Knicks hire Warkentien
The deal isn't finalized yet, but the Knicks are about to sign former Denver GM, Mark Warkentien, as a consultant. He was named executive of the year in 2009 and was let go after Denver owner Stan Kroenke decided to promote his son, Josh Kroenke.
Now why am I excited after hearing this news? Warkentien (can somebody please think of a nickname, this is an extremely hard name to memorize) has a great relationship with Carmelo and he could prove to be instrumental in bringing him here. He also has good knowledge of the Nuggets' organization and might help us when negotiating with Denver. Also, the fact that he was a great GM can make this move a prequel to hiring him as a full-time GM once Donnie steps down, something which I am extremely excited about, given the fact that names such as Allan Houston or Chris Mullin are said to be favorites for the job. He'll form a great pair with Donnie.

I don't think shit has to do with shit
Donnie I’m pretty sure liked bringing this dude on before any Carmelo rumors came about.
If anything it could hinder us from getting a trade done, I doubt this makes the Nuggets brass more willing to do a deal with us.
Dude’s a good GM who got the raw end of a deal that had the boss’ son take over. He put together a pretty good team in Denver, a team that was shit for a pretty long time.
I thinks he’s cut from the same cloth as Donnie too. Much better having him as a consultant than IT.

this is the main reason I applaud this(if it goes down)

"they try to do what he do, and been where he's been, but they get folded in two.....he's the dude"
Yeah I think I'd almost rather have him as a consultant than a bona fide FO position.
That’d free him from having to worry about tampering charges as he works the back channels with stars and their agents MUCH more effectively than Isiah could ever have navigated them.
It’s so weird that whenever there’s big news about the team, it’s usually a positive now.We just gotta keep Landry out of the backseats of those trucks in strip club parking lots.
Chandler & Iguadalo are playing better than Anthony @ this point.
Iguadalo might be a cheaper option than Anthony & not as VOLUME
a shooter as Anthony. Anthony is starting to remind me of Jamal
Crawford with his volume of shot attempts to get his scoring totals
up.
Igualdalo had an excellent gm last nite vs Anthony.
Chandler has had excellent gms against Anthony this season.
Iguadalo would seem 2 be a good 6th man 4 this Knick team.
Not a good free thr shooter, he is however excellent defensively.
I definitely like how Chandler and Iguodala are playing
but it’s not “better” than Melo.
Also, keep in mind that Denver is like 29-18. And they have been dealing with injuries to almost every position. Melo might be shooting a high volume right now, but don’t be fooled that he is just a straight gunner. On this Knicks team where we have a high volume guy in Stoudemire, a shooting PG in Felton and good shooters around, Melo would not have to shoot as many shots as he does currently and his efficiency would very likely rise significantly.

Another thing is I know Wilson doesn't get automatically doubled and I don't think Iggy does, either.
Player performances change when the league notices you and starts including you in their defensive game plans. I love Wil, but I don’t know if he’d be nearly the same player he is now if he had to contend with double teams every time he got the ball.
Agreed. He isn't the #1 option on this team
That makes a huge difference.

I think that's why Gallo struggled early on
Teams started to take notice and make sure they didn’t leave him open. Now they’re more worried about Amare and Felton and Chandler a little bit, Gallo has adjusted and gotten back on track

Why does every post turn into a Melo sucks argument?
We hired a pretty damn good GM to be our consultant and, as GAx said, work the backchannels to lure in some good players. It’s an awesome move, regardless of whether or not we get Melo.
I firmly believe that any man's finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle - victorious.

This has nothing to do with the post.

Top 10 in scoring, top 20 in rebounds; that's Melo... during an off year
The “volume shooter” argument is weak. Melo’s game is drawing fouls and going to the line so his missed attempts are offset by a larger number of free throws
Melo is currently 6th in the league in attempts and 9th in scoring… during an off year. And of the 8 players ahead of Melo in points, only 1 is averaging fewer turnovers than Melo. All the others are averaging 2.9 turnovers/gm or greater (Melo’s ave is 2.8)
Where are those number out of line again?
Good luck with that Chandler & Iguadalo argument.

Call him Big Bertha
Before the start of the 2009/10 season when the Nuggets still had a big dollar trade exception, and the Nuggets did nothing except cut cost, Wark was puffing out his chest trying talk big saying
"If we get stuck, Big Bertha’s coming out. Big Bertha’s still in the bag. We’ve swung that stick before. Institutionally, we’re not afraid to make a move. We’ll pull the trigger."
Oh btw, the Nuggets did absolutely nothing but whine about not having resources to make a deal. So Warky must’ve just played with his Big Bertha alone in his office.
Oh yeah, you guys will get tired of Wark’s pompous act… real fast. For being one of the architects of the JailBlazers he has a overly full opinion of himself,

The Jail Blazers were also an incredible team
and your anecdote really hints at a GM who’s held back by a thrifty owner (who by the way would love for an excuse to give his son a cushy front office job), not a GM who doesn’t know what he’s doing
