Could the end be near?
I am talking about the lockout of course!
Before I state my thoughts, check out the optimism oozing from Berger and Sheridan.

And a tweet from Berger:
KBergCBS Ken Berger
People understand what's happening, right? The table is set for a deal to be agreed to by Sunday. If either side messes it up, inexcusable.
----
So basically what seem like doom and gloom from the press conferences after yesterday's meetings, is actually hope and according to those two (and I think we'll see other writers jump on the optimism bandwagon). I was always optimistic during this lockout but after hearing their press releases I really stopped believing in a full season (and once we start losing games it gets harder to make a deal) but in a few hours Berger and Sheridan released their articles and my optimism was back! Now I don't want to get everybody's hopes up in case this doesn't work out in time, but I'm saying the sides have already narrowed the gap by so much that I can't see them not making a deal.
My guess, Thursday Stern and Hunter talk and agree to meet Sunday. Then on Sunday or Monday a deal is agreed upon giving the players 51 and the owners 49 of the BRI, no hard cap, amnesty clause, shorter contracts and and a smaller MLE. C'mon we all know that Stern will repent his sins on Yom Kippur and lead to jolly make up with the players.

I just wanna watch basketball
i really hope this all ends soon.
I think it was Bobby V who said: "You are never as good as you are when you are at your best, and you are not as bad as when you are at your worst."
Like the really funny uncle with a healthy bourbon habit who matches every brilliant Thanksgiving story with one or two ill-advised racist jokes or boob grabs, we’re stuck with Melo. So we might as well learn to love him — quirks and all. http://knickerblogger.net/2011-report-card-carmelo-anthony/
late start this year.
i just hope that the nba 2k12 game does not allow you to play the first few weeks of the “season” or until the lockout is officially over.

That would be hilarious
Lockout mode: all you can do is practice.
that would be problematc
probably would become the first basketball player to be injured by a chair

That Berger guy is probably just pulling all our legs in an attempt to rack up brownie point with readers.
Also;
C’mon we all know that Stern will repent his sins on Yom Kippur and lead to jolly make up with the players.
Lol’d
Stainer of mountaintops.
Sheridan has been the only NBA journalist that I have read in the past few months
Most of the media has been caught up in the negotiating ploys by both sides, and regarding these ploys as fact. Sheridan, on the other hand, has formulated his own opinions, and barely cared at all about the bullshit that both sides have been spewing to the media. I’ve gained a lot of respect for Mr. Sheridan in the past few months, no doubt.
Agreed
I really dig his new site and the general optimism he has about the whole situation. I do think sometimes he searches too hard for the positives and ignores the fact that the people negotiating are not really reasonable people, but overall he’s so much better to read than Woj or somebody.

To be honest, the fact that I'm an eternal optimist really helps his case
He’s just done a really good job of voicing my opinions, or letting me hear what I want to hear.
rly? I see the fact that owners offered 50/50 publicly and demanding it to be agreed to meet was just there way of trying to play hardball.
Pretty much Stern threatening, take this BRI split now or I’m cutting the first 2 weeks of the season. He’s trying to scare them, I wouldn’t be surprised to see them smarten up and at least meet to talk before Monday is over. Are they really gna lose the money of 2 or more weeks of a season for 1-2 percentage points (the union has shown willingness to go to 52, the owners offered 50…). the only reason this doesn’t get done is because of egos, the deal is on the table, they did the hard part already, now they just have to each give up 1 percentage point and just agree to 51-49 and end this already.
The players have to give here
This was always going to come to a 50-50 split and even then Stern was barely able to convince the more hardline owners to accept that. A good number of them don’t want to go higher than 48.5.
Yeah, the owners demanding the players accept the 50-50 before more meetings is a dick move and could be a major block in the negotiations, but the players have to realize it is probably the best deal they can get.
Several agents and big name players have made stirring pronouncements about not dropping lower than 53%, but they fail to see how weak their leverage is compared to the owners’.
Losing less than two months of games will cost the players more money than what they are holding out for right now.
The players already went from 57% to 53%. Compare the %'s of other athletes in the 4 major sports in America. 50%? So the players needs to give even more while the owners have only conceded....what?
What exactly have the owners conceded and compromised on that was in the previous CBA? Man I think I might make my first ever post about this because this is turning into some bullshit.
This is making me so angry can you tell? Flames. FLAMES out the side of my face.
Fish Fingers give me a break.

why do the owners deserve 50-50? The owners set up this market for them where they've made their value extremely high
Now you want them to drop 7% (which is huge because it’s billions of dollars)?
Even if u believe the NBA’s claims that they lost over $300 million annually, making the split 52-48 makes up for that and more. Why should the players keep making concessions?
The owners don't deserve 50/50
Its just they have all the leverage and players probably won’t get a deal better than 50/50.
The players have to make concessions otherwise they will lose part of the season and just wind up with either the same or a worse deal than what is offered now.
When you use logic that makes perfect sense.
Except the players are willing to lose games to get 53 ( which they won’t get ), and the owners are even more willing to lose games to get 50 or even lower. I wouldn’t surprised if its December and the players finally give in to 50 after losing more than a few millions, only to have the owners say nuts to you, the new number is 49 or 48.5.
Right now ego is as large a problem as money is.
