Russia V. Puerto Rico Recap
Results (including Mozgov info) after the jump!
Russia 75, Puerto Rico 66; link
Mozgov went 13 pts, 2 reb, 1 blk in 20 min of play. Recap mentioned he went wild on the P&R. If you watch the video highlights, shows Music-Man Mozgov with a nice dunk off a P&R.
Other notes:
1. Did you know Renaldo Balkman plays for Puerto Rico? FYI: 0 pts, 3 reb, 20 min played. Eerily similar to his former Knick days box score line.
2. Jose Juan Barea lit it up. I'd rather trade for him then Melo. Just saying.
3. I had no idea they were playing the world championships in Turkey this year until today.

"You're like that old, beat down restaurant with the dirty bathrooms, weird customers and foul odor, I'm like that new shiny restaurant across the street with the bright neon lights, fishes in the floor and 2nd floor gymnasium. Why don't I have any customers?!"
Very very true, there has to be a reason for that.

True but that may have been a facet of where he plays on the floor
the last time i saw Russia play, the Played alot of 1-3-1 Zone with their center up near the top of the Key, this causes problems in the passing angles and such, but leaves the center out of position for alot of defensive boards, especially if the opposing team shoots alot from the perimeter which would keep him from dropping down to get in position for boards. Also on offense from what i seen Mozgov is used primarily as a finisher out of the PNR, this would mean he loses out on offensive reb opportunities alot. Didn’t see the game so none of this may apply, but from what I know about the Russian team’s offensive and defensive strategies that could lead to a stat line like that.

I woulda been more excited off of
2pts 13 rebounds, 1 blk
but glad he made him impact overall.. but aye, no video link?
"they try to do what he do, and been where he's been, but they get folded in two.....he's the dude"

Was too lazy to figure out how to embed their video in here.
This is true to.
I did jump the gun on my excitement. He isn’t going to be a big scoring option on the Knicks, he only here for rebounds and blocks so yeah, screw the points.

If he's as polished as he looks at the pick and roll
He will put some points on the board. As long as he can finish strong at the rim against NBA bigs.
One thing about D'antoni
If this guy gets in the game, he’ll be there to score in the P&R.. that seems to be his forte.
eh...
overall I think him and Randolph are the 5 and 4 off the bench. AR gobbles up rebounds, so if Mozy isn’t the greatest rebounder its all good.
If he can make a dunk opp. for himself with every P&R he gets, that’s good too.

Watching US vs Brazil right now
Tiago Splitter looks like he’s really gonna be a force in the middle for the Spurs. Putting on a clinic for any US big man, that’s for sure.
Spurs finally did themselves right in keeping Splitter, I could only imagine how good they’d be if they kept Scola all these years.
CLINIC
I think this guy’s played the entire game, while the US interchanges Odom, Chandler, Love..etc. Can’t handle em.

he was the best player on the floor, no question about it.

mozzie
My take on Moz:
- quick in the paint and around the basket
- good intensity level
- decent hops and timing
- good wingspan in general, shotblocking
- good dunking and finishing in general
- runs floor decently
- slender upper body-needs to bulk up of course. On one play against PR, he got backed in by #4, but timed his block expertly with no foul
- not very fast
- no hook shot evident
- no outside shot evident
How he performs against NBA talent-time will tell; however, he is another player with good upside acquired this summer-
Props, Donnie.
Now its up to Mike to develop him and integrate him into the team.
