Douglas not getting his due?
While some get it that DWTDD means great things some may doubt. Douglas is not known for his ability to play above the rim. Nevertheless we have the final pre-season game from the Nets when TD made an incredible play around Lopez for the win. And there might even have been a single dunk at one point in October or Novemeber. But it was in his first game against Dallas at home the Mavericks riding a win streak and having won against the Knicks by 50 that Toney Douglas got his first start at PG. He had started two previous games with Duhon back in November. He starts against Jason Kidd who is still regarded as one of the best in the NBA.
from The recap
This would also be the largest turnaround for a team lead by a rookie point guard and in his first start at the position. It was a team effort though Lee had his double-double and Chandler and Walker turned up big. House and Duhon of all people played well off the bench. Harrington muscled his way inside and..
"New York controlled the action from the opening bell and had Dallas on the ropes early, leading by 10 at halftime. But the Mavericks weren't ready to throw in the towel. They have been the master of the comeback all season, posting a league-high 17 wins in games where they trailed by 10-plus points, plus a league-leading 18 wins when trailing at the break -- including six escapes during the winning streak.
Not this time. New York unleashed a third-quarter pummeling that would have prompted most referees to step in and stop the fight. The Knicks outscored the Mavs 33-18 in the third quarter, shooting 68 percent (13-for-19). Tracy McGrady scored all 11 of his points in the decisive period. Dallas shot just 8-for-22 in the quarter."
T. Douglas G 30:52 8-10 4-4 1-2 +22 0 2 2 8 2 1 0 1 0 21
8 of 10 from the field, 4-4 from 3 , 8 assists 21 points in ~31 minutes
With Felton and TD NY is improved over Duhon and Robinson perhaps and
just maybe Amare can hope to finish like David Lee ;-) and well it's gonna be interesting anyway
The center position has Turiaf and Mozgov a much beefier lineup than last year. And AR/Amare for spot minutes.
Prediction: 45 +/- 3

Toney Douglas and this year's team
Gets me excited that maybe a bench line-up of TD, Walker/ Mason Jr, Chandler (once Buike’s healthy), AR and maybe Mozgov can do like Phoenix’s bench last year and come in and build our leads up even bigger, with Toney playing a Goran Dragic type role.
written for several reasons and not that his teammates don't know him
First- I was ticked at JW44 on the ultimateknicks site who was constantly bashing his potential at PG.
2nd- When I dug into his starts the 5 game stretch he started began in Dallas and coincided with Donnie Walsh going on the road trip. I then discovered Knicks own an NBA record for the largest turnaround in NBA history that night and it was his first start at PG I figure he’s due notice as a record holder.
(kudo’s to Mike the Intern for the dog ;-)
This is the thread at UK forums
And isn’t that spelled Ed Olbannon?

oh yeah and the title was a nice play on words ;-)

TD will be a solid weapon off the bench in the Leandro Barbosa role
tho I think he’ll be a bit better as a backup PG.
Barbosa is a scorer strictly, at least in the NBA. TD can at least play the point (PnR) relatively well.
DWTDD
Toney Douglas
For the record
Jason Kidd is one of the worst face man to man defenders in the league.

for the record teams don't play man all the time and have help defenders
Dallas made the playoffs and Kidd is still regarded as one of the top 15 point guards in the league. Depending whose ranking top 10.

Oh, I'm not saying I don't like DWTDD
Far from it. I’m just trying to contextualize this. Kidd allowed his man to score 20 points a game and dish out 8 assists per 48 games last year, which isn’t great. That being said, Douglas also had to contain Kidd, which is impressive in its own right.

I'd also add that everyone has off-nights, and outplaying Jason Kidd once, means very little.
Not to take any shine away from Toney, but one game does not a career make.
That said, I DO think Douglas is going to be a very solid player for the Knicks.
