Times when I was completely and utterly wrong
I got this Idea from Seth (if you were planning on doing something with this I'm sorry, don't mean to be stepping on your toes but I really like the idea). We all have opinions and like to state them to the blogging public. I know that I personally defend my ideas to the bitter end and even when others of you make valid points I tend to fight even harder and only think I am more right. I have been right on a few occasions, but this post is not about that, and please refrain from making this about when you were right, as a matter of fact, for every one time that someone wants to respond "ha, I saw that coming" you need to put down TWO times that you were wrong. There. That aught to knock you down a peg. I'll add more of my wrong calls in the comments as they come, but here are just a few.
-I thought Gallo would suck (I think many will have this one too)
-I thought Nate would develop into a star
-I drank the Zach Randolph kool-aid
-I thought both Francis and Marbury would be studs for us
-(not Knicks related but still) I though Beasley was leaps and bounds better than D-Rose
-I thought we should've taken Stephenson over Fields and Rautnis (still could turn out to be right, but as of now I wouldn't draft him over either)
I leave you with this: http://xkcd.com/386/

Off the top of my head...
I hated the Gallo pick, loved the Marbury deal, and loved the Randolph deal. I also thought Mike Sweetney would amount to something, but I still won’t acknowledge any error in that notion.
Mike Sweetney amounted to everything
Your fine, no face saving needed.
New minorleague site coming soon, with contributions from those who were not seen fit for this site
Mike Sweetney just so happened to be in my next post.
He make me sick.

I thought...
- Jamal Crawford would become an All-Star under MDA
- Darko Milicic would blossom last season and finally shred the “bust” label and then become our starting center for a few years
- Jordan Hill was a good pick
- The David Lee trade was garbage at first
+1 on darko
maaad nicc** gave me flak on that call.. Back when throwin the penalty flag was in… i woulda subject to alot of those
"they try to do what he do, and been where he's been, but they get folded in two.....he's the dude"
+1 with Jordan Hill
My friend was flipping out when we didn’t take Jennings and I kept telling him “Hill was a smart pick, you’ll see.” I guess I did.
i still dont think the jury is out on this one
I am a fan of both the mets and knicks... so just kill me now.
Good Point
I guess it really has only been one year. I COULD STILL BE RIGHT!!!
case in point
Rookie of the Year voting – 1996/97
1 Allen Iverson
2 Stephon Marbury
3 Shareef Abdur-Rahim
4 Antoine Walker
5 Kerry Kittles
1996 NBA Draft
1 Iverson, Allen
2 Camby, Marcus
5 Allen, Ray
13 Bryant, Kobe
14 Stojaković, Peja
15 Nash, Steve
Sometimes it takes a few years to really even out.
I am a fan of both the mets and knicks... so just kill me now.
sighhhhh... where do I start?
I thought John Starks just needed to keep shooting during game 7 of the ’94 finals. I kept thinking the next one would go down.
I thought Sprewell would be a distraction and a problem (he turned out to be one of my favorite Knicks).
I though John Wallace would develop into a star.
I thought Antonio McDyess would be an all star player for us.
I thought Dikembe Mutombo would become an intimidating presence in the middle, and become a fan favorite.
I liked the Isiah Thomas hiring. We had Scott Layden at the time, and I thought anyone with a pulse would be better. Guess not.
I celebrated when we landed Stephon Marbury. I insisted on telling everyone in my vicinity that the Knicks were back. If only I could go back in time and warn myself.
I was mad about the draft picks, but I thought Eddy Curry was going to be a beast. Well, he was, but not the way we hoped.
I thought Channing Frye would develop into a starter at least.
I thought Nate would grow a brain and become an unstoppable point guard.
I thought Zach Randoph would suck in Pringles’ system. He ended up overachieving in it.
I thought Wilson Chandler was going to suck. People forget that he was the 21st pick. We got a lot of value for him.
I thought Patrick Ewing Jr. was going to make the roster after that viscious dunk he threw down in preseason. “Master Blaster” said Clyde.
There were about 72 times when I was sure that Isiah Thomas would be fired the next morning, and he never was.
I thought Gallo was really good, but I bought into the back injury propaganda, and labeled him a bust. (Screw you Berman. You made me doubt the Cock).
I was scared of Donnie Walsh initially because he mentored front office legends such as Isiah Thomas and Larry Bird. I was still glad to have him though because he wasn’t Isiah.
I thought Lebron was going to stay in Cleveland. I never thought he was coming to New York.
I thought Darko was going to finally develop in Pringles’ run and gun offense, since he’s not a banger.
Ohhh… I have so many more…
They will be for!

I like this.
I hated the Gallo pick (although I quite honestly still don’t love it)
Also loved Marbury, was intrigued when we picked up Franchise.
I also thought that Beasley would be leaps and bounds better then Rose, and I also would have liked Born Ready over Fields or Rautins.

I ran around NSU dorms hype
when we signed Steve Francis.
"they try to do what he do, and been where he's been, but they get folded in two.....he's the dude"
Is it giving anyone else the heebie jeebies
that most of us were geeked like crazy (myself included) about the Randolph, Francis, and Marbury deals? And that we’re getting geeked again?
I realize it’s not the same situation at all with where the franchise stands, but…

Also, that Gallo pick sucked cock at the time.

