourish in this system? Or is he a 3, because we all want gallo to be our night in shining mozzarella. I’m pretty sure we’re moving chandler some time during this season, but I want randolph to start…and what about our other steal, billy walker?

Im not used to having this much right potential..I’m freaking out!

In '99, when we went to he finals with Ewing and Camby (who Randolph reminds me of)

did Camby ever play the 5 with Ewing at “power forward”? Or did it really matter with Ewing, Camby and LJ on the floor at the same time?

I needed a team so I wouldn’t turn into one of the eighty million pink hat-wearing Bud Light-drinking mulleted idiots at Fenway.

he reminds me of cambys D

but offesively is miles ahead of what camby is.. actually.. the guy plays like a slashing sf on offense

The 1st 2 paragraphs had me thinking "WTF???"

But yea, good read. This is one of the first trades I actually see working out for both teams, and both fanbases being happy about it.

I still think we ought to overpay a bit and get Raymond Felton

at this point we need all the good players we can get. I think Felton is a better player, overall, than Ridnour. With Curry’s $ coming off the books next year, we’d still have enough to make a run at Carmelo (provided he doesn’t sign that extension with Denver.)

I think its pretty much a given Randolph will get heavy burn from day 1, and we should be extremely excited about that, although our defense will suffer if we have to move Stoudemire to C (which would probably have happened anyway). Still, we’ll have a quality young team but we desperately need a PG who can run the pick and roll with Amare, Douglas is not that guy. Minnesota seems open to trading Flynn, maybe NO would be interested in Chandler for Collison, but no matter what PG has to be the top priority for Walsh. A big C would be nice but a PG is necessary to get the most out of Stat. We have the shooters to make an Amare pick and roll devastating if we can only get a damn PG.

i wouldnt be so quick

to jump ship from DWTDD. He only started towards the end of last year. And this will be his first full summer training. He is one of the hardest working guys on the roster and from the improvements he made in the short playing time he had last year… I’d expect a jump in production this year too. Especially in his decision making and passing skills.

agreed

let TD DWTDD.

Bye, Lee :(

Douglas showed no sign of being effective in the pick and roll last year. He would have been an absolutely perfect compliment to LeBron in the backcourt in my opinion, but I really don’t think we can put him out there in the starting line up and think we’ll be effective offensively with him running the show.

by SgtOrange on Jul 9, 2010 5:26 PM EDT up reply actions

lovin it

Loving the way the roster is coming together – I can’t see DW going the Felton route, it would tie up too much cash for too many years, Ridnour sure seems like the answer in terms of years and money – gotta figure 2 yrs 8-10 mill or thereabouts – given the strikeout on Lebron the focus is now on securing a top flight PG thru trade/FA – while the chatter would have us dreaming of Melo, I find it hard to believe and think that Parker/CP3/Deron is more likely – Rome wasn’t built in a day – unless you live in Me-a-me

by jfle43 on Jul 9, 2010 2:40 PM EDT reply actions

Call me crazy.

But of those three PGs I would prefer Deron. CP3 is short on ligaments in his knee and Parker isn’t getting any younger and doesn’t have a J. Deron is a tough SOB and I think NYC would love his game. Could you imagine him running the P&R w/ Amar’e?

Sort of funny story: I was running on the treadmill at the NYSC and watching the game where Deron absolutely destroyed TD. His performance was so mesmerizing I forgot I was running on the treadmill and twisted my ankle. So there it is… Deron Williams: so good he breaks fans’ ankles.

I will call you crazy

Anybody who prefers Deron to Paul is nuts. I love Williams but its not much of a comparison in my opinion.

by SgtOrange on Jul 9, 2010 3:22 PM EDT up reply actions

kinda naive to think Chris Paul is that much better than Deron Williams

I would give CP3 the edge, but seriously…Deron Williams is fucking terrific.

Paul has been putting up historical type of numbers. I’d love to have either, obviously, but Paul is no doubt a better player.

by SgtOrange on Jul 9, 2010 5:11 PM EDT up reply actions

Agreed, Paul is better.

But with the kind of structural issues he has with his knee and when you see how Deron is built, I think I’d rather gamble on Deron long term.

by keithprime on Jul 9, 2010 7:11 PM EDT up reply actions

its closer then you think man..

i agree, CP3 is better..but Deron Williams WAS the best PG in the NBA last year. Yea, CP3 was injured..but shit..Deron is 2nd best in the NBA basically, so it snot that big

Bye, Lee :(

by FreeBradshaw on Jul 9, 2010 3:57 PM EDT up reply actions

Deron is nasty

And I’d like to see them match-up after Deron’s last season. If he came cheaper I’d take the Utah man.

I dunno

Deron might be just slightly less talented than Paul, but he’s way more solid physically. If I’m picking a guy for one game, it’s Paul. For 6 years, its Deron.

deron williams is more likely??

i find that hard to believe, better yet hard to read

I don't think any of those top PG's are really all that likely

the main trade chip was Lee.

Well, Tony Parker is a FA next tho, so actually if he and Melo are FA’s, they could very well ham it up in NYC.

That is, unless TD proves that DWTDD is better then Tony Parker.

Only room for one Tony here.

Bye, Lee :(
