Around SBN: Newcastle Battle Injury Woes Ahead of Tottenham

Matt Moore's treatise on the '10-'11 Knicks is just splendid. I think the optimists among us have a lot more faith than Moore in New York's ability to compete for real this season, but Matt nails it with regards to this team's youthful majesty.

the only thing that really bothered me was
In Phoenix, he played with refinement at point guard, quickness/speed and barrage at shooting guard (Johnson/Bell/Barbosa), versatility at small forward, and some combination of perplexity and violence at power-forward and center (Stoudemire-Diaw/Marion/Thomas). In New York, he’s assembling something with a workhorse at point guard, purity and athleticism at the wings, violence at the power forward, and function at center. The question is if this is what he wants or if this is the base of the soup that he’s hoping will become something else. Hoping, for example, that Raymond Felton becomes a source of refinement at point guard? That’s not going to lead anywhere good for his liver. Hoping Randolph accepts a traditional role? Wasting his breath. Wishing Turiaf to be versatile? Reasonable but ultimately pointless. They are what they are.

I dont get why on earth he would think that Mike D of all people are going to try to force RAAAAANDY to be a traditional player. The questions he is asking seems made just to question Mike D.

I am a fan of both the mets and knicks... so just kill me now.

Saying "he is what he is, he's not going to change" about a 21 year-old

is just ridiculous. Nobody’s attitude and skills are fully formed at that age. In basketball and in life.

yea that part's full of shit

why would Pringles ask for Randolph to accept a traditional role anyway? Hasn’t he already said he’s gonna get creative with em?

In typical Knicks fan fashion

I agreed with his compliments to our team, and disagreed with the criticism. I think he severely underrates our D this year, though.

If Turiaf and Randolph can both average 2 blocks per game, and Will, Gallo and Amare can all average 1, that’s 7 blocks per game. Pretty solid to me. We now have some guys who can get stops at the top of the key (Douglas, Felton and Buike) and guys who can protect the paint a bit.

If we can hover around 17th to 13th in the league in defense, we’re in good shape.

exactly how i feel

i dont think well be anywhere near great, but we wont be at the bottom of the league in defense. we will be somehwere in the middle, hopefully in the top half

"Galinari was born into D’Antoni’s defenseless womb."

Eww.

I don’t like the fact that he conveniently left out Wil’s versatility when talking about team defense. Sure, he’s not a stopper by any means but he’s solid and can guard 2-5ish. And Gallo deserves more credit on defense, the cat gets up for guarding the other squad’s best player. If you don’t have a great defender, that’s what you ask for in a player.