Probably
but the big difference is all these guys are basically replaceable. And moves like McDyess and Francis..those 2 were injury prone and washed up, Marbury was bat shit crazy too.
Amare is our big move, and people only want to think he’s injury prone, and he’s not even close to that.
The others are all on rook contracts, so its no biggie.

ugh McDyess shutters ugh
is it me or does every Knick leave and go on to success?
McDyess was decent aferwards
Randolph was All Star status in Memphis
Ariza was here too right?
Frye was good last year
hmmm havent thought about that in a while
if Jordan Hill blows up then my theory is in full swing
McDyess was injured when the Knicks traded for him
and he played in 18 games. Re-Signing him would’ve been as dumb as re-hiring Isiah.
ZBo had to go too of course.
THe rest should;ve stayed.

Also
Nate became a pretty key player for Boston in the playoffs. Although, well knew he was capable of that.
And Jamal Crawford had a great year last year in ATL. Man, I wish we could’ve kept him. I loved Jamal and imagine if we could have him starting at the 2 now with Buike coming off the bench. That’d push us over the edge to a defnitie playoff team. I hope maybe we go after him next summer.
Gallo
loved the Cock pick though I did have some doubt……….who did you guys want? just curious
hated the Jordan Hill pick, wanted Jennings……..still do
like Randolph………and the new one
thought Marbury was gonna be a beast
wanted Stephenson too………glad we didnt what a dirtbag he is
yeah I liked both of those guys too
thank god we took the Cock……I actually loved the pick but was just weary of it because international guys you just never know
2 more
sorry forgot
really liked the Wilson Chandler pick and thought it could be a steal (kinda thinking Fields might be too)
also thought Nasty Nate would be a beast
lets see...
I thought the Knicks should have kept the roster from 93-95 forever, regardless of age… so when they picked up decent players, such as LJ and Sprewell or Allan Houston, I was always skeptical, but they did well. I was excited when Don Nelson became coach. I thought that the defensive nature of the Knicks, combined with the fast tempo of Nelson would create a basketball supernova in MSG… but yea, guess not. I thought the hiring of Lenny Wilkens would work out a lot better than it did. I really rooted for Eddy Curry to become the dominant player I always hoped he would be. When Marbury signed, I just thought it was all over, that he would be the homecoming savior. I guess I was going through a period where I wanted everybody originally from NY to come to the Knicks. Just like Larry Brown. I was like, “well, sure, he’s from NY, it should work” haha. I never liked the Knicks draft picks throughout the 2000s, even the ones that kinda worked out, whether for us or for somebody else. I kinda thought Sweetney would be somebody. I sorta thought Jordan Hill would work out, until I saw him in summer league, and realized it wasnt going to work, at least not for us. When they drafted Gallo, I was like, who? but then I saw the sweet stroke of the Cock in the highlights and it calmed me down, I figured he would work well. I never wanted Jennings on our team, just like I wouldnt want Jeremy Tyler on our team this next year. Sure he may become a beast, but, I dont want that level of immaturity running our team. Just like the reason I never wanted LeBron in the first place either.
"If it ain't broke, don't break it." -Charles Oakley
I kinda never wanted LBJ either
Like I wanted him to choose New York and laugh in the media’s face and I wanted NYK to become great immediately but I didnt really want Lebron.
I also really wanted Jarvis Varnado this draft but instead his talents got taken to South Beach….
Seriously?
I know Miami drafted him but hadn’t heard anything else. I would gladly take a guy who beats Shaq’s NCAA record for blocks TWICE
yep
http://www.ridiculousupside.com/2010/8/16/1625369/jarvis-varnado-miami-heat-draft
They retain his rights though, unfortunately.
Related to last season's roster...
I thought Duhon would turn into a good signing (for more than 1/2 of a season).
I thought Jordan Hill would flourish in our system as a rookie.
I thought Darko would be quite serviceable (one team too early on that thought).
I thought after Danilo’s rook season and injury, he would be a bust last year.
I thought David Lee would remain a Knick (but can’t argue with the upgrade).
I really like this post, rec'd
and although I’m a little late, here are some of mine for those that care (and in no particular order):
I actually remember thinking “wow – we drafted John Wallace, Walter McCarty, and Donte’ Jones! Three guys that were just in the Final Four! This could turn out to be really great!”
I thought Frederic Weis would surprise alot of people and redeem himself for the whole “getting dunked OVER by Vince Carter” thing.
I was ecstatic when we hired Larry Brown. Nothing really to add to that. It’s Larry Brown.
I actually used the phrase “that’s a squad!!” when referring to a team consisting of Curry and Z-Bo in the frontcourt with Crawford and Marbury in the backcourt. sigh.
I thought Larry Johnson was finished when we got him based solely on the fact that he was doing “grandmama” commercials the previous year and then suddenly stopped dunking when he came to NY. He adapted well enough with the back issues to earn my respect and make some great memories.
I thought Antonio McDyess would have his number retired as a Knick. Well, not really lol. I thought he would actually play enough minutes and score enough points to make the trade for Camby and Nene seem like a win-win for both teams.
I didn’t think twice when we got rid of Doug Christie, since he never took off his warm-up under Pat Riley – who could do no wrong in my opinion BACK THEN.
I was optimistic that T-Mac still had something in the tank and just needed a change of scenery and a teammate like Lebron. I should have asked his knee surgeon….and Pat Riley.
I thought Dolan would seriously wise up and know better than to attend the meeting with Lebron.
If you're a real Yankee fan, please do the rest of us a favor and splurge the extra cash on a replica jersey without a last name on the back. Frankly, it's embarassing.

Great post
Everyone’s comments are good-the real question: Which of our current beliefs in players, plans, mgt, coaches, etc. will prove to be utterly wrong?
Gallo
love him to death, love his fire, think hes hilarious, think he can be a borderline all star
but not a perennial star the way everyone thinks
just my opinion
have the guys jersey, so its not that i dont love him cause I do
