Knicks of recently
I been a Knicks fan for 20 years(since I was 10) and remember them beautiful days where we were the beast of the east with Ewing, Oakley etc. Man, did they have heart and were warriors. Can't forget John Starks, Derek Harper, Charles Smith, Mason and the rest. Then came Allan Houston, Larry Johnson and later Sprewell. Those were the days and they are long gone. It's been 10 years now and the worse years of my life. I personally believe all these losing seasons could have been avoided but that's history. Now we have this team and have had ups and down. We got really happy after we went on that winning streak and things were looking great but now we back to the beginning and how it's been the last few years. Inconsistent, players looking lost and not moving around. I am a fan of MDA style of play where there is a lot of offense and scoring but it is obvious there are also problems too. I am not a coach or anything but I can observe things which many others can too I am sure and I like to know what MDA thinks.
We have solid players on paper but it's different on the court. We have a superstar and few good players and that's about it. We use a small rotation and I think this is a problem. There are times where only 7 players are used and at times only a few minutes too. It is way too much to play Stat, Felton etc 40+ minutes a game. What would MDA do if god forbid an injury happened to one of our best player? I find it crazy how the only way we can win is by playing our best players so many minutes and that too against sorry teams. Part of the reason is that we have no bench and then there are many players playing through injuries which isn't good at all obviously. Here are some of the problems we have and that must be changed in order to win. We wouldn't be having this conversation if things were like they were last month but that's over now. Some obvious things to take in consideration are:
Stat is not a center and at least not every day. He is a power forward and best at that.
Chandler is not really a power forward. He can play multiple positions but is not a real power forward for everyday.
Turiaf is solid but not enough and gets injured too much. He be good at being either starting center if we had a decent backup or he would be a very good back up if we had a starting center like Marcus Camby or Tyson Chandler.
Gallo is naturally a small forward just like Chandler but not consistent. At times he catches fire and at other times he disappears from the game.
The above are only some of the problems and they are very crucial because it's impossible to win much with such line up and especially when a bunch of players are having a slump at same time. There isn't even a question if Melo is better than Chandler or Gallo and I say he better than both put together and I have no doubt about it. There seems to be a common claim that Melo plays no defense and I disagree with that. Sure, he isn't a lock down defender but who is on the current Knicks team? Melo averages about a steal a game right now in this bad season with all the drama going on. He also averages over 8 rebounds a game right now as a small forward for the Nuggets and that is more than Gallo or Chandler. We can lay that bogus claim to rest and we should also remind those who are not aware that nobody and I mean nobody can defend Melo or shut him down. The man is an offensive machine and I don't mean just against sorry teams and weak defenders but he can drop 40 on anyone and even more. He can take over games, create his own shots, get to the rim etc.
It would be a huge loss and heartbreaking if he went elsewhere. We obviously need this superstar along side Amare if we are gonna win. But he isn't the only thing we need to win it all. We need a solid bench and a big. I believe guys like Will and Gallo are easy to replace but not always a Carmelo Anthony. I am becoming really angry with MDA and wondering if he is sane or what. I mean I'm not there so don't know what he says or what goes on but he has got to know that it don't work that way. He can't honestly believe that he can win with such squad and with such philosophy where small people play center. It don't always work and especially not over an entire season. We would have to use a solid 4 man bench unless we had someone like JR Smith of the Nuggets where we could use only 3 men when he can easily score 30. Or someone like Jamal Crawford off the bench. It all depends on how the coach uses them but MDA I hope realizes this and stops being stubborn as it appears that way to me. I know AR, Mozgov etc aren't good or ready. I also know that he can't still believe that we don't need anything and i know Stat never said the comment written by Isiola the liar but even if it were true, i know he couldn't really mean that nor resist a Melo alongside himself.
I try to stay positive and I get so hyped when Knicks win and MSG fired up but it won't get better if things don't change. I hope Felton only having a temporary struggle and will be the pg he was earlier. If not, and hope not, at least we only signed him for two years and not stupid to where we blew our money out of desperation because then we would have to go after CP3 or some other all star pg. We can't just be satisfied with winning a few games because we have lost for 10 years. MDA gonna have to think about that and realize that a center is necessary and I don't mean them heavy and slow ones but someone that can block, rebound and allow Amare play his position and Turiaf be a back up center/pf. Below are some of the things I would add on my team if it were up to me:
Camby or someone of that type.
Carmelo Anthony.
a scored who can come off the bench and do what JR Smith does.
We gotta have either an 8 man rotation with someone who can consistently score off the bench or use 9 players with Turiaf TD etc but would need a big first for the rest to work.

TRUE n TRUE
Totally agree with your post. we need to get CARmelo – pERiod. How often we are presented this kind of opportunity – we must take advantage of this situation, Firstly, Melo wants to come and play for NYK unlike others. 2ndly, he is better than any of our 3s, 3rdly, just imagine building team around Stat and Melo – now we are talking NYK basketball competing for the years to come.
Right now, we are good but not good enough. We will always be inconsistent – winning streak here and there then back to reality – lose games even to the most inferior teams in the league.
MDA needs to be flexible and work on longer rotation to for his system to work properly and run other teams to the ground. What is happening is we are the one running out of gas and being injured. THINK THINK THINK
i want melo but i read a piece on yahoo
it said that monte ellis is available and to be honest i think ellis is a better scorer than anthony and might not cost as much

It says they are looking to trade him for a "superstar"
We don’t have any of those to spare.
Made glorious summer by this son of [New] York.

Exactly. Look at the Spurs how they have Duncan, Parker, Ginobli, Jefferson and then got others like Neal, Blair, Mcdyes, Hill, etc, Celtics got the big 4 plus Shaq, Nate, etc. Every team has great players plus solid supporters. Knicks have Stat and Felton but nothing else. Melo and Stat together along with a good supporting cast would be a championship squad for a long time. MDA will destroy his own players if he continues with this. It’s a no brainer that Melo is what we need and he better than Gallo, Chandler and the rest. As you said, imagine building around them two superstars and I bet the elites would fear us and that is why nobody wants the Knicks to get him because they know it be on. Otherwise, it will be few good games and a bunch of bad games. We need consistent scorers and not part time only against sorry teams scorers. Ppl talk about how scoring is not teh problem for the Knicks and that is a joke because they can’t even score a 100 points against the elites and sometimes not even against sorry teams. Even if they do score 100+ they still lose many times because they don’t have a Melo who will score 30 and win. It does no good to have a Shawne Williams score 25 and we still lose but with Melo it be the opposite. You saw how Amare had to take 21 shots against the Rockets to score 25 points with hard defense and nobody else helping him but imagine Melo on this team who can score in his sleep, get to teh basket etc. It is a must or we’ll never be consistent nor beat the best in the league.
I am not even sure if Gallo, and Chandler are even all that because they just stand around at times and look lost and that is true especially for Gallo who will never be more than a okay role player who can have a good game on occasions or make an important 3 pointer from time to time.
Be careful what you say about the Gallo.
The GPS will get on you for it.
Dear God, Im a Knicks Fan, Just wanted to say Thanks for Amare, but can you send him some help?
Great Post, Great Read, Get Melo!!!!
Agree with plenty of what you wrote. All in all we need to extended this rotation to included at least Mozzy, if not just to get him some experience and PT, but to also give Amare a break at center when Turiaf is injured. I feel the main reason why we are having such a tough time recently is THESE GUYS ARE BEAT. They are all playing more minutes than they ever had before and you can see the effects on Ray, his jumpers and floaters are falling short and his drives to the hole are coming up shorter and shorter each time.
