Dunk contest participants announced!
More than just something that's on after Landry wins MVP at the Rookie Challenge, the NBA has invited to its 2011 dunk contest Blake Griffin, Serge Ibaka, JaVale McGee (!!!), and all-purpose prop and oop-thrower Brandon Jennings (but really, he'll be dunking as well).
I love the dunk contest. If you truly love basketball, you do too. For the first time in years the contest should be about something other than empty personal branding (Griffin's buttoned-down enough to resist the temptation) so expect a noticeable improvement from last year's atrocity, which was so bad that all of the candidates were visibly yearning to not endure the shame of winning. The best post-Carter dunker of the 2000s turned down a chance to dunk this time around, but he's done enough already.

Seeing Nate get in this thing was a highlight of the season. I’m so glad that I don’t need that sort of highlight anymore.

The first nate championship and superman vs kryptonate was pretty fun. I’m just really disappointed lebron won’t participate, as much as I dislike him, he can fly…apparently he’s during citing fear of injury for not participating again (even though blake is coming off of knee surgery, lebron has no history of injury and is the second option on his team)

Superman vs. Kryptonate was the low point of the dunk contest
just awful. I feel bad for JR Smith, Iguodala, and Gerald Green, all of whom were far better dunkers but unfortunately were poor marketing devices.
Griffin vs. McGee has potential to be incredible, though. McGee can probably dunk from a step outside the foul line if he wants to.
