Amnestied Players Don't Become Unrestricted Free Agents!

Like many of you, I've licking my chops as I peruse the lists of candidates most likely to be amnestied. But apparently, we may not have a shot at them after all.

Read this.

Update: Tom Ziller gives an illustration of how it might work.

So... this sucks. I know the deal hasn't been ratified yet, but it doesn't seem like this is really a point of contention. I can't see the players arguing this very much because it doesn't really mess with them.

Update:

According to Alan Hahn...

The Knicks will only be about 1 million dollars over the cap.

This means that they could easily buy out a cheap player (likely Balkman) and become eligible to bid on the amnestied players.

The only catch is they have to buy out Balkman, not amnesty him. Shouldn’t be hard.

Helloooo cheap but productive Big Man.

Now what?
